This week six more teams became bowl eligible, so there are now 64 total. There are 19 other teams that have either five or six losses, so technically there are 83 teams still alive for the 80 bowl slots. But because it's the last week of the regular season for most conferences, nearly all those teams are 5-6, and one is 4-6 with two games left.

Here's the bowl picture by conference (does not include the six at large bids):

AAC (7 bowls): 7 in – USF, Houston, Tulsa, Temps, Navy, Memphis, UCF; 1 other – SMU (5-6); 8 total

ACC/ND (12 bowls): 9 in – Clemson, L'ville, UNC, VaTech, Wake, FSU, Pitt, GaTech, MiamiF; 2 others – NCSt (5-6), BC (5-6); 11 total

Big 12 (7 bowls): 5 in – Baylor, WVU, Okla St, Okla, KState; 2 others – TCU (5-5), Tex (5-6); 7 total

Big 10 (8 bowls): 7 in – Mich, O$U, Neb, PSU, Minn, Wis, Iowa; 3 others – MD (5-6), Ind (5-6), NWern (5-6); 10 total

CUSA (6 bowls): 4 in – MTSU, WKU, LaTech, ODU; 3 others – SMiss (5-6), UTSA (5-6), NTex (5-6); 7 total

Indies (1 bowl): 1 in – BYU; 1 other – Army (6-5)*; 2 total

MAC (5 bowls): 5 in – WMU, Toledo, OHIO, EMU, CMU; 2 others – Fiami (5-6), Akron (5-6); 7 total

MWC (7 bowls): 6 in – Boise, SDSU, Wyoming, AFA, NM, Colo St; 0 others; 6 total

Pac 12 (7 bowls): 6 in – Wash, Utah, Colo, Wash St, Stanford, USC; 1 other – AZSt (5-6); 7 total

SEC (10 bowls): 10 in – TxAM, Bama, FL, Auburn, Tenn, Ark, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, SoCar; 2 others – Vandy (5-6), Miss (5-6); 12 total

Sun Belt (4 bowls): 4 in – Troy, App St, Idaho, Ark St; 2 others – SBama (5-5), ULL (4-6); 6 total

* – Army played two 1AA schools, so it needs seven wins for bowl eligibility. With six wins, though, it'll be first in line if there aren't 80 bowl eligible teams. Army's last game is vs Navy on Dec 10.

This week's schedule for the “others”:
Akron at OHIO (7-4)
BSU (4-7) at Fiami
NCSt at UNC (8-3)
TCU at Tex
BC at Wake (6-5)
LaTech (8-3) at SMiss
AZSt at AZ (2-9)
Rutgers (2-9) at MD
Ark St (6-4) at ULL
Purdue (3-8) at Ind
Ill (3-8) at NWern
Miss St (4-7) at Miss
Navy (8-2) at SMU
SBama at Idaho (6-4)
NTex at UTEP (3-8)
UTSA vs Charlotte (4-7)
Tenn (8-3) at Vandy

Under the NCAA’s process, after bowl slots are filled by the 6+-win teams, any remaining slots are filed by teams with 5-7 records. The 5-7 teams are prioritized based on their APR. To give some perspective as to where various teams stand, here are the APRs for the teams that are 5-5 or 5-6, plus the 4-win teams whose APR is in that range:

Duke (4-7): 995
NWern (5-6): 992
Vandy (5-6): 990
NTex (5-6): 984
BC (5-6): 981
Indiana (5-6): 979
MD (5-6): 977
ND (4-7): 975
Syracuse (4-7): 973
UCLA (4-7): 972
Tex (5-6): 971
Miss St (4-7): 971
NIU (4-7): 970 (With a win at Kent this week, NIU could get a bowl slot.)
NCSt (5-6): 969
Fiami (5-6): 969
ULM (4-7): 967
Cincy (4-7): 967
Cal (4-7): 960
AZSt (5-6): 960
Miss (5-6): 958
BSU (4-7): 957 (Beating Fiami tomorrow night could put BSU in the hunt.)
UTSA (5-6): 956
SMiss (5-6): 955
Charlotte (4-7): 955
ULL (4-6): 950
Nevada (4-7): 949
SBama (5-6): 947
Akron (5-6): 947
SMU (5-6): 945
ECU (4-7): 943
TxTech (4-7): 941
GaSouth (4-7): 940
FIU (4-7): 938
UNLV (4-7): 936
TCU (5-5): 935

(Hawaii is already 5-7, but isn’t on this list. If Hawaii beats UMass this week, they’ll be 6-7 and have priority over 5-7 teams. If they lose, they’ll be 5-8 and out of the picture, even though they have a respectable 971 APR.)

We will get by.

Our friends over in Oxford are actually on the brink of some history. If Miami wins, they will be the first team ever to start a season 0-6 and to come back to be .500 by season's end.

When they were 0-6, I thought Martin was gone for good. But after this season I have to think they keep him. He's improved the win total every season he's been there.

Yeah, even if they lose, they still seem to be headed for being one of the better teams in the MAC again in the next few years.
