I'll be first to admit, I wasn't the most excited about Albin being named the new head coach in 2021. Given the circumstances/timing of Frank stepping down, I thought it would be a season-long interim deal (like Fickell with OSU in 2011) and was not pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be the long-term decision.

Having said that, two championship game appearances in three years (matching Frank's best ratio), two in the first four seasons (Frank was 2 in 5), maybe it turned out to be the right call? Just my opinion, but does anybody feel the same way?

Maybe?
I was wrong. He’s great! We’re lucky to have him!

I was absolutely wrong on Tim Albin. He's been a great head coach for the program. Two straight 10-win seasons with an opportunity for a 3rd is a remarkable accomplishment at Ohio.

I still get frustrated with his decision making at times but acknowledge that he's evolved since taking over.

I admitted/declared unreservedly that I was wrong as early as the 2022 season, haven't had any reason to rescind that admission

We need to reach that goal.

Don't wanna brag, but I never disliked the hire or gave up on him. Always felt Frank's successor deserved a good sustained chance at it.

Regardless, he and his staff have done a tremendous job. Both the 22 & 24 seasons were incredible improbable runs with rapid in-season improvement that was fun to watch.

He outcoaches the opposing team's coach 90% of the time. He puts guys in position to be successful, maximizes talent and has teams outperforming expectations. He's done a great job adjusting to the way recruiting and building a roster has changed in the last few years. He's done an incredible job.

I wouldn't say that the thought of changing coaches right before the season enthralled me. But given the circumstances of Solich's retirement I could have told you who our new coach was even if nobody had told me. Albin was the obvious hire. How could anyone have expected anything else?

He was in my mind at the time an Ohio guy and I really wanted to see him succeed and get a fair chance. I was pretty unhappy with the 3-9 start. The Duquesne loss was particularly disappointing. I never called for his head or anything close to that. It wasn't just that I wanted him to get a fair chance but it just isn't a thing I do. I wouldn't call for someone's job in any profession unless there are extreme circumstances. I do understand as a highly paid public figure there are different circumstances on a coach that trying to get a waitress fired or something like that. But even as an alum, a donor to OU, as booster, and season ticket holder I still don't think that I am either qualified or have the right to call for a coaches job.

There was a point when we were 1-2 and Fordham had about a 50/50 chance to beat us late in the game that I was at that point EXPECTING that he was not going to survive into 2023. If you had told me sitting in the stands that day wondering if we were going to take a second straight FCS loss what OUr record is since then I would have been absolutely stunned. That turnaround and recovering this years portal losses are pretty stunning. Really, it makes it more disappointing in retrospect that we failed to win the MAC in 2023.

I was on the fence, at first. I figured that Albin had earned the chance, and given that short time before the season in 2021 after he was promoted, I figured it would be 2022 that would decide. I was impressed with his changes to the coaching staff between 21 and 22, so I was optimistic that 22 would be back on track. By mid-season 2022 I was convinced that Albin was the right hire, and I've been an Albin fan ever since.

You and several others were dead wrong about Coach Albin. What this team accomplished after losing 13 plus players to power four schools is nothing short of amazing. This guy can coach period! If Coach Albin does not win the conference coach of the year it is a complete sham!

I’m not going to eat my words until Ohio wins a MAC Championship. That’s been the goal since Frank got here, and it still hasn’t happened.

We need to reach that goal.

Ohio football has now won or tied for two regular season MAC championships in the last four seasons. Banners are hung in the Convocation Center for those type of accomplishments and football does not get two chances like teams in the roundhouse get. Or for that matter like softball/baseball get. Baseball, Volleyball, Softball and Basketball does not have to end up in first or second to get in the conference tournament.

Get out of here with that nonsense. The only thing that matters is a MAC Championship Banner.

Ate my crow two years ago. Considering the obstacles this program faces being smack dab in the middle of Appalachia in Hicktown USA with virtually NO corporate opportunities for NIL bucks, the mass exodus of portal escapees, how can one not be impressed with what Albin has accomplished. His ability in this new Wild-West environment that exists in todays football world bringing in players from parts unknown and getting them to meld as a “team” improving week over well is rewarding and as a fan exciting and appreciative to watch. Go Bobcats!!!

If it matters to him then it matters to him. Sports are for entertainment. It is hard to tell someone what they should and shouldn't find personally entertaining.

This has, IMO, been a good season. That is especially true given preseason expectations. It will be a great one of we win the MAC Championship. But, for me, I would not say that the MACC is the only thing that matters. A season with a MACC might be great but in my opinion a win in any of the three games we lost would have made a pretty big difference in in being a lot better.

In a rare aligning of the planets, OCF,SBH and myself all said the man was on the right path from the beginning.

Does that get us a free hotel to Ford Field Shuttle? Asking for a friend.

Tim Albin has always treated the young men like his own sons. I've rarely met a Coach with such genuine love for his players and who tells you honestly & plainly what he expects..he once offered to have Mrs Albin cook dinner for some Transfer guys who he had just picked up off a Greyhound Bus during The Summer. I knew then he was a Special Coach and Human hope he gets that MAC Championship!

I’ve never been out on Albin. As a Steelers and Ohio football fan, I value continuity. Have to imagine some of the portal kids and kids who would otherwise hit the portal do too.

OCF called for him to be fired, and wouldn't shut up about how the AD got out-negotiated by hiring Albin in a non interim role.
