We're now up to 28 teams in (including Ohio) and 21 more just a win away. And who woulda thought that BYU would be eliminated before UMass? The list below shows the number of slots for each conference in brackets, the teams that are already in, the teams that are almost there because they need one win, the teams that have the best shot at making it because they're at .500 or above, and the teams that are out of the running with seven losses. The conferences account for only 68 of the bowl slots because there are six at-large slots for the New Year's Six bowls and four slots in the playoff. Teams with asterisks play only 11 games.

Big Ten and SEC might becoming up short. Ohio could get paired in the Quick Lane or Independence Bowl against an ACC team if it wins the MAC Championship. Bahamas Bowl is more a possibility if we go 8-4 and don't win the MAC East.

BTW, that sum of percentages from teamrankings is rounding back down to 79. But we still probably have 1 or 2 6-6 G5 teams staying home. Condisering that there is no bowl in our back yard and if we go 6-6 we would have lost 4 in a row there is a very realistic chance that we need one more win.

Speaking of TeamRankings, they now show Ohio with a nearly 50% chance of finishing 9-3 or better in the regular season, and an 18.3% chance of MACC. Toledo has a 40.2% chance of MACC, and NIU has a 17.9% chance. Two days after Ohio plays Miami will come the critical NIU-Toledo matchup, which may decide the winner of the West.
