If so, I apologize. But what was the deal with the sideline interference call on CMU at the end of the first half? I admit I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to the finer points of the rules of football (which seem to change all the time), but how can a person on the sideline get in the way and that touchdown still stand? I would think the penalty for that would be way more than 10 yards (or whatever it was) tacked onto the extra point. That series of events at the end of the first half where we had our TD called back and then FG blocked and returned for a TD is still haunting me. I'll be thinking about that the rest of the season I think. What a tough break. Most of the CMU bench -- players and coaches were well across the get back line and more than a dozen were on the field. It was all excitement and not an attempt to interfere with the play. I don't think the official running down the sideline was contacted, but may have had to dodge people. I don't think it impacted the play. Even though it was during a live ball situation, this type of circumstance is considered a dead ball foul. So, the rule was correctly enforced based on what I know. BTC is a highly regarded high school official and can correct me if I'm wrong. Got it. So if a CMU coach/player/staff member made contact with one of our players during the play what would the penalty be then? Would it be a different call? Not unless the contact was either on the field of play (Illegal participation 15yd) or in the restricted zone (maybe nothing, SL warning, UNS/UNR, but a SL interference is with the team bench/coaches, etc with the official) Any contact on the sideline that is not unsporting contact would simply be nothing.
