Never one with less than four losses.

Fact.

Now, you bring the hateheat and tell why this is satisfactory since better than when we were the worst team ever for a few decades.

I'll use what you posted on another thread ..... "Is a point being made here"?

I looked back 50 years and it appears we had one season with less than 4 losses. Maybe you missed the fact that team no longer play just 10 games per year. It's usually 12 or 13. So the chance for more losses than in years past increases. Sign up for a refresher Stats class.

mid-70'sbobcat, you are trying to educate a completely lost cause. Save your energy, and get to Athens next week to help the Bobcats bring the East Championship to Peden. Our kids and staff will need all the support we can muster to get it done. There is no doubt that Akron will have a few B.A's rooting for the Zips, but we can overcome them too ! Go Bobcats, beat the Zips !

Yet somehow our "peers" have been able to do it. Multiple times. Every MAC team is a peer. There are no elite teams in this conference that Ohio shouldn't be able to hang with 12 years in.

NIU (5 times)
Toledo (2 times)
Ball State (2 times)
Kent State (1 time)
CMU (1 time)
WMU (presuming they don't lose the rest of their games, 1 time)

It's not a very good indicator since MAC teams are usually already at a disadvantage on losses because of the non-conference schedule.

I'm more interested in MAC losses. Now 22-17 in MAC play since 2012.

mid70s--Thank you for using some of the worst football ever as a standard.

So, whenever it is that we hire our next coach, we'll be happy to hire someone with a history of not being remarkably bad.

Very fine call.

I'm a Reds fan, and I'll take Brian Price any day over Dusty. Dusty had just a little bit better roster to work with than Price.

NCAA Football coaches have 100% control over their roster. Not having all the pieces to work with is a symptom of not being able to acquire all the pieces you need. There is no coincidence that many of the best football coaches are also the best recruiters. Urban Meyer is the gold standard for this.

So stay with proven no-MACC for ever...out of fear of it could be worse?

That doesn't work in sports or business or relationships...or pretty much anywhere.

Coaches are responsible for what's on their roster? What kind of notion is this!

Anyone who thinks Ohio isn't better now than it was in the late 80's-early 90's is an idiot and isn't worth wasting a single second trying to explain why. Winning divisions and getting to bowl games like Ohio has done was unthinkable then as winning just a single game or two was a major hurdle. There were times back then I would have given my left nut to have the type of success now.

yes...that is factually correct.

But seriously....have we improved any in the last 5-7 years? I'd go as far as saying we've regressed in the last 4 overall?

I know it sounds like spoiled brats to "complain" about things now....but the dreadfulness of the mid-90's and early 2000s are 15-20 years old.

Do you really think this program is on the upswing right now? Can you seriously answer that with a definitive YES.

Bowl games are great. Making MAC championships is great (let's pray like the hell that happens on Tuesday).....but I just don't believe what I see on the field is better than what I saw in 2010, 2011 or 2012....I was super-excited about the path we were on then. But it's been a decline into a flatline the last 5 seasons.

Is it better than the 80's & 90's......HELLS YES.

Can it be better.....HELLS YES.

For some of us that wish for that....doesn't make us ungrateful....just hungry

Not losing to Texas State.

Not losing at home to EMU.

Not losing to a 5-5 team on a 3-game losing streak with the division title on the line.

Not getting dump-trucked by at least 4 TDs in three straight MAC games a year ago.

Not getting beat by at least 18 in four out of five MAC games in 2014.

Not playing for a MAC title since 2011.

Not going 4-4 or 5-3 in the MAC 5 straight years.

Is that enough to get the conversation started...

Fine. But to me, that's not a hell of a lot better. We're still in the race for a MACC. A play one way or the other last night could've easily changed the outcome. If that happened, your take today would be different. That's a pretty slim difference.

No.

That's a record of pretty dismal achievement over the last 4-5 years in a weak conference. 11+ years.

Slim loss is still classified by most people as a loss, if I'm not mistaken.

That may have been the title of the thread but as usual Monroe comes up with some odd statistic (4 losses) that is not correlated today with what it meant 30 or 40 or more years ago. Monroe has his biased criteria as to what define success. Obviously no one in Ohio Administration, from McDavis to Schaus, agrees with him.

Yeah we had some horrible years under Lichty, Cleve etc. But that is the reality. Remember it was YOU who decided to ID 4 losses as some significant issue (not me).

mid70s--You have it going! You are totally making the case that Solich and staff are terrific, nowhere near mediocre in the weak MAC.

I reach thru screen and high five you.

Where did I say they were 'terrific'? I implied that they are the best we've seen in Athens in 40 years or so. A 60% winning percentage is not mediocre in anyone's book (other than perhaps yours).

How is some of this crap being talked about before the season is even over??? Ohio could still win the MACC and a bowl people! Damn man, some of you need to get a grip. People are talking like the season ended last night and that Ohio finished 5-7 and the season is over with no bowl or MACC bid. If you want to bitch about failure or falling short, at least frickin' wait until it actually happens before you look foolish if it doesn't. It's that kind of attitude that makes it hard to stomach the thought of those same people glowing if Ohio were to win the MACC, as if they were behind the team and program the whole time, when in reality they were doing nothing but complaining and whining the entire time. No fan is owed a MAC Championship. Your team needs to win the division then win the MACC. It's earned, on the field. So for crying out loud, enjoy the opportunity to still get to play for one while it exists and stop moaning and complaining like it's over when it's not. You could likely see one team that hasn't won a MACC since 1968 playing another that hasn't won one since 1988. It would be a great scenario.
