Jason Carter had 2 pts and 4 rebs in 12 minutes last night in his Xavier debut. I didn't watch the game and don't know a lot about Xavier's roster, but three other Forwards scored in double figures and played more minutes.

I read somewhere he's coming off a minor back injury. That might have limited his minutes, just speculating.

Speaking of Xavier, how many of you knew that the head coaching position at X is actually paid for out of an endowment, and the title of the head coach is the "Sedler Family men's head basketball coach". Interesting!

Yes, the Home City Ice family as I recall. I think Michigan has endowed some of their football coaching salaries. That's why these published salary things have to be taken with a grain of salt. UD may have been paying Archie Miller $1.2M but there were 4 supporters also paying him $250K each per year.

Someone told me that Xavier actually contracts with the Sedler Family who then subcontracts the coach. I can't imagine that's true but those kind of arrangements could get to be interesting.

Article that I read awhile ago led me to belief that the salary comes from the Sedler Family Foundation and the coach is essentially their employee. Yes, Michigan is endowing coaching positions as well. I was unaware of the UD deal with Archie

How is he playing this year? NCAA transfer rules are a joke.

He graduated from Ohio. No transfer rules joke here.

I wish Jason nothing but the best. Dude put in the work at OU and was a good teammate. It really was time for the guys who weren't feeling the Boals Bobcat Way to look elsewhere. I don't blame them. I am glad that Murrell, Preston, Darty, McMurray and Springs stayed. They seem to be enjoying their experience. I want people who want to be there. Good luck Jason, TK, Cowart and Gareri. Good luck Butler and Culver...thank you for time served. Don't forget to cheer us on when we make the NCAA Tourney under Boals.

Fortunately almost anything can be shortened to “the NCAA is a joke”

I've seen crazier things happen.

That's because he is being required to sit out a year. Agree with Alan, and The Optimist on the "NCAA is a joke". Transfer rules should be an all or nothing proposition. Either everyone is eligible immediately, or everyone has to have a sit out year. I personally lean towards a sit out year for all.

There are situations where the transfer rules/exceptions are maddening and worth scrutinizing, but I think you guys are off base here for this discsussion. Letting a player who obtains their degree transfer without waiting a year makes perfect sense. Carter got his degree in his 3 years here (1 redshirt), Kirk was only here 2 years and obviously did not obtain his degree and has to sit a year.

I remember reading a number of years ago that Miami's head football coach was the automatic recipient of the Bo Schembechler Chair of Head Coaching. I would guess that's still in place, as the story said it was some kind of endowment.

Funny, none of these folks complained when Frank was taking in Graduate transfer Kickers and TE’s that could play. In fact those folks were welcomed and applauded.

Thank you for saying this so I didn't have to. These two instances are about as cut and dry as it can get.

Given that I barely, if ever, follow Frank's recruiting, I wouldn't fall into that category. It's for another thread, but my only comments in the Fball recruiting threads usually have to do with (chuckling) how that year's class is "the best one we've ever had". Back on topic:

To me it's simple: You choose to leave on your own, you sit a year. If you're put in the middle of a coaching change (not of your choosing obviously), you don't sit a year. If you're a grad transfer, such as Jaaron Simmons, you still sit a year. You get to work on your grad degree and use basketball to have two degrees - bonus for you!

Granted, it's just my opinion, but to me, there's nothing wrong with simply making the rule apply the same to everyone. Because the way the NCAA does it now is a complete joke. While I applaud Carter for being able to graduate early, I think the fact that TK has to sit, while Carter doesn't, is dumb. But it embodies everything the NCAA does - everything they do with these rules is wildly inconsistent.

And for me, I'm never going to relent on the opinion that grad transfers should have a sit out year. If they're transferring for academics - i.e. the spirit of the rule to begin with, they'll get a year to work on that grad degree. You're all welcome to disagree and that's fine.

The only area where I see appeals making sense are areas related to player injuries and said players asking for an additional year of eligibility. Ricardo Johnson, for example, would have been a great example of a player that I thought deserved that type of exception in an appeal.

In the context of the current rules, and how they are being applied to these two cases, they are.

I saw first half.

JC didn't practice much recently per announcers. They have a 4 star frosh big and 2 returning bigs. JC drew 2 fouls I saw. I think he's in the rotation more as he feels better. Looked decent. Playing more of a 3 from my observation.

nahh. Grads are rewarded for kicking butt and getting their degree WHILE juggling academics. Guys like tk are not doing that. What was that line about majoring in eligibility? They are not much concerned about the gift they possess and how to use it to prepare for the rest of their life. They jus wanna hoop. Don care much bout classes.

Do you have any source that would indicate that TK was behind on classes? He was on campus for two years, of course he hadn't graduated yet.

And one of those guys had a GPA that was running the software version of a 2001 iTunes program. .
