This is the second time this year that the ladies had a 99+% chance to win on metrics (up 27 or whatever it was late in the 2nd vs Miami), allowed the other team to tie it, and won anyway. Tennessee did the same thing in the NCAA again today.

MTS played a smart game and almost won one we should have won going away. But that didn’t happen. We again survive without playing our A game. Defense pretty solid, but offense was not there for much of it. Usually at least one OHIO player has a very good game, but I don’t think so today on offense. And the physics of the bouncing ball didn’t go our way either.

But it was another Bolden gem call, with 5 seconds left, this time calling Cece Hooks’s number, and she makes a great baseline drive to win it.

Go OHIO

Way to go Cats

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Not making the NCAas May be a blessing in disguise. Had OU won a game or two in the big tournament.. the cats might have Been looking for a new coach.

It could still happen but there is less chance of it. Another plus is that they have a realistic chance of hitting 30 wins. Too bad that they only had 29 regular season games.

Not sure what game you were watching but we never lead by 12. I actually don’t think the lead ever got above 6 or 7 at most the whole game.

Ohio's biggest lead was 6 with 34 seconds to go when Bower split two free throws. Middle Tennessee hit the 3, Doseck hit two free throws, and then they hit another 3 to make it a two-point game. Hooks got the inbound deep and could have had an uncontested layup but opted to pass on the shot to run off more clock before she was fouled. Probably should have taken the points when they would have been that easy but it worked out! She made up for missing the free throws.

Western Kentucky actually tied Middle Tennessee for three place in the Sun Belt so it will be a similar caliber opponent Thursday, although it seems they have different styles. Middle Tennessee was a slower-place defensive team while Western Kentucky is more up-tempo even though they have a big 6-4 post player.

Yeah, the 99%+ win chance came when Bower hit that first free throw and had another chance coming that would have put us up 7 with 34 seconds.

By the way, Ohio is the last MAC women's basketball team playing. Central Michigan lost a one-point game to Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA. Buffalo won its first game but lost today in the second round to UConn 84-72. Toledo and Kent State both won in the first round of the WNIT and lost in the second round. Miami lost in the first round. Akron lost in the first round of the WBI.

I may be wrong, when the bucks lose soon. I think the girls might be the last D1 school left in post season from Ohio. bummer that OSU girls lost in the first round. it would have been neat to see Buckeyes lose again in the Convo

You're right. I went to the play by play after the game as I often do, and was surprised to see that 12 point spread. I had either clicked on a different game or the box score at that time was not reporting the correct game. Either way, it's my fault and I apologize.

Western Ky and MTSU are actually members of CUSA and split their 2 regular season games with each other. WKU won one by 12 and lost the other by 11. It should be another good game in the Convo Thursday evening. It sure would be great to see more people there Thursday evening.
Maybe this should be the week for the Athletic Department to hit the local schools in Athens, Meigs, Vinton, and Jackson Counties for free tickets for students and/or reduced ticket prices for accompanying adults. Looking ahead, the winner of this game will take on the winner of the Northwestern vs WVU game that is being played in Morgantown Wednesday evening.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the Lady Cats are the last MAC team, men's or women's, still playing in the postseason, are they not?
Go 'Cats! We are iN IT... so win it!!!!

If we are being honest with ourselves...could you have whistled Hooks for a travel on that game winner? Seemed like a lot of movement with the ball in her hands...

The CMU & Buffalo showings were once again more than respectful in the NCAA. It has been an impressive couple years of ladies basketball in the MAC.

Yes, I meant Conference USA but sometimes those old ideas come forward in my head. It happens all the time when I try to call a high school player by an older sibling's name. It should be another good game but another one Ohio should win if it plays well. I don't think the Bobcats have played their best so far in these first two tournament games but it's been good enough.

The officiating was pretty poor on both ends. Again. MTSU coaches wanted a foul on the final in bounds play. There was some contact, for sure. Not enough for a whistle, IMO, but there was contact. They let far more egregious contact go all day. And with .3 or .4 on the clock, I don't think there was a chance that MTSU's final play could have worked. Long in bounds pass, caught, quick pass to a team mate...I don't think there was nearly enough ticks left to allow a shot to get off with that play. Dom Doseck got clobbered several times, took what should have been charges that were no calls. Erica Johnson should have been called for a late foul on a slap in the 4th. When I can hear the smack from the stands, I think there was a foul. I thought both teams got away with extra steps several times. Earlier in the game, a deflected ball was going out of bounds off MTSU and the ball contacted a ref, staying in, MTSU got the ball and cost Ohio a possession. A tipped ball out of bounds clearly off MTSU was called off Ohio by a ref completely out of position that in no way could have made the call, but the ref IN POSITION threw up the "I dunno" hands. I won't lie, in NO WAY do I want their job. But they are being paid to do their job, and when it's done as poorly as it has been lately it's hard not to say something.

Bower had some pretty big plays in this game, with a critical three, a made free throw, and a crunch time shot block near the rim. Missed free throws nearly sunk this game. 16/26 from the line left a lot of free points off the board. MTSU's guard #1 was killing us off penetration and I thought we made a mistake not trying to get her out of the game after she picked up her 4th foul early in the 4th quarter. I thought Deesh Beck had some good minutes, too. 4 points and 3 boards and added some physicality off the bench. We survived not playing our best game. The ladies are due for a strong performance on Thursday. Let's march this thing onward.
