Just got this email.

Platinum and Gold Season Ticket Holder,

Thank you for your purchase of OHIO Men’s Basketball season tickets. Your investment and support is valued and appreciated.

To add even more value to your purchase, we are offering you the right to purchase additional single game Gold seats for only $10. Buy for family or friends and give them the experience of sitting in the lower bowl.

Simply call our ticket office at 800-575-2287 or 740-593-1300 to purchase your single game tickets. Tickets are limited so call today to reserve your seats for future games.

They should make those single game tickets in those sections available to the public for all games. I think $30-$50 is fair for a platinum single game seat.

Here is the second part of the email.

In addition, we ask that you please do all that you can to get your tickets used each game. Having fans in your lower bowl seats makes the Convocation Center game day experience better and gives our team an extra boost. Remember, while you can simply give your game tickets to someone else, you can also call our ticket office and they can reprint the tickets and leave them at Will Call for the selected recipient.

Besides what shabamon said, which is something they should have been doing for a long time in my opinion, there's a solution to this problem:

Reduce the cost of those tickets and/or the required donations. Clearly supply and demand shows that supply is greater than demand. I can name three families that I personally know that downgraded from lower bowl to upper bowl because the donation kept increasing. While I know Ohio is less than a lot of places, it's pretty obvious that the cost has gone past the perceived value. That means they need to change what they're doing for season tickets, and for ticket options in general.

I got the email too, and have to say that I'm not a big fan of this second part. Granted, I'm there almost every game - but it rubs me the wrong way that they are essentially trying to tell me what to do with my tickets. If I spend the money to buy them, it's my business what I do with them from there.

I know a lot of folks that buy in the lower bowl and live 2-3 hours away. Obviously, they aren't making it to the coveted midweek showdown with Campbell. If they want to find someone to give their tickets to, that's great. But if they sit on them and watch on ESPN3, that's fine too.

I'd be worrying far less about people who have already purchased tickets and more about, you know, trying to sell some more tickets.

What are the NCAA rules related to resale of tickets? Because to me, besides changing the whole entire structure of ticketing - i.e. making up some options for those people who live 2-3 hours away and only come on the weekends (which is fine obviously), a solution is to simply create a resale environment that allows people to list their tickets for sale on those occasions.

In terms of giving them away, it's not as if the ticket is such hot ticket right now that giving them away is always easy.

I think you're being a little sensitive. They're not telling you what to do. they have your money and you have the tickets. I'm sure it's just a reminder that you can repurpose them on days you can't make it. The people who use those tickets will still buy concessions and park and people in the seats is always better than not.
