Extra! Extra!

Men from all corners of the Internet explain their phenomenal expectations without even adjusting their mediocre attitudes!

A dime for a dozen copies!

SBH wrote:
Toledo's offensive and defensive coordinators have got to be licking their chops. This has 30-point loss written all over it. This program is sub-mediocre right now...which is astonishing given our investment over the past 11 years. It's time, Mr. Schaus, though I know you won't force any changes.

Exactly right on all accounts. Best post I've read on here all year....maybe ever.

Couldn't have said it better. I may TiVo the Toledo Game and see what happens before I decide to watch it.

SBH gets it. The program is stagnant. I have very little faith that the current staff can make the necessary changes to the X's and O's, nor do I think they have the salesmanship to bring in the talent needed to compete with Toledo or WMU in the next several years.

MariettaCatFanatic wrote:
Living up here I get the opportunity to see Toledo quite often and there could not be a worse match up for us. We're not the type of team to get into an offensive shootout against a team that can score at will. Take Toledo to cover the 17 and run.

If I were betting on this, I'd take Toledo and give the 17 with little hesitation.

I couldn't be more excited about the responses on this thread. It's nice to see that there are those out there that see this program in the same light that I do. I am a diehard Cats fan and support them home and away. I've been to Louisville, Lexington, Knoxville, Lawrence, Huntington, Morgantown, Columbus, College Park, State College, Evanston, Champaign and all over the MAC to watch this team the last couple decades.

There is nothing more I'd like to see than for Ohio to raise the level of this program to be a consistent powerhouse in the MAC. We were on that track from 2009-2011....but have taken giant steps back since then.

Where we are now is disappointing and to finally read folks that see the same things I see is refreshing (and makes me feel less insane)

I said this a long time ago....build a statue of Frank outside the stadium. Name the field after him (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium) What he did for this program should never be forgotten. He pulled us from six-feet under and pumped life into this program. But it is certainly time to pass the baton to someone else to elevate us again. No excuse to watch WMU & others in the MAC soar while we scuffle along to 7-5 bowl seasons thanks to beating the doormats of the MAC and some also-rans in out-of-conference play.

See you in Toledo.

Go Cats!

Truly tonight wipes out and totally makes up for the last four years.

Along with any other poor performances which might yet happen.

Aren't you one who's appalled at my approach to statistics? Glad to see you taking such an even-handed, rational approach.

Lol I didn't even watch the game.

I'd hardly consider trolling at 11 pm local time the middle of the night.

I avoid you like the plague, Rainman. Paint me however you want, but this is what I posted about Ohio football earlier this week:

The only thing every one of us can control is how we enjoy the game. If we go to games, bring friends and family, make a day of it, have fun and cheer, treat people right around us... magically IT IS our own personal football utopia. Hopefully some other people see we're having fun and it brings some more into the fold.

This mindset works for most things in life. Think about it: when I'm sitting on the grass up on the hill watching a game in Peden, I'm happy. The scoreboard doesn't have to be gigantic, the stands don't have to be filled and everyone doesn't have to be a superfan. There doesn't have to be a ranking next to our name. I'm watching a bunch of hard-working athletes that are wearing the colors and name of the university I love at a really high level. I'm sitting in a town I love, surrounded by hills and majestic trees turning their wonderful colors, all of it bringing back a bunch of great memories. This place creates new memories for me each year.

That said, I think the program needs to win games for there to be a baseline happiness. Knorr years didn't lend themselves to wonderful Saturday afternoons. I do think there needs to be energy injected into the gameday experience. At the very least, the concessions need to be fixed. But if we're going to be unhappy until the football program is a well-oiled national machine, we're never going to enjoy this thing. In the words of DFW, "if [we] don't make a conscious decision about how to think and what to pay attention to, [we're] gonna be pissed and miserable every time."

Expect more from the program, but don't forget to enjoy it. It's a sport. It's Athens. It's fun.

I don't believe in baseline happiness.

To quote Mohandas Ghandi in way that simply represents my take on happiness:

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony."

If you think they can't win, you say they can't win, and watch them win, in my personal opinion, your mental association to the team cannot be in harmony in even the best of outcomes, as probable or improbable at the outcome may be.

The equation works at all points in time, regardless of the perceived or measured historical state of the team.

While I'm online,

Part of the reason I was able to troll and response troll at 11 PM from IHOP and at 1 AM from my buddy's apartment is because I've just finished hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650 mile walk from the U.S. border of Mexico to the U.S. border of Canada. The walk took 6 months.

I'm posting this humble brag because I do believe some on here do not have preloaded tension against me and would be very much interested in checking out my blog, notwaitingtolive.com. For this brief moment in time, the number of people from around the world who have completed the Pacific Crest Trail in one hike is comparable to the number of people who have summitted Mt. Everest. (Surely that will not be the case in the near future with the rapidly increasing popularity of the trail).

Sincerely,

This unhinged guy

I'll own what I said. For the record, I watched it live and celebrated after the win. I'm not a part time fan. The win doesn't erase Texas State and EMU.

You aren't going to find anyone happier than me. This was a huge win.

Would you be open to considering a different approach for the remainder of the season that I believe will increase your happiness?

Let go of the past. Focus on the fact the MACC is still on the table and within the team's control. Think they can win, say they can win, and hopefully watch them win.

That is totally honest and right. After this victory, we can plot a new course. Let's win the MAC.

+1 Diamond Cat and allen!
Let's focus on the Buffs ! They are very much like EMU, but with a better running game. This one will be a war, and our kids and staff had better be ready for a struggle.
We went to Buffalo last year to watch that game. (ok, it was on my bucket list, I didnt get out much as a youngster!) What a long miserable ride home after watching that game! Hopefully our kids remember that night!

I don't think the word "humble" belongs in any part of this. I also don't see much point in gloating at people who have legitimate complaints and expectations for this program, which has yet to actually accomplish much this year.

It was a great win. I sure didn't see it coming, and all but a handful of diehards on here predicted a bad outcome. Everyone is happy today, and yet you choose to pop in to be the turd in the punchbowl, then have the temerity to suggest that we all learn to appreciate life more. Physician, heal thyself.
