Statement from the university: "U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.

Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately."

Tsk, tsk.......

I'm assuming Bryce Underwood is working on portal entry now. I already figured Kiffin might try to get him to LSU before UM canned Moore.

Oh look, a University can take action by ripping a band-aid off and not dragging everyone in the program down, zero confidence in an organization with our track record of these things.

Kudos to Michigan. Total transparency. Action immediate.

Shame on Ohio. Total boondoggle of the situation with Smith. A coverup. Nobody needs specifics. What should be DEMANDED from players. recruits, staff & fans is an outline of the situation. Is it health, marriage, NCAA violations, inappropriate affair etc --- something. Not speculation that keeps dragging on.
Shame on OU!

Even more context: Moore was detained by one PD in metro Detroit and turned over to another department

Yeah, something tells me IF Coach Smith is in hot water for inappropriate relations, the situation is nowhere near as bad as this.

You may be right, but I wouldn't be so sure.

Got that one right.

lol. You all are way off on this. Reports are that the Michigan AD was aware and covered it up, and that he will be fired by the Michigan BOD. They literally held onto it until recruits were signed. Moore was cuffed today. All this after Conor Stallions and the Harbaugh scandals? Transparency my ass.

By the way, if Moore had a relationship with this staffer, he should have been put on leave right away. That separates the two. By statute, having a relationship with a subordinate without notifying a supervisor is a bigtime no-no. They allowed this to continue throughout the investigation. Moore was cuffed for something tonight.

It kinda looks like the Michigan case is a little more cut and dry. It doesn't seem like Smith's situation is as obvious.

Looks like Moore will spend the night in jail, per the Detroit News. Guess his Get Out of Jail Free card expired with his employment.

This is so sad.

Ruined his damn life, which is now spiraling, over some booty.

Agreed. Three young kids. His wife tracking his phone and frantically relaying location to police to prevent loss of life. Absolutely heartbreaking how self-destructive behavior can affect loved ones.

I suspect that for too many middle-age and older men, the dopamine high of a mutual flirtation with a sexy young woman is as powerful as heroin, cocaine, etc., leading to this type of destructive behavior.

Difference is public perception. Recovering from a drug problem is often looked upon with significant empathy, whereas the adult male (or, less often, female) in this sort of affair is seen as a sexual deviant.

I do hope that our fans are not honestly equating Michigan's reaction positively to ours. There is no police report regarding Brian Smith, thus no reason for the university to act with immediacy like in Michigan. They knew what was coming and tried to get slightly ahead of it despite knowing about the matter for nearly a month. They are not the bastions of truth in this scenario and their reaction does not in any way reflect poorly on ours. As this continues to stay shrouded in mystery, I actually think that the university is acting appropriately. They have not done anything to directly sour Brian's character, but rather have taken what they feel were the necessary steps while they look into a matter. If nothing comes of it, he's able to come back without a major stain from the university. If he doesn't, then they likely had accurate intelligence from the start and did their due diligence.

The police report is unrelated to his firing.

He was fired for an inappropriate relationship. And then arrested for a separate physical assault.

Full spiraling.

Michigan also set themselves up for huge legal action against the university. By not placing Moore on leave for a month while they conducted the secret investigation, they allowed the improper relationship to continue. Since a relationship with a subordinate is always the superior's fault legally, and then Moore apparently is involved with an assault yesterday, the woman can pretty much name her price at this point.

It was about the worst way to conduct such a thing.

Unless they got her to sign some sort of release at the beginning of the investigation.

That sounds even more worrisome. "We want you to waive your federal rights in case we beat Ohio State again. And our recruiting class depends on it...sign here."

I'm not seeing any information that states the university allowed this conduct to continue. The Athletic is actually reporting the opposite:

A source briefed on the decision said the school received an anonymous tip regarding the inappropriate relationship, prompting the investigation. The investigation initially did not produce evidence of the relationship, the source said, but additional evidence came to light in the last 24 hours that led to Moore’s dismissal.

To be fair, I wouldn't trust Michigan whatsoever. They have proven themselves to be shady at the very least in recent years.

I believe at least 30 days passed since the tip. The anonymous tip was crazy--won't repeat it here. Maybe it was so crazy they didn't think it was true. But published internet reports began swirling on Dec. 1 stating that Moore was going to be fired, and there were even more "shit gonna hit the fan" posts on places like football scoop, so the investigation had been proceeding for awhile. All this time the two were in the same office.

I belive the "everything changed yesterday" is a CYA Michigan-narrative in which Warde Manual will be the fall guy. Really though, one scandal after another...maybe it's an institutional thing.
