Hilarious experience at the Tower Club concessions stand Saturday.

There were signs on the counter promoting "New Philly Subs - hot and fresh - baked exclusively for Tower Club members. Enjoy one during today's game!"

So we waited in line and ordered one. The student worker, a nice, polite young man, replied, "We don't have Philly subs - only hot dogs and brats."

"But your sign says you have them...and it encourages us to order one today."

"No, that's just an advertisement from Domino's. Maybe they have those subs at their stores."

"No, we're pretty sure they have them here...it says so on this sign."

"Yeah, I asked my supervisor earlier today and he told me we definitely don't have subs. You have to go to a Domino's. Maybe you can get one delivered to your home."

I went to the last concession stand on the Tower Side (closest to the hill) at the half and after reaching the front of the line I was informed they had sold out of beer.

The next concession stand up had beer. Considering we've got some outside vendor coming in and managing this, you would imagine they would have some system in place to restock when one stand gets low. From a simple customer service perspective, at least put a "sold-out" sign over the beer so I don't stand in line waiting for something you don't have.

My vote is to ax the concessions and go "tent style" with local food vendors similar to the Jackie O's tent. A bunch of food trucks around the concourse is vastly superior from an atmosphere stadnpoint to generic bagged popcorn that isn't even popped fresh.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying this? Can Buckcat speak to restrictions on "pouring rights" that Popcorn is subject to???

I got in line at the concession stand under the NE bleachers with about 2 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. Emerged with about 6 minutes to go in the second quarter. I don't know the exact amount of time I was in line but sure seemed like at least 30 minutes. That's absurd. They did briefly run out of water while I was in line but got restocked by the time I got to order. Lots of people grumbling about the wait. I'm sure it's more complex than it seems, but there really has to be significant improvement in this area. Other than that it was a good day in Peden which I got to share with my Dad and son.

As I have made all the rounds to the other MAC stadiums over the last decade, I think the ideal solution is simple. and that also solves OCF's problem of people blocking the scoreboard (a la Kent's stadium):

Knock the top off Victory Hill
Pave that flat area
Build a couple of large concession stands under the scoreboard
And voila, you have a nice, open air, excellent vantage point concession area

But what do I know. All I know is that Kent's version of that above is a damn nice amenity.

The Few, The Proud, The Bobcats!

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

I skipped out on my 2nd cold one Saturday due to that line at about the same time. I think part of the problem was that Saturday's crowd was demonstrably larger than Hampton (funny what not having a hurricane will do to attendance) so the logistical issues weren't so apparent after the first game. The other part of the problem is that the young ladies working the tent weren't super fast (**shakes fist at kids these days**). Hopefully they'll get that worked out, b/c I'd really like to pay the university more money for more frosty beverages, but I'm not gonna miss half the game for it.

If they were made by Dominos you came out ahead by them not having them.

I'm all for that idea.

Maybe I am being naive to history, but I don't recall ever hearing any great story about why Victory Hill came to be or some special tradition that makea it a piece of Peden that you just can't replace.

In fact, I would rather have that end of the stadium wide open so you could see the real "hillside" behind it. With our concessions in dire need of an upgrade to maximize gameday atmosphere, I think putting concessions in there would be the easy solution while avoiding a massive concourse renovation (which is needed)

Once the academic building is done, you may be able to put the concessions in front of that.

I went to get a gyro at that stand right at the start of the 4th qtr. They had just closed - wha? Saw other stands also closing/closed. An hour to go (typically) and stop selling? I can see per suds - but food?

Yep, they probably lose 20% or more in potential revenue at several of their events.

The part about that I don't get is that a football concession stand is only open, what, 21 hours per year (3.5 hours per game)? By closing a half hour early 6 games a year they can shave that to 19 hours. If they save a couple people for two hours per year, that saves them something like $40 for the year. That labor savings seems like it would be insignificant compared to the rent they must pay.

Now, maybe they are mandated that they must be out of the stadium by a certain time, and the only way they can accomplish that is to close early and begin cleaning and getting stuff out of there. That would explain it.

All I can say is our concessions are 100 times better than Purdue's were! Stood in line for the entire 3rd quarter of that game for a beer. Ridiculous...

This is almost exactly what I experienced Saturday.

We just can't get out of our own way in terms of gameday experience.

Funniest part of the day "Text one of these to hear one of these three songs!!!" on the scoreboard.

Flash forward about quarter ... "Okay...you texted and now you get to hear your choice! B) FILL-IN-SONG-HERE"

They then proceed to play about :04 of the song before cutting it off to get back to game action.

WHAT?!?!

Seriously....they just fumble around with all this stuff.

The sideline girl having to hold the clip-on mic to talk (after you couldn't even hear her the first time)

ZERO highlights of the actual game. What the hell is the point of the new scoreboard if we can't show highlights?!?!

No stats provided on the scoreboard.

When they put out of town scores up ... the text is so small you can't even read it.

And why are we getting Pitt/Okie State ... UM/Air Force and some other random game rather than actually MAC scores of games going on or a look at the schedule later in the day?!?!

This stuff isn't rocket science, but yet we just can't get it right.

I waited about 25 minutes in line for 2 waters .... luckily my girlfriend was in the bathroom almost equally long ... so it worked out, ha!

Holy moly that's bizarre. I chuckle now. But I woulda been a wee bit frustrated on that one.

TOTALLY AGREE.

I made the Purdue faithful chuckle with my very loud assessment that "for a University that prides itself in Engineering, you would think they would come up with something a little better.

I don't have time to find it, but I posted over a year ago that when we finally got a video board that we would then bitch about the new board. This is not even the real board, it's not fully installed and implemented with proper training. Not even to mention we do not have the production staff needed and technology yet to fully integrate the board. Give people some time and resources before you begin stoning them.

And I personally love the concept and look of the board.

TOL was represented by yellow dashes under teh team logo or score. Took me a while to locate too.
