I like it that we're on national TV, but don't like it this early in the season due to opportunities to go watch prospects play in their respective games. The Big Ten schools will discover what other schools have learned by going Fridays (ask Toledo, they get zero favors from it other than TV money).

So it's both Kansas and Purdue next year, huh? Man does Ohio know how to scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to scheduling P5 teams.

Well, at least those are P5 games Ohio can win. And maybe even be favored.

I like the thought of playing P5 games we can win.

Double yes! Win out and enter with a full head of steam, Bobcats! Don't want to stumble into Motown as a result of tiebreakers etc.

I have never been a huge fan of college football being played on Fridays except for the day after Thanksgiving games. Of course I could make an exception if the Bobcats are playing for a MAC title!

As a high school football fan I think that Friday should be reserved for the preps. I wish OHSAA would have moved all of the playoff games to Friday nights but I imagine it has to do with availability of officials, facilities etc. I missed the Pitt game back in '05 to watch my high school play (and beat!) in Crew Stadium the defending state champs from Texas. Wish I could have been at both places but knew there would probably be other Ohio games on par with Pitt. The high school game was a more rare opportunity.

I try my best to watch/listen to/follow online every game Ohio plays but Friday night will always be tougher for me.

First we complain on here that we don't schedule those games enough. Now we don't like specifically which P5 teams we're playing?

Agreed. I'm not in favor of Friday night football. I'm tired of plays to make more TV money instead of doing what makes sense. What makes sense is to leave high school football Friday night alone.

Don't disagree, but on December 2, most HS football is over, other than the state contenders. I assume that's true in Ohio. It's certainly true in Tennessee.

This thread is referencing the Purdue game September 8, 2017 on a Friday night, not the MAC Championship Game on December 2, 2016.

This will be my OOC game I attend next year. Hope to go with my best bud who happens to be a Purdue grad. Getting a room close by not a fun thing to do for a Friday night game though.

I will try very hard to attend this game. It will be kind of a nostalgic trip for me. Back in the 1960s I went to an OHIO-Purdue game with my father and a close friend. They are both now deceased. My father saved the ticket stubs for that game, and I saved the program. I now have both.

The score of that game was 17-0 Purdue. Bob Griese scored all 17 points, as he scored both TDs, kicked the field goal and the extra points. This was the first game of his first eligible year and Purdue hadn't decided if he would be their QB or their place kicker. After this game they named him QB and never looked back.

Below is a chart, from a Purdue website, which didn't paste well, but if you look at the bottom you will see the note about Griese's accomplishment.

Yeah...this is always tough when it comes to football scheduling (and hoops for that matter to a degree)

A lot of these games are scheduled so far in advance, you have no idea what the team will look like once you play them.

Now, I think we all knew Kansas was crap before and will be crap for a long time.

But Purdue is a wild card. They've had some decent teams over the years...but we just happen to catch them after the Hazell experiment went wildly wrong.

Let's hope UC doesn't implode under Tuberville and BC/UVA both improve a bit to make those bigger games.

The games I hate are the FCS games (which I know everyone plays) and the games against the TXSt/UMass teams. Bad FBS non-P5 teams.

Why not get teams like Temple, Memphis, WKU, MTSU or other teams like Marshall on the schedule. Rather play better non-P5 competition rather than loading up on turds...we have enough of those already on OUr MAC schedules.

One of the potential answers to this question is simple: They don't want to play us, or they aren't willing to give us a 1 for 1.

Find it hard to believe that Memphis and MTSU are willing to play BG but not Ohio?

Same for WKU vs. Miami

Temple vs. UB in a few years.

All those have been home-and-home. We end up with home-and-homes with UMass and TxSt. #Fail

I really like the way BG schedules. They schedule with the confidence that they're going to be a program to be reckoned with. Some years they'll play three "money" games. They get teams like Maryland to play AT BG.

http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-18/2018-bowling-green-fal...

Our scheduling is getting a little better...but still some stinkers on there going forward.

OCF--Clearly Griese did not have the night/stats which you allege.

After all, he'd not had 2.5 years and some game experience under his belt in order to learn how to quarterback at the college level.

If I say it, it's true no matter what. Very unfair to you and all my friends!

Thanks for posting this. Funny, though, my memory of the game is in color not black and white! ;-)

Major college football fans might rather play those types of teams but a casual fan has no idea those teams are as good as or better than Purdue and Kansas.
