Is he injured again? After providing some solid minutes since coming back at WMU, and EMU at home, he wasn't terribly effective against UB or BG, and didn't play at all in the last game at EMU.

I wondered, because I keep thinking that he and/or Roderick need to get in form and contribute off the bench for this team to take more steps forward.

I read on here he reaggravated his injury but was thinking the same. I was hopeful based on the WMU game he could be the spark off the bench we desperately needed (or even possibly replace McDay in the starting lineup).

It's no secret that right now our bench is putrid.

We MUST have 1 of the group of:
Miles Brown
Ben Roderick
Connor Murrell

And 1 of the group of:
Mason McMurray
Nolan Foster
Nate Springs

Be able to contribute a solid 15+ minutes a night each with decent counting stats on the order of 8-10 points, 5-6 rebounds and 4-5 assists combined.

Maybe part of that answer is Murrell if he can ever get/stay healthy.

From our freshmen class, McDay looks solid if unspectacular, Foster looks like a good one but like most big men may take a year or two to grow into his body/role to really contribute, Price is goneso, and that leaves Roderick and Brown...both of which I've been SEVERELY underwhelmed by.

The next time Roderick does something besides stand at the 3 point line and catch and shoot a 3 might be the first time. That can be his bread and butter but sometimes you gotta do something else. ANYTHING else.

Bench has to start to find ways to contribute.

Thanks for the heads up on the injury.

I'm in the same mindset with Roderick - puzzled - because early on he showed flashes of more than he is now.

Saw Roderick a couple of times in high school, where he was Ohio's Gatorade Player of the Year. Big step up from that to DI basketball. Could he be a left-handed, slightly taller, version of Jordan Dartis?

Never caught a high school game of Miles Brown but didn't he average around 33 ppg last year? Seeing him in limited action so far as a Bobcat, I've wondered how someone can average more than a point per minute in h.s. have such a below-average looking touch from behind the arc in college?

Brown & Roderick are the two guys I'm looking to first because (as you mentioned) young bigs often just need time to grow into their body...

Brown was billed as scorer/shooter but he hasn't had any luck from 3 yet. Roderick was billed as all-around scorer but haven't seen it yet.

McDay hasn't had a breakout scoring performance, but he's been solid across the board and his presence has definitely been felt. I think he's due to have hit a couple from outside and have a big game. He did have 16 way back against Baylor (who is now #1 in the country)

I've seen crazier things happen.

Hopefully this isn't an extended absence. If it is he probably won't qualify for the medical hardship exemption waiver since he played after the mid point of the season. He played in game 17 (assuming exhibition doesn't count) of our 31 game schedule. Add at least one MAC tourney game and we're getting close...win 1 tourney game and accept an invite to a post season tourney and he might have a case if those post season tournaments count.

When he was healthy and playing with confidence late last year he brought a nice spark off the bench. We could definitely use that. Somehow, it looks like he grew another inch this off-season.

I looked up Northstar Christian Academy in Rochester NY and the enrollment is less than 400 students total K through 12. At this point in life, most of us would be lucky to score 33 points a game vs the blind school. However, what kind of schedule did NCA play? Did they play any large public or Catholic schools?

Connor's only played 4 games this year. He didn't start playing until MAC play.

And reading between the lines of Arkley tweet about the injury it gives the impression we won't see him again this season.

That's correct, it's also correct that you can't play past the midseason point and get the medical hardship exemption. Game 17 was the team's 17th game of the year, nothing to do with his # of games. Of course you can appeal and put it in the NCAA's hands but that's far from a consistent process.

Unless you're Kentucky or OSU or Duke or . . .
