Sorry, should have put this in "football".
I don't know how to move it.

Well,semi OT.

There's an article in today's The Record (northjersey.com) about the B1G relaxing their rules on scheduling FCS games.

The B1G had prohibited teams from scheduling FCS games.

Now,in those seasons where a team only has 4 home conference games they can have a home FCS game.

Remains to be seen how many teams take advantage of this.

Sounds like Rutgers and other "weaker " teams will.

This could affect B1G's trying to schedule other FBS teams.

Just a quick note. In browsing through Phil Steele, I see that ALL SEC teams have an FCS team on the schedule.

As I said in my original post, thanks for moving it by the way,it seems like the weaker teams in the B1G may do this, especially since I believe 1 FCS win counts for being bowl eligible.

From what I've read,an FCS win does nothing as far as being in the hunt for the National Championship so I would think would discourage some schools from scheduling an FCS team.

On the other hand,Rutgers is so desperate to be bowl eligible again they'd schedule a high school if they could.

Certain schools I don't really fault them for doing this. They will rarely compete for a division title/trip to the Big 10 Championship game so getting to a bowl (even a low tier) is probably a more realistic thing to aim for.

The teams that I wouldn't gripe about:

Illinois
Indiana
Purdue
Maryland
Rutgers

Teams that probably will, but shouldn't:

Iowa
Michigan State
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern

Teams that have no business:

Michigan
TOSU
Penn State
Wisconsin
*Michigan State I think could be put here, too. I know they were down last year but they've had arguably one of if not the best 5 or so year run in program history going prior to the 2016 season.

I have no problem with premiere programs playing one game against an FCS schedule so long as they have at least ONE prominent non-conference game scheduled. For example, Alabama opens with Florida State - tough game - and has Mercer the week before the Iron Bowl in November.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!
