Preston 2nd team, BVP third team, McDay All-freshman team.

Only thing I can quibble with is they put Tahjai Teague on the first team over Preston. Maybe they wanted at least one forward because the rest of the first team is LCJ, Turner, Graves, and German.

I remember Bassett wearing a big bandage on his shoulder (signifying a chip) up in Cleveland after being snubbed for ALL-MAC. He pretty much dominated all the way to Providence.

Graves is good, but I thought Preston played better down the stretch.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I maintain that voters favor upper classmen every year in the voting. If it is close, they go with the guy on his way out and figure the other guy will get it next year. Preston should be 1st team, without a doubt. He was:

1st in Minutes
1st in Assists
1st in A/TO ratio
4th in FG pct
5th in 3 pt pct (didn't realize that did you?)
7th in scoring
8th in steals
13th in rebounds (1st among guards)
18th in FT pct

If you run the numbers for conference games only, most these rankings actually improve. Had he scored 1-2 more point per season, they would've voted for him...as history has proven their ballot starts with the scoring leaders. He is essentially being punished for choosing to dish it to get a better shot for the team rather than chuck up more shots to get more points.

He is the most relied upon player in the MAC, and the most complete player in the MAC. Whatever.

Imagine being punished by being a true complete PG. What a joke.

Agreed. German and Teague will be gone next year, slide Preston and maybe BVP up there. Who knows what's gonna happen with the other three but they're all Juniors.

I HATE the logic of giving it to the upper classmen. Give it to the best or the player with the most impact. Who knows what next year holds for these guys. They may never have another season like this one.

This is the best motivation ever for Preston. The man who arguably is the player of the year in the conference doesn't even make 1st Team All-MAC. Best thing that could ever happen. Dude is going to explode even more in the next two years.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. The upperclassmen bias is so predictable and consistent that no fan base can even take it personally. But it makes these awards a joke, especially POY in years without a clearly dominant player when some schmuck senior wins (see: Kool, David).

Especially if that outside shot keeps developing. If he becomes a consistent 40+ shooter from behind the arc? Oh man, good luck, MAC.

BVP making the inexorable climb toward first team....was Freshman of the Year last season, now third tea..

Remember how most of us were flummoxed with him floating around the perimeter last year? Give credit to Big Ben and the Boals staff for adding a very tough inside game to his repertoire. He is now one of the best low post players in the league.

Agree that Preston was good enough to be first team. But as you say, upperclassmen get the advantage. Also, we finished 8th. I don't really have a quibble with the first team selections. But Jay is definitely on their level.

Boals is one of the best "big man" coaches in the country. The play of BVP down the stretch has validated this.

Let's not get carried away. I wouldn't consider BVP a "big man" post player. Now get Foster and Springs to average 5 PPG and 4 boards a game next year and I'll be on board with that assessment of Boals being a tremendous big man coach.

No offense to Springs (I actually like the kid) but if he is around next year it is because no D1 or D2 team in America needed a stretch 5 who plays no D and averages 0.3 rebs per game.

Ever considered that he might like Athens and his teammates and wants to finish his education here?

I love Springs. If the staff can get him a little stronger, I think he can see a few minutes. He adds another dimension to our team. I know coach had mentioned getting him stronger. He can add some flexibility to our offense and defense. He is fun to watch and great to talk to.

He could be a stretch five for us and present some different match ups when needed. Adds another wrinkle to our offense as all of these guys mature. He has good hops to make people shoot over him. He can hit the three and is a decent passer. He needs to continue to improve in all of that and get stronger

Dude is 6'11 and can knock down a 3. Are you kidding? Another year in the weight room and a second year under boals could do wonders. I know all the geniuses and professional athletes here know all there is to know about a kid's potential of course.

Springs has come a lot farther than I thought he ever would. If you watch the videos of him in high school it was clear that he had not receive much coaching growing up. He would stand on the wrong side of the guy he was guarding and didn't even try to box out. Frankly, I didn't think he'd ever actually play for us. I even PM'd a couple people and told them what a horrible recruit he was. But the year off did wonders for him. Not sure he's every going ever be an All-MAC performer but he definitely gives us a different dimension. And even though he's still a project I'll admit I was wrong about him.

Didn't see this anywhere else lost in the midst of the virus talk:

Player of the Year: Loren Cristian Jackson, Akron

Coach of the Year: John Groce, Akron

Freshman of the Year: Jarron Coleman, Ball State

Defensive Player of the Year: Devonta Jordan, Buffalo

6th Man of the Year: Ronaldo Segu, Buffalo
