80-73 win, 2nd straight year beating Purdue. Move to 7-0. If we get a win at Coppin State we may get some points in the top 25 polls next week. Purdue had a couple votes in the top 25, and just came off beating #21 Miami-Fl.

Cece Hooks a huge game with 31. If you thought TK has reckless abandon attacking the rim, have a look at Hooks. As aggressive as I've ever seen. If she learns to pick her spots a bit better she could be an all-time great.

Huge win. Burke commits 3 fouls early in the 1st quarter and sits most of the half, then gets her 4th at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and Bolden hangs with her and she never fouls out. Doseck came up big, going 4 for 6 from beyond the arc before fouling out. Burris, Johnson, Bower, and Beck all with big contributions.

But it was sophomore Hooks, as noted above, who put on a show: 31 points, 7 boards, 5 assists and 5 steals (8th in nation as a frosh last year and already holds the all-time Ohio season steal record). I said last year if there 's anyone capable of a quadruple double, it's Cece.

Watched the last part of this game, after it was clear that the men were going to lose. Hooks has one big glaring issue in her game -- her foul shooting down the stretch. If she had hit her foul shots in the last few minutes OHIO would have had a double digit win. In a closer game, her foul shooting might have lead to a loss. Obviously, the rest of her game and her floor shooting are very, very good. Just a little nit picking here. Great win, Lady 'Cats! Go OHIO!

P.S. She was 9 for 15 in FT for the entire game -- 60%, but in the last few minutes it was more like 25%.

Impressive win, persevering through some horrendous officiating. I was a little uncomfortable with how early we decided to start killing clock and taking the foot off the accelerator, but we got the W. Keep it rolling!

OCF, Hooks had been shooting a lot better until that point late in the game. That also happened after she came up a little gimpy being knocked to the floor, so not sure if that had something to do with it.

You have a point. I may have missed the injury. Before I gave up on the men, I was kind of watching the women on my iPhone and the men on my TV -- giving half attention to each game. After the men were hopelessly behind, I paid closer attention to the ladies, and then when the men lost I put the women's game on my TV via AppleTV. I agree that the women started to play the "clock game" a little early, IMHO.

One other question on Hooks: What is this with her jacking up her shorts? Is this so that we can all see the tattoo on her upper leg? I recently watched a game -- in person -- between Caly Poly, SLO, and Illinois. We were in SLO for Thanksgiving at my daughter's, and one of the Cal Poly players had her shorts jack up in the same way. I remember a few years ago, we had a men's player that did the same thing. Some kind of a personal statement proclaiming one's individuality? Just curious. Always looks a bit strange to me.

Really cool that the women are on a roll, it was a great environment in the Convo last night as well.

Great job! This brings back a lot of memories. Some of us remember Athens being officially proclaimed "Tourney Town 1986" when the men's and women's team were on the march. I won the game ball signed by Coach Prichard and all the Lady Bobcats. It was an exciting time as both the men's and women's team played two Big Ten teams in the Convo (in the same week, the ladies playing Illinois in the NCAA tournament and the men playing Ohio State in the NIT) if memory serves me correctly.

That's right. I think it was back to back nights. Great crowds, both Ohio teams played well and stayed close but lost. Danny Nee was the men's coach, and he was just here at the Marshall game. He took us from nowhere to somewhere.

Wow What a welcome turnaround we’ve had in this program than under the prior coaching staff. Will be difficult to keep our coach beyond this year, since he will surely get some good offers.

Not as difficult as you think....There are things in play that makes OHIO very welcome to the current staff. Now, will OHIO make a decision that we need to up our pay and support? Well that is another question.

I thought the same thing after the immediate turnaround and NCAA berth...but we still have him.

As good as they have been thus far, as long as there is no unexpected roster attrition, next year they will be absolutely stacked with talent, depth, and experience.

Way to go Ladies

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Once again, with CMU, Buffalo, and Toledo, it is going to take a top 25 team to win the conference.

Bobcats are killin' it, especially in 3rd quarters, sign of a well coached team with high BBIQ players. 8-0, time for some votes!

If what I looked at last night was the most recent poll, we got 0 votes. CMU got 3.

Not the most recent poll.

BTW, out of curiosity, I just looked at UConn's schedule. Unless you consider Saint Louis a mid-major, there is not a single mid-major team on their non-conference schedule.

Ladies are ranked 54th in the latest Massey ratings. FWIW, we have the worst strength of schedule of anyone in the top 60. Ours is #244, CMU's is #49 and they are ranked 26th.

How many times has the MAC in women's basketball been a two-bid league? More often than the men?

I seem to recall that it happened last year, with both invited teams winning in the first round or two. One of the teams, maybe CMU, beat the Evil Empire. This is all from memory, so please correct me if I'm misremembering.

At 8-0 we should be receiving votes in the top 25 poll. There are teams ranked with 3 & 4 losses, NOT FAIR

No votes this week for us in the AP or Coaches' polls. Central Michigan got 1.

Yes, Central Michigan was the auto qualifier and as #11 seed beat LSU and Ohio State (blew them out) before losing to Oregon. Buffalo was an at-large and #11 seed and blew out South Florida and Florida State before losing to South Carolina. Those were the first MAC wins in the NCAA tournament since 2009 when Ball State knocked off Tennessee. I think the last time before that the MAC had two women's team in the tournament was 1996. So the MAC has no better a reputation for women's basketball than men's but last year was a big year and this year the MAC looks like a really strong league again.

A 73-66 road win against the probably second best team in the Horizon in IUPUI. They have two more road games this year. Richmond (12/22) had a pretty good program in the early part of this decade but is only 2-7 this year. American (12/29) is only 4-4 but had played a very tough schedule and will be a similar type challenge as IUIPI.

As mentioned the MAC schedule opens with two sweet 16 teams from last season who both look close to that good this season. At Buffalo on 1/5 and vs CMU on 1/9. If they are still unbeaten in four weeks then that would really be something.
