Sitting in front of us this morning was a young family. Dad is a State Patrolman, mom a Nurse Practitioner. They have two great young boys. One boy's shirt read as follows, "Winning Isn't Everything, Wanting to Win Is." I like that. By the way, I don't believe in individual trophies, at all. Oh, has anyone else noticed the higher you go from local area to state to national championship competitions the smaller the awards become?

So if we lose Friday do you feel the players should receive rings?

Not a believer in individual trophies. There are individual awards that are keepers. Medals for high placing in individual sports like track. Rings, honestly, not a fan for amateur sports. I think such things are over the top. JMHO. Sometimes we can learn from the kids. Years ago, at my morning oh dark thirty workout, I would run into a high school wrestler who was a real warrior. Kid was a state winner from freshman on. School coat was like a Christmas tree. One morning he showed up with just one medal on the coat, smaller than any he used to wear so proudly. Turns out it was a gold from a national tournament, so all the rest came off in favor of this new smaller than all the rest award.

So, I'll ask the question again, you feel no rings for the football team?

Was I unclear when I wrote the following? "Rings, honestly, not a fan for amateur sports. I think such things are over the top." Right up there with million dollar salaries for college football coaches.

As I read it, what you are asking is, should there be rings for "Mac East Champions"? What is customary these days?

Yes, and for some reason, he fails to answer yes or no.

And "what is customary?", every Bowl team And MACC participant has gotten rings, so yes its customary, my question is does BCat think it's a boon to recruiting to say we won't buy rings unless you win at a National level. He'd be very unpopular with an awful lot of players.

Championship rings are not individual trophies. They are a small token that represent the Easts division champs which is a team award. That's why everyone on the team gets one. Because it's a collective team award.

Everyone gets one, and Bcat says that's not right. I have no problem with it, just want to hear him tell the team and recruits they wouldn't deserve rings for going Bowling.

Billy trying to put me in a corner. Billy you asked for how I feel, you got it. Now you need to understand that I would not let my issues on trophies or rings get in the way of Ohio athletes receiving "customary" recognition, be it trophies or rings. Billy, over the years I have presented more trophies, plaques and medals than I can count. Most of the trophies I absolutely consider over the top, but, damn, the effect is worth it. Ohio's athletes deserve what is customary and I have no problem if that is a ring or a trophy. Back a few decades I donated an expansion of trophy cases to our local high school.

Not trying to put you in a corner, simply asked you a yes or no question based off your comments, a question which you've still answered on both sides of the fence. All I asked for was your opinion on wether or not OHIO players should get individual rings based on your beliefs/standards.

And trophies that fill a trophy case at a High School is a team trophy, not each player gets one, so apples to oranges here.

The absolute best at avoiding a simple answer. Bcat2 is the King. Deserves a ring or trophy for that
