Since we are never invited to the MAC Media Days, I formally commence "Media Days" for Bobcat Attack. Since we do not invite coaches or players here, we will be subjected to the expertise of our panel here at Bobcat Attack. Feel free to project your thoughts of the East Division and standings for what you predict will happen......

Can you make the poll so we can give votes to reflect where the board feels the final standings would fall?

Unfortunately no, hence why we can do it like this. Unless Ted or Jeff tell us there is a way to do so, this is our unfortunate way of doing so:

1. Buffalo
2. Ohio
3. Akron
4. Kent State
5. Miami
6. Bowling Green

The East is going to be interesting this year. While I hope Ohio wins it, I'd vote UB all day until they're knocked off that perch. The obvious key for UB is going to be filling the void at PG left by Clark.

After UB, Ohio, Akron, Kent, Miami all seem like potentially viable 2nd place picks. I'd lean toward Akron and Ohio as 2a, and 2b, Kent 3, Miami 3b or 4. But none of them would surprise me as the second place team.

Definitely a lot of dynamic teams that can fill the 2-5 slots in the East and for that matter give Toledo and WMU fits. My problem with BSU is that they gotta put one season together which they have not proven to be able to do.

That said, if our unit comes out swinging out of the gates, it can get fun in a hurry. Problem is, is getting the duck to swim in that pond.

While I think Buffalo has the best roster top to bottom, there's certainly no guarantees when it comes to a single elimination tournament in Cleveland.

In the east with the exception of maybe Akron you can point to two solid play makers on each team but they're getting some guys in who had to sit out last year so they could be a wild card. I really like Ohio's lineup with Carter back and Kirk is a stud. Miami was lucky to retain Ringo after he was previously reported to be leaving the team and Nike Sibande reminds me a lot of CJ Massinburg and will likely have a similar career trajectory.

My Ranking of the East:

1. Buffalo
2. Ohio
3. Miami
4. BGSU
5. Akron
6. Kent State

4-6 is a total crap shoot for me. There's talent there but I don't see any of them finishing above .500

I like a lot of what you've said here - especially the point about Cleveland and single elimination. You're spot on with Miami and Ringo apparently returning. Does anyone know anything about why he was leaving, or what led to his return?

The only thing I'm not in agreement on is Akron. JG has a ton of talent and athleticism that has transferred in. I'd expect them to be pretty darn good by early February if not sooner.

Gross is a great coach & Akron probably has a lot of talent but they're just such an unknown quantity to me right now. I know they've got some transfers who sat out last year but until I see how it all fits together I wouldn't wager any money on them. I think Gross needs one more year to turn it around.

If you believe what you read in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook, the MAC is going to be really tough as a whole this year, and the MAC East will be very, very good top to bottom.

The first thing I noted when reading through was that the MAC returns 17 of the top 20 scorers from last year, and that doesn't include new arrivals like KJ Walton, or a returning healthy player like Jason Carter. Should be a fun year!

In the MAC West, Blue Ribbon has lots of good things to say about EMU, Ball State, and Toledo. Less good things to say about CMU, WMU, and NIU.

Surprised about WMU, they were very young last year I thought and figured they could make a run in the conference if 100%.

OK, I possibly put that the wrong way. It's more that they had more positive things to say about the other teams than WMU. They could be wrong too. I'd never bet against Hawkins' ability to put a solid squad on the floor.

They weren't really that young last year. They started one Senior, 3 Juniors and a Soph and that one Senior was Thomas Wilder. Losing the best player off of a 9-9 team is going to raise some question marks. Big shoes to fill.

Not optimistic about our chances this year. I've got:

1. Buffalo
2. Kent State
3. Akron
4. Ohio
5. Miami
6. Bowling Green

Hope to be wrong, but I'm afraid that we are lining up for a rather mediocre "lame duck" season for Saul. I see Akron improving under Groce, and Kent State always finds a way to compete. We should be a notch above Miami and BG, though.

Hester, the big transfer supposed to be eligible this year for Akron, is not listed on their roster. What gives? It's not because of redshirting, he was on the 2017 roster as being a redshirt.

A search of Twitter shows a couple people in the last week asking about why he's not on the roster but no answers.

I understand your line of thinking, and I don't entirely disagree, though I'll say this much: I think the reasoning Ohio could finish that low is seriously influence by how good the MAC East looks to be from 2-5 after UB. I'm looking forward to it because with more good teams should come a bunch of great games.

I agree. Buffalo should be 1, Bowling Green 6. In between, I don't really know. There's things to like about all four teams.

I think we will be better than Kent but worse than Miami. I have no idea what to expect from Akron.

Just read that Bryce Moore is out for the year recovering from knee surgery and Brandon Johnson and Seth Dugan are possibly out for the year. Reading their board and they aren't very confident about their prospects this year.

Thanks for sharing that tidbit Van. That's a lot of minutes from last year sitting on the injured list at WMU!
