This week 11 more teams became bowl eligible, so there are now 48 total: USF, Houston, Tulsa, Temps, Navy, Memphis, Clemson, L'ville, UNC, VaTech, Wake, FSU, Baylor, WVU, Okla St, Okla, Mich, O$U, Neb, PSU, Minn, Wis, MTSU, WKU, LaTech, ODU, WMU, Toledo, OHIO, Boise, SDSU, Wyoming, AFA, NM, Wash, Utah, Colo, Wash St, Stanford, USC, TxAM, Bama, FL, Auburn, Tenn, Ark, Troy, App St

23 teams need only one win for eligibility: UCF, Pitt, GaTech, MiamiF, KState, TCU, Tex, Iowa, MD, Ind, SMiss, UTSA, BYU, Akron, CMU, EMU, Colo St, AZSt, LSU, Kentucky, Georgia, SoCar, Idaho

Two teams that are at or above .500 need two wins: Army*, Ark St

(* ̵ Needs seven wins to be eligible)

So 73 teams are either eligible or need to win half or fewer of their remaining games to be eligible for one of the 80 bowl slots. That's down 12 from last week.

Here's the bowl picture by conference (does not include the six at large bids):

AAC (7 bowls): 6 in, 1 other, 7 total
ACC/ND (12 bowls): 6 in, 3 others, 9 total
Big 12 (7 bowls): 4 in, 3 others, 7 total
Big 10 (8 bowls): 6 in, 3 others, 9 total
CUSA (6 bowls): 4 in, 2 others, 6 total
Indies (1 bowl): 0 in, 2 others, 2 total
MAC (5 bowls): 3 in, 3 others, 6 total
MWC (7 bowls): 4 in, 2 others, 6 total
Pac 12 (7 bowls): 6 in, 1 other, 7 total
SEC (10 bowls): 6 in, 4 others, 10 total
Sun Belt (4 bowls): 2 in, 2 others, 4 total

In addition, 16 teams are 4-5 and could sneak in by winning two of their last three games: Cincy, SMU, NCSt, Syracuse, BC, TxTech, Nwern, NTex, Charlotte, BSU, Cal, Vandy, Miss, Miss St, GaSouth, SBama

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Teamrankings still sums to 77. It has stayed in the range of about 77.3 to 78.1 since week 2. It isn't that relevant to us. One more win and missing a bowl would be impossible. But even in the unlikely events of Ohio failing to win the division and we end up 7-5 and more than 80 teams qualifying it would probably be 6-6 G5 teams than stay home and not Ohio.

Kind of crazy to see the names of programs who have won championships recently towards the bottom of this list. Just goes to show how hard it can be to sustain success and the price that can be paid for it in terms of coaches being hired away, becoming a bigger target on opponent schedules etc.

Will be interested in seeing how WMU fares in the near future as I most certainly anticipate Fleck being hired away. Just hope he sees the season through as I would love to say Ohio beat them at full strength to win the MAC and also to give them the best chance of repping the conference well in a bowl game.

Speaking of bowl games, I wonder if ESPN's recent rapid decline in subscribers will mean anything in the amount of bowl games they and other channels like them can produce. Hopefully a decline in the number of them is on the horizon.

In a strange way the future of ESPN may be the much maligned ESPN3 and devices like AppleTV and other types of "internet TV." As this article mentions, ESPN is investing heavily in the "streaming world."

Yeah the problem is though the ratio of money the are currently making from cable/satellite subscribers isn't going to be made up for through streaming services. ESPN's current subscriber fee is $7.21, which is a huge number for one channel.

In the future, what do you think they could charge as a monthly ESPN3 subscriber fee to those who "cut the cord"? I realize that this would require a renegotiation of their contracts with various cable companies, but I see that coming. Cable has fewer and fewer bargaining chips each year.

Good question. It seems to me like the streaming services have the power over ESPN and other channels, not the other way around at the moment. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next few years that's for sure. Also, who knows what's going to happen with this looming DirecTv/AT&T and Time Warner merger.

ESPN, it seems to me, will slowly transition from a primary cable model to a primary streaming model. This will probably take a decade or more to accomplish, but it seems to me to be the direction the company is going. The MAC is part of the beta test for this model, with the money ESPN has invested in the on-campus facilities for streaming sportscasting.
