Instead of beating the dead horse about OHIO winning (or not) the MAC Championship, lets discuss some position battles to watch during camp.

Obviously QB will be important to watch. I think Maxwell has a huge opportunity to step up and claim his spot for the next few years. This will be a fun one to watch. I think the other QB's we have brought in will provide solid competition.

What other positions are you looking forward to seeing play out during camp? I am curious to see who replaces Sebastian Smith at WR. Cherry looks like an exciting prospect but can he break in as a freshman? That remains to be seen.

What about on defense? Bradd Ellis played significant snaps down the stretch at CB for us? Can he maintain that role? Who will step up from the front 7 to break out this year?

Can't wait for the season to start!!!

A healthy offensive line will be a major key.

I worry just a tad about our depth on the o line.

TE looks really strong and I'm not too worried about some defensive line losses. We have some nice athletes ready to step up on the d line.

But, will we MACC? Inquiring minds want to know. ;-)

Seriously, I'm excited about this season, and see great possibilities for the 2017 'Cats! Go OHIO!

If you want to highlight one position group to focus on, this is it. We will go as far as the O-Line pushes.

(I'm hopeful that improved athleticism in the secondary fixes that weak point from last year...)

I agree with both of you. I see this as a very balanced team, with no weaknesses. I think that the line will be much better this year, and the offense will roll.

I went to go look at our roster on ohiobobcats.com and jeez - does this seem way off/old to anyone else? http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/fball/2017-18/roster?so...

Joe Lowery a Freshman? No Nathan Rourke? Elijah Ball a Freshman? Cope a RS Junior?

What keeps me up at night is offensive line depth. I feel really good about the left side of the line but I'm not sure what depth there is. I say this based somewhat on an incomplete roster.
I'm also curious to see what type of pass rush this group can generate. I'm looking forward to some of the younger defensive linemen joining the rotation.

I noticed Zervos wasn't on there either even though they have him featured on the main page.....

The roster at Ohiobobcats.com is AFU. They are obviously moving to a new web page design, which I hope will be done by Fall camp.

The depth chart at ourlads.com shows the following as the backups:
LT - Trotter Rs Freshman
LG - Nick Sink Rs Freshman
C - Notestine Rs Freshamn
RG - Grimes Rs Sophomore
RT - Kuhar Rs Junior

That's an exceptionally young group of backups, so let's hope that none of the starters gets a serious injury. The flipside, though is this: If these redshirt Freshmen are good enough to leapfrog the other linemen on the Roster, they have to be pretty good now, and next year they will be even better. The above may be looking at the core of the offensive line for the next few years (if the 2017 recruits don't pass them).

They are young but they can play. Watching them this spring made me feel optimistic that the O line will be alright barring a rash of injuries. Trotter I didn't see much of, but Sink and Notestine looked explosive and play with that edge that you love your interior linemen to have. I also didn't see Grimes much but Kuhar also looks like he's ready to play.
