Will definitely be a good measuring stick game! Will be the toughest test since Purdue.

Toledo is my pick to win the West. NIU is also undefeated in the West, though.

Gotta take care of business against Miami first, though!

There are several important events between now and then that will set the tone for the Ohio-Toledo game:
1. Toledo will surely beat Ball State this weekend.
2. If Ohio loses to Miami, then Ohio will have to win out, including Toledo, and will also need someone else to beat Miami.
3. The critical Toledo-NIU game will come on Thursday following the Miami-Ohio game. If Toledo loses to NIU, they will need to win out, including beating Ohio, and will also need someone else to beat NIU.
4. If Ohio beats Miami, and Toledo beats NIU, the Ohio-Toledo game is not all that important to either team as both teams will still control their destiny even with a loss. In this case, the primary importance of the game may be as a preliminary for the MACC.

Note that Toledo gets the short end of the stick for this game. Ohio plays Miami on ten days rest (Miami also gets 10 days), then plays Toledo on 8 days. Meanwhile Toledo plays Ball State this weekend on the normal seven days, then NIU on five days, and then Ohio on 6 days. If Ohio wins, and they should, the short weeks for Toledo may be the reason, and I'm not going to get too excited about it. Meanwhile, I'll be very disappointed if Ohio loses.

This is a long ways off, and now is the time to time to focus on pounding Miami.

Wow! I actually wouldn't be super disappointed if Ohio lost to Toledo.

From watching a lot of both teams, I think Toledo is the best team in the MAC ... by a landslide.

I think losing Thompson drops them a notch or so, but I'm not sure Ohio's defense can slow Toledo offense enough.

Again ... this game is still down the road.

Not sure if Miami gets healthy enough at QB to challenge Ohio next week ... but if Ragland is back, I think they present a problem for Ohio.

Let's be honest .... Kent might have worst offense in FBS history ... BGs QB missed a TON of wide open WRs in that game ... and CMU did a pretty good job picking apart the defense in the passing game.

Miami (when healthy) and Toledo present a HUGE step up in terms of a challenge to OUr pass defense.

It was great to see Ohio do what, honestly, they should have vs. Kent ... but I think the next two weeks (especially if Miami is healthy) will really tell us if this is "just another 8-4 Ohio team thanks to a dreadful schedule" or if we are indeed the class of the MAC in 2017.

I love me a good hyperbole as much as the next guy! ;-)

As I said in a previous post, that's his MO. He has real trouble hitting receivers deep. Therefore, teams adjust their defenses and "give him" that option while concentrating on the short routes where he actually has a chance of making a completion. Once in a while they'll lose that gamble, but the odds are over the whole stretch of the game, that strategy is a winner just about all of the time.

Last 4 games are a challenge. Defeated opponents list at this time is made up of bottom feeders of Div1.
Kent, BG, UMASS, Kansas, EMU are not of the same calibre as Miami, Toledo, Akron and Buffalo.
Buffalo? Yes we always lose up there!
So this years team has its work cut out for themselves. I like this group and their resolve plus our offense has the dimension of a really outstanding QB.

Agree on Buffalo. That game has all the smells of 2011 at Kent to finish the season.

All Ohio needs is a win on Black Friday to secure a spot in the MACC ... but they fall flat and get beat 28-6 by an average Kent team that was 4-7 going into the game.

Buffalo might not be 4-7 ... but it's a team that Ohio "should" beat

I don't think Miami is better than EMU.

That may very well be true, but Toledo gets the short end of the stick when it comes to scheduling. Ohio will be the third game they play in 11 days, so you have a well rested, physical Ohio team against a tired Toledo team. That gives Ohio a much better chance than normal. If they meet again in the MACC, it will be on an even amount of rest, and Toledo will be the clear favorite.

The November 8th matchup won't matter match between Ohio and Toledo. The December 2nd matchup is the one to circle.

It will matter a helluva lot if Ohio loses to Miami, Akron or Buffalo ....

Same goes for Toledo if they lose to NIU or WMU

Forgive the coach speak, but the only game that matters is October 31

+1

We play one game at time, that's just who were are. It's what we are all about.
