I just realized Ohio hasn't had a losing season in football since we went 4-8 my freshman year at Ohio back in 2008. I'm curious, what is the longest Ohio has ever gone without a losing season?

I've seen crazier things happen.

19 years non-losing seasons is the record. Most consecutive winning seasons is 9

Both established by Coach Peden.

What are the records since WWII?

Unofficially since WWII, years without a losing season.

Solich 09-16, 8 seasons
Hess 58-64, 7 seasons
Wise/Widdoes 49-55, 7 seasons
Hess 66-69, 4 seasons
Hess 73-76, 4 seasons (includes two 5-5 seasons)

Next it would be interesting to know if since WWII has Ohio had a twelve season run to match Solich's .567?

Not in my opinion. Let us see what the next twelve season's bring.

Let me save you the trouble. If it's Frank until he's 84....

88-72
0-4 MACC
2-10 bowls

And you'll be thrilled!

How about since 1992? This gives us a bigger moral victory. We are top 5 MAC team, what's not to love?

Not sure where you get the 88-72????

Twelve years before Solich: 48-86, 0-0 MACC, 0-0 bowls. So your best prediction is given 2016 as a start Solich will finish the next twelve the same as having begun the last twelve after 2004. Ohio in 2016 is not your uncle's Ohio from 2004.

Great one!

Can't wait for Bcat2 to respond about how it's better with Solich and staff than it was when we were the worst team ever during the 17 wins in 11 years era. Love that standard of 'this is better than the worst.'

Oh. Wait. Bcat2 already responded that way.

What a surprise.

Let me break this down for you.

12 years....13 games a year (a bowl each year cause we're always bowl eligible with this garbage scheduling)....plus 4 MACC games

That's 160 games.

Solich has a sterling .567 win percentage.

That's 88 wins...68 losses....add in 4 MACC game losses

88-72.

Is that slow enough for you? Do you need pictures to help explain it better?

Get you party hats ready to celebrate above average football!

And no s**t Ohio 2016 isn't Ohio 2004.

But then again Ohio 2016 is Ohio 2015...Ohio 2014...Ohio 2013...Ohio 2012...Ohio 2011...etc.

An at least 4-loss football team...every year for 12 years running.

Let's not change a thing.

Time to go make the donuts.

Fear of the future is not a valid reason for sticking with a currently unsatisfactory situation.

That is such tired, sad, dreadful thinking to go 'well, it could be worse.'

I don't know, but I'd love to find out.

Wouldn't you say Ohio basketball benefitted from cutting ties with Larry Hunter after a similar run of above average basketball?

O'Shea & Groce each went to NCAAs...Christian won a MAC regular season title. Saul appears primed to do good things.

Ohio could have just said, f**k it...Larry goes 19-12 every year...we're always in top half of MAC...why change.

Isn't that essentially where football is right now after 12 years of Solich?

Why not try something different and strive to win championships instead of accepting above averageness?

This is hard to argue with, great points. I can deal with FS, if he address his coordinator and position coach deficiencies. He did a great job this year getting a team with an average to below average QB and a depleted defensive and offensive backfield. He has to address our scoring issues and the lack of defensive athletes to help us defend spread offenses. Loyalty and the reassurance of mediocre supporters will be his downfall. he has to address these issues.

Agree with you Allen, well stated. FS did do a good job dealing with the issues you pointed out, but at the end of the day he needs to deal with the root of the problem. If he does that I would have a lot better feeling going forward. Otherwise, I just see more of the same and if that happens, perhaps it is time for all involved to move on.

This is a very interesting exercise/thought experiment. Hunter and O'Shea both had good runs at Ohio, with winning percentages comparable to Solich (Hunter was .580 in 12 season, O'Shea was .558 in 7 seasons, Solich is .568 in 12 seasons). All three had/have just 2 losing seasons during their respective tenures.

No one was too upset to see Hunter fired or O'Shea leave. But this board would tear itself apart if Solich was fired.

Don't think that's exactly right.

2,000 of his closet relatives in Athens County stopped attending games and there was an immediate drop off in attendance, which has never really gotten back to where it was. Some people were extremely angry and OHIO has suffered as a result. [Note I'm not saying that it was the right or wrong decision -- just that there were many who felt betrayed by the firing of a local boy.]
