But who should they be upset with? On the football side of things we have just finished the season with a MAC East title, lost MACC, invite to a bowl game and a loss in the game. That triggers the cry of Fire Frank - in one form or another - "time to go" - "I like Frank, but..." soften it as one wishes, it translates to get rid of Frank. But even the most ardent supporters of the "Time to go" movement acknowledge that Frank is not going anywhere - unless he wants to retire. Which does not appear to be the case. So most lower their anger to Albin. Fire Albin!! But with Frank approaching lame duck status, most also acknowledge that Albin is not going anywhere. Which means the only way Frank would go is if Schaus were to fire him. But Schaus has shown no sign of that (look how long it took him to move on in baseball). Schaus simply does not have the intention, guts or balls to pull the trigger. Pick your reason, it is not going to happen. Be upset at the body of work over the past 4, 6 or 11 years - Reality is Schaus is why Frank is here...and remains here. On the basketball side of things the Bobcats have already played themselves out of an at-large opportunity. Some posters are starting to say that Saul must start winning NOW. Schaus hired Christian and that turned out to be short-term. All agree Saul is a nice guy, but many cite he has not shown he can recruit "THE" guy, and has not won anything yet. So who oversees these two programs and coaches? Who can not pull the trigger on one and may have missed twice on the basketball side? Everyone gets all antsy when Schaus' name comes up for another job. Should we? Maybe the next time someone else comes calling we give them our blessing. Maybe when we get a new President, he/she will have a more aggressive stance on athletics. Maybe if we ever want to move up the ladder in athletics, we need to move on from what we have now. Folks can be upset at the coaches, but that is like being upset at the Sales director, maybe it is the CEO. Or maybe we are not the company some think we are or should be. Being upset at Frank, Albin, Saul is easy. Isn't Ohio University an institution of HIGHER LEARNING? In all reality we are irrelevant and not even in the conversation when it comes to major college FB. I think many are more concerned about OHIO's academic profile and how it is viewed academically by employers as opposed to it's athletics. I hope the new President is too given the recent drops in OUr profile. I am also sure the thousands of students that graduate each year are much more concerned about employers view OHIO and them than they are football going 8-6 and to a DG Bowl. The next two year budget by Ohio will be very interesting and could really sting, new President very well see athletics as a place to cut. Time will tell. I want a president who emphasizes academics (duh, it's a freaking university) and who understands the incredible value of a successful athletics program. That president will go get the money for both. If we're to going to "blame" Schaus for hoops and football (and I sure don't-he's the best AD Ohio's had in eons), then conversely we have to credit him for the successes in other sports, i.e. Women's basketball, Women's volleyball, Men's baseball in 2015, etc. I pretty much only focus on Men's football and basketball as that's where my own interest lie, but even I have to admit that there's more than 2 sports in Ohio athletics. :) And remember, when Schaus took over Ohio athletics was really running in the red financially as I recall. It doesn't anymore. I do believe we have to take 0s in a number of sports we do not sponsor, no? Akron and Kent quietly do quite well in the olympic sports. Kind of surprising that Miami is so low but they only offer 6 men's teams that actually compete in the MAC. Their commitment to hockey spreads them pretty thin in other areas. Not to downplay any of our student athletes nor their teams but how many of you on here are primarily interested in the success of football and men's basketball? I would cheer for OU in tidily winks but I can't honestly say I follow the results/growth/news of any teams other than football and men's basketball with any regularity. But I want the very best in terms of everything for all teams wearing green and white. I do what I can to provide financial support but I don't have a T. Rod McDavis has been a great supporter, and we're losing him. One can hope the successor understands the value athletics provides, but you never know. Schaus stays at least partly because the support from the president is high. If we lost him too, especially with the presidential search in the air, things could take a turn for the worse. Oh, and the Pittsburgh job is open again. Argh. Maybe that should be in the 'time to panic' thread. If folks feel Frank has been kept on too long (as many do)- that is o....n Schaus. If folks feel Saul is a good guy, but perhaps not the THE guy - such a conclusion will be a reflection on Schaus. No question he has improved funding and facilities (as Kirby did). And other sports have thrived. But at the end of the day, football and basketball are king. Success, or lack thereof, will be judged (subjectively as "success" as we all know is ambiguous). And the AD, like the coaches will be judged. Personally, I think Schaus' handling of Frank is a reflection of the ethos of the university and Ohio athletics - which I never judged - but personally feel are part of what makes Ohio...Ohio...OU....Oh Yea.
