OCF and his fiancee, now wife, were juniors at OHIO. With the Cubs in the World Series for the first time since I was in my first year on this planet, and OHIO beating Toledo, I'm in seventh Heaven right now. GO OHIO!

I was a junior in high school.

Frank Solich was coaching at Holy Name HS in Omaha.

Yes, it's the biggest MAC win I can remember.

I was three when they won at the Glass bowl. The last time we beat them was my senior year. We were 4-6-1 that year, the same record as that team up 33.

My mother who is a fan retired yesterday after 19 years at her company. I said to her before why not make it an even 20. Watching the game she was sending me emojis after each good and bad play. I said after the win it was an early retirement present and a sign that you made the right decision. This is someone who sat through games watching the cats get destroyed at Bowling Green 72-21 so it was real nice to see a win on Thursday.

I would add she watched it on a nice big 4k TV at home. Said it was the best production ever for a Bobcat game texting from the iphone. I'm so glad for CBS Sports.

Best thing I can say about the CBSSN broadcast of the game Thursday night is that they didn't treat it as a 4-hour commercial for a top-10 matchup scheduled for Saturday night. The announcers focused on what was happening on the field and not trying to build up interest in a big ACC showdown or SEC matchup later in the weekend. The studio crew, at halftime and after the game, led with the Ohio-UT matchup, something MAC teams don't get from an ESPN broadcast.

CBSSN treats basketball the same way. Very refreshing.

ESPN usually tapes the halftime studio segment for G5 games so their "talent" and techs can leave early. I've seen the same halftime show on two different games in the same night. CBS even runs the scores from midweek games during their Saturday games. They're great.

I agree with this, too, but when you are at a game it's clear they have far more advertising time. The media timeouts are noticeably longer than those for ESPN. I've asked others about this and they have noticed the same thing, so this is not just my observation.

.........I was a second grader in Brevard County, Florida, and attending the first elementary school in the district which had an integrated attendance zone. The district was under a consent decree with the U.S. Justice Department due to persistent segregation and opened the school in 1966 as a way to begin to comply with the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling. A few weeks after Ohio's win, I watched the successful Apollo 4 launch -- unmanned -- which tested the Saturn V rocket which carried later Apollo missions to the moon and back safely. My pop was a rocket scientist who worked for McDonnell-Douglas and later Grumman during the Apollo program.

As Russ Eisenstein said post-game, this was a good program win. I look forward to seeing how we build on it in the weeks ahead.

I agree with those who say the CBS Sports Network coverage is strong and the reasons cited.

Much better than NBSSPORTS. THAT IS BRUTAL

reading the other day about WS game 2 (I believe game2) when that gem of a game was pitched. Article complaining about he length of the game and compared to a similar stat line of a Bob Gibson gem in 68' with a similar stat line that only lasted 2:08. It's not the actions of the players it's the TV timeouts, 18 commercial breaks minimum at a 3:00 average is an hour right there.

I disagree. The TV timeouts are not solely responsible. yes, the commercials can be very long, but the players (batters and pitchers both) are taking way too much time between pitches. (This is coming from a total baseball honk, too. My three favorite sports are baseball, baseball, and thinking about baseball while having sex.) I swear it took Chapman a minute between pitches the other night and the catcher to mound visits are getting out of hand. It's the world Series. If you don't have your signals straight now, you never will, and you've already scouted all the hitters tendencies. I think MLB has done a great job getting the regular season game times down. and I love a game with some rhythm to it. I think the umps should take a little initiative to get it moving a little bit in the playoffs.

that said, yes, NBC comparing today's bullpen-centric game to a Bob Gibson complete game gem of yesteryear is stupid.

And to stay on topic, that Bob Gibson gem is more recent than our last win at the Glass Bowl!!

I know that this is thread drift, but since I started this thread, I can do anything with it I want, right? Your comment here reminds me of one of my pet peeves. The use of computers to come up with the most arcane stats imaginable. I'm waiting for "Russell has now become the first, right-handed batting shortstop of Filipino ancestry in the history of the World Series to hit a grand slam home run in third inning of the sixth game." Go Cubs! ;-)

Oh, yes, the Cubs World Series championship drought is longer than OHIO's against Toledo.

I must recognize that OCF was right about the Cubs.

(despite being wrong about much else)

That game last night was so dramatic.

But the third game 1-0 victory by The Tribe was much more nervous tension for me since it was a key game at the time and the game could have changed at any moment on a single pitch. The Cubs seemed in control of game seven for almost all of the game.

The key to the series was getting men on base with less than two outs. The Cubs did that better, especially in the latter games. Also, the Cubs adjusted their hitting style (from trying to smash everything to driving the ball to where it was pitched). That and the fatigue of The Tribe's staff meant a lot less called strikes and swing and misses by the Cubs--especially in game seven.

The Tribe made running (Lindor picked off first in the first inning of two games) and fielding errors (how'd a short fly to Rajai Davis turn into a sacrifice fly)? But the managers both hurt their teams at the end.

In game seven, three balls were smashed--tagged-- off Kluber in the 2nd inning. All three were caught. But after he got through the third inning, he should have been lifted by Francona. First pitch of fourth: Cub Dinger.

In the tenth, the Cubs had 2d and 3rd with one out and a right-hand hitter hitting about .091 coming to the plate against right-hander Shaw. Francona decided to walk that guy to load the bases. But the next guy up was a lefty (who singled, driving in the 8th run)--I'd've pitched to the right-handed batter.

Maddon almost blew it by over-using Chapman. (Shouldn't have used him in sixth game--certainly no more than to get Lindor out with two on, two out in the 7th.) And pulling Hendrix early yesterday was really a bad move--it put Cubs in position of going early to an undependable bullpen. If the Cubs had lost, people would've been talking about Maddon's management eternity. But he won, so nevermind.

All in, the Cubs were the better team.

Sure wish The Tribe would've have healthy Carrasco, Salazar and Brantley. But that is in no way an excuse. The Cubs won and that's the full and final bottom line.

Why people thought the Cubs would sweep easily thru The Tribe after The Tribe went 7-1 in the first two rounds is beyond me.

Thanks, Monroe, I agree with much of your analysis here. Pulling Hendricks and bringing in Lester was a real dumb move. I said so at the time. For a manager that usually makes very deft moves that one was a real head scratcher. But, the Cubs ultimately overcame that move that lead to two unearned runs. In this game I would say that the Cubs won not because of Maddon but in spite of him. But, that's an unusual situation. Overall, he's the best manager in baseball, IMHO.

Now, please take a look at my post prior to Game 6. Note that I called a grand slam home run by Russell in the exact inning in which it was hit. My ESP was working overtime!;-) OK, I'm not so good with other predictions, but you got to admit that was a real called shot. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when it happened. I told my wife and son when he came up with the bases loaded that there might be something unusual about to happen . . . and then wham out of the park and I was laughing so much I could hardly tell them about my prediction. When I read it off BA to them, they were stunned. As you would say, "Great Call!" :-)

OCF--I did not see your slam call but that is an awesome prediction.

I assume, of course, that you put $10 on it in Las Vegas and received the 17,468 to 1 payoff.

Must confess OCF gets a point for the Trump win.

Heck, if only .5 for the Cubs win, then a full 1.5 for the Trump win.

I am totally surprised.
