He may have been pissed when Clawson didn't keep him on staff: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/wake-forest-radio-annou...

Gives one pause to how we lost to Texas State...

Then one considers the Albin offense and the liklihood of previously unused plays.

There are at least three variations of SomebodyUTM plays. Come on, give the man a little credit! ;-)

The scandal isn't going away, it is only going deeper. A former Wake Forest player, who is now an announcer supplies info to opposing teams? At first it seemed like something from the theater of the absurd. The more that comes out, the less people are laughing. Some programs were contacted and did nothing, or so they claimed. As a couple of these links point out, how could this have been going on for more than one season and none of this come to light until now?

I agree. If he offered info to all these other teams, surely at least one of them would have been honest enough to call the Wake Forest coach or AD.

It's also disconcerting that if one team hadn't been sloppy and left diagrams of unused plays behind, this whole thing might never have been uncovered. NCAA is considering fines against teams involved -- possibly including those who turned down the assistance -- and Army is investigating whether any internal rules were violated. This isn't over by a long shot.

Seems to be some naive here.

Think of the ever-mounting (follow the $$$$$$$) pressure to win. Then think of the corruption that seems to always attach to sports (basketball point fixing etc, football spying on practices, baseball stealing signals via spyglasses, etc).

Monroe, not sure what you mean by naive. Wake Forest is hardly a powerhouse program, even though they are in the ACC. It isn't like Eli Gold, the Alabama announcer (I think he still announces the Crimson Tide games) is telling the opposing team what Nick Saban is thinking. It is a disgruntled former player and assistant coach who didn't get an assistant's position when the former BG coach Dave Clawson came to town. Coach Clawson made sure he got the announcing job and the thanks he got was being stabbed in the back. By turning in this guy, other teams would have been doing themselves a favor. Now any team that played Wake Forest in the last couple of years is fairly or unfairly under the cloud of suspicion.

Plus at least one of the schools involved -- Army -- is supposed to be above all that. Sure there have been cheating scandals at Army, but that involved 18/19-year-olds cheating on tests. This involves the older and supposedly wiser staff. The L'ville OC only got suspended for a game; someone at Army will likely lose their job.

cbus, it's sad but true. Too much human nature tends toward revenge. Combine that with the further motivation (by initiator of the bad acts or those who choose to participate in them, benefit from them) of HUGE DOLLARS...and you can see why it's somewhat naive to be shocked by these type of incidents.

Sadly, they've long happened and will continue to.

Oops to the cash pouring out of the FedEx envelope--wasn't that a fairly recent college hoops recruiting scandal?

Nixon was an absolute lock to win the election. But he had to direct the Watergate break-in.

It never ends.

Monroe, I see what you are saying, but common sense has to prevail. I realize we live in a fallen world, but even if someone is a mean old or even young nefarious bastard, they have to use common sense otherwise they never will make it. The Wake Forest announcer/disgruntled former assistant coach will never coach again. The same goes for the Nixon example you gave. Though the late President had nothing to do with the initial Watergate break-in, he hired shady characters like Howard Hunt (who seems to have come up the idea for the break in and never told Nixon.) I am sure Nixon thought a character like Hunt would come in handy down the road. Yet, it cost him the presidency. Of all things, it is common sense that is in short supply.
