The Blue Ribbon analysis of both USF and Loyola Marymount pick them at the bottom of their conferences, so you would think that these are games we should win. Both teams are very big with a 7'2" center on USF and a 7'3" center on Loyola and surrounded by other bigs. It appears our outside game is going to have to be working to pull off the sweep.

It appears that the 7'2" for USF doesn't play that much (10 total minutes in two games so far) although they do have a 7'0" freshman who plays more. What I'd like to know is how does a 7'2" guy shoot 36% from the field like he did last year?

$20 for the OU fan who whistles Montego Bay and gets it picked up on a TV Camera......

In all seriousness, definitely will be a good game for our boys and if we can get this one, would be a good one to get.

The Cats hit on all cylinders and win 78-61 in route to starting off the season winning the first five games. Go Cats

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Out of curiosity, where does blue ribbon project Ohio in the MAC?

I would guess middle of the pack at best ....

Fun fact, we were interested in USF's 7'2'' guy but Saul didn't offer.

http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromPa...

This USF team is much like the one we beat in Nashville: Big, slow paced half-court game, no real stars. Keep the pace high and run the fast break whenever you can.

And passes need to be quick, strong, crisp. At least 3 were intercepted. Floaters can be ok at times but some would probably have been picked off by more talented defenders.

You beat me to it! Out of curiosity I looked up his career stats. He did shoot 50% (4 of 8) from the field in 2003-04.

I thought the reason for the floating passes was the angles available against the 1-2-2. I thought we handled it well.

Ohio never took advantage of the Sweet 16 year. Seven lost years since then for the program unfortunately.

Let me see if I recall why that is, oh yes, IMO these four things for lost season number one:

Ivo went AWOL
TJ Hall's knees limited him
Kellogg went 0 for February/March and
OHIO barely squeaked by Akron in Cleveland during the Sweet 16 and what you consider lost season #1 couldn't duplicate when Akron's Harney put the breaks on DJ and other than Reggie the supporting cast wasn't there that night.

Yup - all because Groce f$cked us over by caring more about money than his players - at least he fell on his greedy ass in Illinois. Man - if he stays we get Lavert and then probably even someone better than him - I mean can you say elite 8....dare In say Final 4?

Or maybe we just need to stop playing and dwelling on what if

How often does a mid-major get to keep a coach after a sweet 16? It just doesn't happen. Then then the next guy stays 2 and bolts. both coaches recuited blue chippers that bailed after coaching changes. You just don't reload that easily. Yet, We returned to the MAC final one year, been to the semis twice. we've twice lost our best player to injury early when we were favorites in the league. Don't feed me crap about how it doesn't matter when your best player goes down. A lot of MAC rosters can look pedestrian when their stud is out. Not saying all praise be Saul, but I don't envy his position as coach of the walking dead the last few years. Groce had to compete against Akron squads that were always good but rarely great and very beatable. and of course he gets credit for recruiting DJ who was a once in a decade player if not better. Stay healthy, learn to play together, and get hot at the right time and we can easily get there again. This myth that in a one-bid league it's somehow going to be easy to repeat post-season success is absurd.

Ohio basketball fans should never be content going seven years without a trip to the Big Dance...ever. Nobody expects it to happen every year. But seven years is not acceptable. I believe most fans who follow the program closely believe this as well.

Historically speaking, since the start of the MAC tourney era, how often do we win the MAC tourney and go dancing? And have we ever had any droughts longer than the current one?

I cited all of those facts since the modern era of the NCAA Tournament (when 64 teams was started -- 1985) last year in another thread. All but a handful of reasonable minds didn't care about the norms or averages over the last 30+ years. They just wanted to pound their fists and demand what they wanted - as if Ohio is some mid-major super power. I'm well over arguing about that, because it's an argument that isn't going to go anywhere -- I'm not changing the minds of those who are pounding their fists. Their mind is made up for whatever their reasons.

I will offer one point though: While many want to blame Saul for everything gone wrong, what about our esteemed athletic director?

Also, it's intriguing that some people who support football's perpetual 7-5 or 8-4 seasons that fall short of Detroit are quickly willing to dump on basketball because they haven't gotten to the MAC Championship game. Food for thought.
