Not that I don't believe Arkley or others on this board who have already reported it, but hearing the words from coach's mouth that JC is 100% full go calms the nerves a lot. Really hope Jordy is gaining strength day by day. If not we will see a lot of "Jimmy G for Three" early.

This is a make or break year for Saul as his contract expires at the year end. I believe that since he wasn't given an extension he is on the HOT seat.
Between all the new faces and all the off season surgeries I will be pleasantly surprised if we are a .500 team. At .500 I doubt he will be given an extension.

I'm a little bit more encouraged by his words about Dartis, though I wonder how many weeks he'll need to get up to 100%, and at what point they'll consider letting him fully recover and redshirt. It's my hope that isn't even a consideration because he'll be healthy by Jamaica.

With a mostly healthy squad, I would definitely expect better than .500, but we'll see. The MAC is very solid this year.

Unfortunately, the extension, or lack of, is bound to be the most talked about thing in this forum all season. I'll be really interested to see how Schaus handles this throughout the year. I'll also be really disappointed if he isn't asked about it by reporters.

It is my understanding that he has been asked and has said that he will not comment on it.

This is true but at some point you've got to ask again anyway.

It certainly is! Sounds like a coach who has his back against the wall, and that the only thing now is for the team to perform well on the court. Nothing left to say. Results is all that matters now. Good luck, Saul, you are going to need it.

Compare this interview to his first pre-season interview with Russ 4 years ago. Gone are the one liners and laughter. Saul knows he must win big this season.

Just a question...if Saul feels that this year is make-or-break in terms of his future, does that make him more likely to put Dartis in this year rather than to work towards a redshirt season? Would he go for 1/2 a Dartis season with him as coach rather than the possibility of an entire Dartis season with no Saul?

I would hope he'd make the "right" decision for Dartis. IMO, that's sitting out the year and going full bore next year.

If we're getting down to brass tacks, the right decision may have been to sit him last year when the season was already lost. But I don't think Jordy is the type of guy that is just going to sit anyway. Kid wants to play and is tough.

I agree with this angle. Since we can't change the past, here's to hoping he can return to fitness for a mostly full Senior season.

And just to play Devil's Advocate, if Saul redshirts Dartis this year, he is then let go by the administration at the end of the season, does Dartis WANT to come back to Ohio to play his final season under a new coach?

My answer to that is 95% no, he doesn't want come back.

I'm not 100% sure Dartis would return for a 5th year even if Saul returns next year. Instead, he might follow his one-time backcourt mate Simmons and go the grad-transfer route.

If this team can stay healthy they got a shot at winning the MAC tournament. Taylor, Carter, Block, Dartis and Kirk are a solid starting five. They have enough experience to play well in high pressure games. The bench is a question, but figure we have enough to have a solid rotation. MAC is balanced so its hard to see one team dominating the regular season. Buffalo is good, but they good the pressure and expectations. Ohio has had success in years where they were the underdog. This teams doesn't have a superstar player, but a balanced attack makes it have for teams to key on one guy.

"Played" is a relative term. Regardless, not sure he got what he wanted out of the experience (improved chance at NBA/large pro contract).
