Diversion program and have to return their share of the robbery proceeds, then Felony 1 charges will be dropped.

Did anyone think that the "dealers" were going to testify in this case? Not surprised at the outcome.

I'd have to think long and hard about allowing them back on the team, but we do have a felon on it now so you never know.

They need a year off from football, minimum, and loss of scholarship. The Windham situation set the precedent. If they can earn their way back on, great for them, but they should have to take the long road.

So let me get this straight. You force your way into an apartment armed with brass knuckles and a broom stick, you threaten the occupants with their life, you steal from them and when caught, the prosecutor says no problem. Do 150 hours of community service starting at a local school tomorrow, forfeit your share of what you stole, we'll let you keep your car but pay $1200, and after that, you're a free man and nothing ever happened. Justice in Athens County.

Here's the thing...if this happened in Tuscaloosa or Columbus, everybody would be saying the football players were getting off because of who they are. I'm not saying that's what happened, but if we were a bigger place, that certainly would be the perception. Three kids were being held, had a $50,000 bond, were being charged with serious felonies, and in less than a week, the charges are dropped/reduced. There's likely much more to this story, but it certainly smells fishy.

If they are welcomed back to the team, I think it's fair to expect an explanation from the AD and coach.

This does sound fishy. It would be interesting to find out how the parents and their lawyers got involved in the case. Seems like they are getting more lenient treatment than other players in the past who migh have come from less affluent backgrounds than some of the present perps. The law should be no respecter of persons.

I had felony theft committed against me and the guy got off with less than what this seems to be and I wanted more for the guy, but I'm not a drug dealer either. Circumstances need to be taken into account, and I'm not privy to all the facts in this case and I doubt anybody on here is either.

What level of felony? And were the circumstances "aggravated", because we know that was exactly what the prosecutor charged these people with, 1st degree felony. The prosecution even stated that again when talking about the other defendant, aggravated with the threat of killing the occupants in the apartment.

yes no drug dealer is going to go to the police and say I got robbed. Something probably occurred and the DA did not have a strong enough case to proceed, so he took the easy win. The DA's future rest on his win and lost record, so they have to make deals. This was not Steve Hookfin that they were giving back, so lets wait for the facts. They probably should and will lose their schollies if any of this is true

Hey, it wasn't the same as this situation, but I'm just saying that the DA has wide lattitude when figuring out how he/she prosecutes crimes. Why are folks so intent in making a bigger case out of this than a prosecutor wants to? What's the point? Move on.

Can anyone read the actual reports and news articles? The officers caught them red-handed. They were on premise when the event occurred. These guys (one right now) just got a sweetheart deal. The question some have is why?

A long time ago I sat in court waiting to argue a reckless operation ticket (I was right, but lost anyway) and watched two young kids get basically the same fine as me plus community service after being caught with a rather large amount of marijuana. So I called a lawyer I know to complain. He guessed that those two kids had a good lawyer, no previous record, and some information the prosecutor wanted. He then told me if I ever was arrested to lawyer up and never say a word. Else that good lawyer won't be able to do anything.
