Their PG Carsen Edwards is averaging 25+ points per game. I'm assuming Ohio will put Cowart on him, as he's probably been our best perimeter defender at this point. Also would not be surprised to see Ohio go bigger than usual with more minutes for BVP to combat their front line.

I'll take the over on Edwards getting his 25pts and 4ast averages. He's the best PG we're gonna face this year by far in my opinion. As a team, they aren't as good as I thought they'd be though. Maybe if TK can manage to keep the turnovers to 3-4 instead of 7-9, we'll have a chance to be in this one late. Maybe.

I can live with 6-7 from TK. Yes, 3-4 is ideal, but he has to make things happen and he has the ball the most. What we can't have is a bunch from everyone else. we need good hands all around and let's face it, we'll need an above average shooting night. We are a terrible outside shooting team but can get away with it many nights. We're also a below average FT Shooting team and that has to improve if we want to win close games against good teams. Who do you trust at the line right now? Carter? That's about it. If we want to pull an upset on the road, this is one time where we can't get away with that.

I agree with all of your thoughts there except the TO's. It's hard to overcome your primary ball handler leading the nation in turns - against almost any team that's any good.

For the sake of comparison, I looked up Simmons, Willis, and Taylor under Saul. Simmons averaged about 4 turns a game, but also averaged 6.5 and 7.9 assists/game. TK is never gonna get to those types of numbers, and averages nearly 6 a game to 3.4 assists.

Willis averaged 2.8 and Taylor 1.7 in their senior year by comparison.

To be fair, I thought Bean handled the press the worst of any player I have ever seen at this level. It's like his instinct was to get to get trapped and pick up his dribble.

To me, the issue was that Bean was asked to be a primary ball handler, something that was not his strength. He probably would have been best suited to be a 6th, 7th man off the bench - i.e. 'instant offense'.

Looking at the game, and away from the Bean show.....

Edwards and Cline are the highest volume players in terms of minutes, and FG attempts (and makes) by far. After that they play seven guys from 27 to 13 mins/game. Lots of depth. Big guy named Haarms, who statistically looks like he's big, but not necessarily a great player.

While they're 6-5, they've also lost 4 of those 5 in close losses of two possessions or less to good teams VT, ND, Texas, and FSU. Michigan blew them out in the first B1G game of the year a couple weeks back.

I think Ohio can hang with them down low, but I think Edwards and Cline, and Nojel Eastern - the 3rd guard, give TK, Cowart, Preston a really hard time. Of course that's probably going to be the trend all year long with Ohio.

Sorry guys, but I can't agree that 6-7 turnovers by your point guard is anywhere near "I can live with that". If we do not get our turnovers under control, it is going to be a long MAC season.

This could very well be a "get blown out of the gym" game. If so, let's not overreact to it.

If not, let's overreact to it.

keep in mind, I was trying to say we can survive 6-7 turnovers in a given game. I don't think that's a good number. 3-4 or fewer is ideal. But he has the ball a lot and I trust him bringing the ball up vs the press. I think where he struggles if the passing/communicating with his teammates. and there may be situations where it's the receiver rather than the qb. He's not the only one turning the ball over, they need to come down across the board.

I agree that he does have the ball in his hands a lot more and should because he can make things happen, but accounting for north of 30% of your teams total turnovers is alarming.

Of course he has the ball a lot, he's our point guard. That's no excuse for the turnovers. I trust him bringing the ball up against the press too, but that's not where most of his turnovers come from, they come from him barreling into pressure, often into two defenders, without seemingly a plan or looking to pass first. That's what he has to fix in my opinion, and I think it is fixable. I don't want to find out if we "can survive" 6-7 turns a game from him, that's just way way too high.

This is a winnable game with good passing and good defense. I watched Purdue play Notre Dame, they have one scorer and the rest of the team has a hard time pulling the rest of the load. This can be the shot heard around the world.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

We have a LOT of TO's that are just plain bad passing from more than just TK.

A lot of TK's and some others are ill advised dish attempts often inside to JC and DT (Great Plan) - But often not an open pass opportunity and D can quickly close on (court vision) - or tough for JC or DT to be able to get a handle on in the scrum (with the ball at their knees or below at their feet).

We also have a lot of WTF was that passes - nobody in the area - 10 feet above the intended receiver - receiver not even aware/looking etc.

And a lot from just plain bad ball handling - dribble off your own foot, not protecting the ball w/body or position, etc., etc.

All of those are "fixable" over time - with coaching, learning/experience, concentration/focus, etc.

Agree. The turnover rate by TK is completely unacceptable. He partially offsets that with his great rebounding, but its still unacceptable.

This is where my vote goes. Purdue will use this game as a statement to get back on track. It will be good though to go into the faux Convocation Center and not have to deal with students and a rowdy crowd.

WTF - I call us a 20 pt underdog. Fight and contend thru the game and end up less than that and I certainly won't feel like it's the end of the world.....
