Windham has been a real enigma to me. On some pass plays, particular deep passes, he seems to be very good and usually quite accurate. On plays that appear to be more timing type short and medium range passes he seems often wildly inaccurate. He also seems to often throw the ball with too much velocity when it's not necessary on short passes which leads to a lot of dropped passes by the receivers when he is accurate enough to get the ball to them. My question is, are these observations accurate? And, also, why do you think he is so erratic? How much does poor play by the OL figure in here? What I'm really after is just an analysis of Windham's strengths and weaknesses as well as how the play of the rest of the offense figures into this analysis. Thanks.

OCF, you and I and anyone who has watched football for 50 years knows the answer. You are correct. GW can be very good and/or very bad. That is called inconsistent and erratic. It can also be termed the inability to EXECUTE consistently. Every play is designed to be successful. Only those that are EXECUTED flawlessly are successful. That means throwing the ball to the right receiver, with touch when needed, or with velocity. Then, someone has to catch the ball.

I would simply say he has not been consistent. Certainly POOR O-line play didn't make his job any easier tonight! Maybe that's why we need someone like the JC QB who is coming in!! He will feel right at home with our OL.

pretty spot on. Windham came here with talent that needed to be fine tuned. Windham got into trouble early on in his career, his all world receiver buddy from high school never made it to Athens. In spot duty over the last few years, he hast been a boom or bust QB that completes about 50% of his passes. He does not have a high football IQ, so he is prone to making mistakes. This however, does not negate his talent. He can throw the ball downfield if given time, he can run, when given space. His lack of efficiency and confidence is what has led to some of his marginal performances.
I remember him coming in at the end of the Appalachian State game, he was trying to get himself hype, he was trying to act as if he was not nervous and he dropped a perfect snap (uhoh) and then threw a screen play for over 40 yards. GW never built up his confidence to be an All-MAC QB. He had talent and he hung in and finished a turbulent career at ohio university. I hope he has wonderful success in the business world and comes back to Ohio from time to time. He should be proud that he won the QB position twice in his senior year.

If being so consistent and great was as easy as some of you make it sound Peyton Manning would just be average.

You can be a consistent college QB and not be Peyton Manning. There have been plenty of great and consistent college QBs who have never reached Peyton's level.

I'm laughing at all the posters who want the next TT, however we could go back on the threads and many of you complained about him.

I agree.

To answer OCF's question, I remember a guy named Bobby Douglas, who was a QB for Kansas, and then the Bears. He had great velocity, and could throw the ball 80 yards. Unfortunately, on short passes he threw the same way. Some QBs can throw with velocity. Some can throw with touch. When you have one that can do both, you may have a very good QB, but not all players ever learn to do both.

Guys, again this is not rocket science. " Nobody said GW had to be Peyton Manning. What I tell kids that I coach is "make the simple play all the time". Then, when the occasion arises worry about making a great play. Too many times, GW did not make the pass that was easy and simple. Seems too often to be high and hard on short passes. Much better on the long balls with some touch though!Kind

In the last 12 years, save for when TT was good, we've seen very little good quarterbacking....but so many not-partic-good qb's have ripped us (see the last two bowl games).

Our D was good this year...and, yet, 8-6 ??!!

Yeah, and what is simple to one athlete is not necessarily easy to another. You sound like the guy who yells block them, yet with no clue of what actually goes into the "blocking them"

I'm sure I'm on an island on this one but I thought our defense for the year overall was a bit overrated. Front 7 were very very good at times but far too often it seemed like the defense couldn't get off the field or make a stop on 3rd down. And the defensive backfield was a work in progress at best, although it did improve as the year went on.

To me a very good defense doesn't give up 56 points to a one-win Texas State team.

I agree with you on that one, we should not have lost to Texas....However, the defense in the beginning was not the defense in the end. I thought they stepped up. Yes we lost, but not by more than 10 points. We never capitalized on our possessions, and we were pretty much held to a game of field goals....

Billy, if you think most of the passes that he missed were difficult you don't know how to watch a football game. Many of the passes he missed 90% of QBs would've completed. On the other hand he completed some very difficult passes. That is why many consider him so inconsistent.

No, I just think your statement implies that anyone can do that job, it's an overly simplistic look at the situation. What may look easy for you from a barstool isn't quite as easy when bodies begin flying around.
