Mack Brown did an absolutely horrible job on the telecast. He's total cliche coachspeak and states the obvious almost every time that he opens his mouth.

Does the MAC have any leverage with ESPN to get one of its top announcers for the MAC title game?

That was a really good game last night and it deserved a color guy who could provide insight and criticize upon occasion, if needed. That game was worthy of ESPN's top guys and would have been a much better telecast in that case.

Instead, Mack Brown praises absolutely everything. He'd be pretty bad for a typical small home town, home team announcer.

How much better Russ and Rob are than Mack Brown cannot be put in words.

I like Mac Brown. If you listen carefully, he actually explains from a coach's perspective what's happening on the field, and why certain calls were made. However, if you are not into learning new things about the game, and just want to stay in a state of relative ignorance, you can just mute the TV when he speaks.

My son was not with us at the game but watched it on ESPN. He said the announcers did a good job, and specifically lauded the job that Mac Brown did. Perhaps, you're prejudice against his southern accent?

He had 3 or 4 insights--nothing that any other color person wouldn't have done.

Otherwise, total cliche and coachspeak.

Try this. My critique is not anything against OHIO or Solich or the South.

It's merely a comment about 1) a really lousy color analyst 2) assigned to the MAC's premier football event.

Sure, ESPN's announcers want some off time. But to put such weakness on the MAC's title game---awful.

Just that Brown was high on Ohio, players and staff.

So now Monroe, who never played the game, has the insight to say Mack Brown, who coached college ball for many years, says Mack Brown did a lousy job on our game. Mack's resume includes:

1978 Memphis State (WR)
1979 Iowa State (WR)
1980–1981 Iowa State (OC)
1982 LSU (QB)
1983 Appalachian State
1984 Oklahoma (OC)
1985–1987 Tulane
1988–1997 North Carolina
1998–2013 Texas
Administrative career (AD unless noted)
1985–1988 Tulane
Head coaching record
Overall 244–122
Bowls 13–8
Accomplishments and honors
Championships
1 National (2005)
2 Big 12 (2005, 2009)
6 Big 12 South Division (1999, 2001–2002, 2005, 2008–2009)

and Monroe's is a blank piece of paper.

I imagine in part the fact Mack made some positive comments about Frank may have infuriated Monroe .. just a hunch.

Anyone who speaks in a positive light about Frank and/or our team is clearly a know-nothing per our esteemed expert.

I don't agree with Monroe's regular Solich-bashing, but I do completely agree with him about the ESPN broadcast on Friday. Molly McGrath is a pro, and I had no problem with her sideline work, but I thought Adam Amin and Mack Brown were both below average. My wife even complained about them (which is incredibly rare).

Seeing people say they liked Brown makes me think they just relish the chance to disagree with Monroe, or different strokes for different folks. Regardless, for those like Monroe and I, I'd suggest what I did after halftime, pick your favorite smartphone iHeartRadio/Tunein Radio type app and tune to Power 105. Listening to Russ and Rob for the 2nd half made the game much more enjoyable, and doing it on my phone made it a snap to sync up the audio with the video.

For the record, I liked Mac Brown as a commentator before I knew Monroe didn't like him. But, I'm not surprised that we disagree on what makes a good announcer. Now, again, I was at the game, so I didn't hear this particular game's comments by Brown, but if it was up to his usual standards, I'm sure he actually explained a few things about the game for those with interest in learning. I remember earlier in the season comparing Brown to Bill Curry, who was about my all-time favorite college football announcer because he always tried to teach his audience things about the game. He stayed focused on the game, and didn't wander off and talk about meaningless crap like so many of the announcers do today.

Again, it's okay to hate me. But do try to analyze certain things without reference to that.

My dis-taste for Mack Brown's work at the MACC had nothing to do with OHIO.

Quite the opposite; we played a helluva lot better than his work.

One of the announcers early on said 'Rockets' when WMU had the ball--don't recall if it was Brown.

I don't know who ESPN should have used. Someone who is not horrible. His one insight that I recall is that he said to follow the TE to see if a play is a pass or run. Okay but the rest was cliches and coachspeak.

We all know what a splendid announcer sounds like. Mack Brown is the opposite of that.

If you think putting him on the MACC game shows respect for the MAC, well, listen to the game again. Then listen to national telecast of a P5 game. The MAC is, apparently, pretty much considered minor league.

Michael Reghi, partly for his fun quirks, is a LOT better than Mack Brown.

Please put your hate for me aside as you do this analysis.

First, yes we are minor league relatively speaking. We're going to get the lesser names than those doing ACC, SEC, etc.

Please don't compare Reghi to Brown. Apples to oranges. Why compare a play by play guy to a color commentator?

Mack Brown grew up in Cookeville TN when the population was less than 8,000.

Do you really expect him NOT to sound like a small town guy? It's what he is.

I thought Mac Brown and the crew did well. Honestly not sure what Monroe is upset about.

Also, the MAC is lucky ESPN continues to give us a Friday night slot.

The MAC has zero leverage here.

We should be happy for the exposure, that we got a solid crew, and that I didn't hear a "u" after Ohio all night.

Also, Mac Brown praised Solich and Ohio the next day on College Football Live on ESPN. Said Solich had the teamed prepared well and almost got the upset. Didn't need to be said. Mac Brown is OK by me.

When you are trying to get a coach fired you really don't like another, very well-respected, coach telling the world how good your coach is. You accuse him of inane coachspeak. That's just what you do! ;-)

I've forgotten more about Division I football than you or Monroe might ever know. But keep firing away with your defensive verbal shots that further expose your lack of knowledge of college football. It's fun for me.

So now Monroe, who never played the game, has the insight to say Mack Brown, who coached college ball for many years, says Mack Brown did a lousy job on our game. Mack's resume includes:

1978 Memphis State (WR)
1979 Iowa State (WR)
1980–1981 Iowa State (OC)
1982 LSU (QB)
1983 Appalachian State
1984 Oklahoma (OC)
1985–1987 Tulane
1988–1997 North Carolina
1998–2013 Texas
Administrative career (AD unless noted)
1985–1988 Tulane
Head coaching record
Overall 244–122
Bowls 13–8
Accomplishments and honors
Championships
1 National (2005)
2 Big 12 (2005, 2009)
6 Big 12 South Division (1999, 2001–2002, 2005, 2008–2009)

and Monroe's is a blank piece of paper.

I imagine in part the fact Mack made some positive comments about Frank may have infuriated Monroe .. just a hunch.

Since you're so quick to share Mack Brown's resume and Monroe's ... Do us a favor and post your resume.

What went over your head? The comparison of football resumes? Unlike Monroe I played the game and have coached kids. And I imagine Mack Brown has forgotten more about football than many here will ever know.

I would just enjoy reading your extensive football resume. Not questioning Mack Brown or Monroe's resume, just wanted to see a similar rundown of your vast football experience

Are you like Monroe? Never played (or coached) the game? I have no desire to further elaborate on my credentials ... I have no interest in that. Suffice it to say .. been there (coached) and done that (won at my level). How about you?
