here's my view. Mostly good stuff:

We played well tonight. We looked like we used to look during MACtion 3-5 years ago when we were thumping Temple and beating a good BG team, etc.

I mentioned the danger of running our qb so much--injury possibility. Didn't like the keeper by Maxwell, therefore, after Windham got hurt. Very thin at qb before tonight. Thinner now for a while.

We will miss the guys in the middle of our d-line next year (well, the guys who graduate). Somebody in there--Aloese--may be All-MAC caliber.

Basham is talented. No doubt. But, espec given consistently solid play of the interior of our D-line, he should be better. I don't know if it's the way we use him (he should be right end, never left) or he doesn't play the run well, or better teams can handle him. But he seems to have the stuff to dominate...but doesn't get there.

I wouldn't object if our offense was highly based on passing to Smith (gets open, really grabs it) and Reid (who we don't seem to target much but who seems to catch everything thrown his way and to make key grabs). Belack seems decent. And where are the tight ends now? As ExCat21 noted, they seem to have good hands and to be able to use their height/size to advantage.

We played very well tonight--on national TV.

Please blitz on third down and long more often.

Our kicking game has to be among the best in the nation. Perhaps Zervos can't hit the long ball but up to, at least, moderate distance he's very good. And Farkas is probably our MVP by consistency and the field position advantage he's given us. I don't know the stats but the eyes tell me that the oppo sure starts a heckuva lot inside their own 15 whereas we seem to start a lot of drives at the 30-35.

Gotta be a fun ride home for a well-deserved job by all involved tonight--players, coaches, fans, etc.

There was some hitting going on out there this evening. Gonna be some sore bodies over the next two days. Dorian Brown, in particular. Heckuva night for you, young man.

Db's that were a worry at the beginning of the season are not stellar but (yes, L.C.) are playing decently.

So, why does tonight happen so nicely on a short week to prepare yet we have losses to Tex State, EMU and not very convincing wins over Miami and BG?!!

Thanks...I can sleep tonight knowing how you feel about this game. Full disclosure...I didn't read anything you wrote. Don't have time for it.

For any who go to the injuries card, please stop it. It's just not an excuse ever.

Every team has injuries. Some just happen. Some are a result of what a team does (run Windham so much, can't be surprised he takes a hit).

Just stop it with the 'injuries.'

Maxwell --just gotta hit long balls when receivers are wide open.

After Smush Parker was All-World for the Lakers for his first two games...let's just say it's about consistency, about playing to a good share of one's potential. Tonight gets dimmed if we don't realize what we can be and play to it.

Keep it OHIO UP.

Disagree a little here. Not sure what is going on with our kickoffs. It appeared Farkas was kicking off instead of Zervos. That would make sense if Farkas was out kicking Zervos, but last night the ball was falling around the 15 yard line. Not sure if that was intentional. I hope it was, but I would expect us to kick the deep ball on occasion. Zervos seems to kick deep inside the 5, but we struggle to get touchbacks.

I said that I believed that this year and next year could be Solich's best two teams at Ohio. I have never wavered in my belief, even though they had disappointing games against Texas State and EMU. They also have had times they played very, very well. For example, the Ohio team I saw thoroughly throttle Kansas in the first half was impressive, as was the Ohio team that went toe to toe with Tennessee.

This was an Ohio team that had some holes to fill early, and which needed to grow. The DBs were all new, and needed to establish themselves. The whole left side of the offensive line was new, and needed to continue to improve. The QB position needed to develop. And, most of all, the team needed to bond, and gain confidence. It didn't help that when they lost 4 running backs in four games.

This team has improved in all the areas where it needed to improve as the season has progressed. They beat a very good Toledo team last night, and it was not a fluke win. I agree with those that say this was Frank's best MAC win yet.

This team is not done improving, in my mind. The offensive line has improved dramatically. They came together for some nice plays at Kent, and now they came together for a whole game, at Toledo, and should continue to improve. The DBs will continue to improve. Most importantly, the young QB should continue to improve with each game.

No, this was not the most impressive start for a Bobcat team. When the season is over, I believe it will be considered one of the best. They seem to be developing the heart, and will to win that the 2006 team had, but with more talent.

Go Bobcats. Take care of business one game at a time.

I will go ahead and say that this is Frank's best MAC win since he has been at the helm. Wins like the 06 game over Akron to clinch the East were great but to win on the road against a team we have not taken out since LBJ was in office, as a 16 point dog, and lead wire to wire? Not getting a sack which is a hallmark of the defense, being held with no call a lot and making enough plays to get the win.

Sad to see Windham go down but it will likely be a blessing to the program long term. Barring some really strong QB recruiting/injury, we hopefully have a trigger man who will be on the field for the next 3+ years. Personally not a fan of one and done Qbs. Prefer guys who play 3-4 years and really leave a mark on the program and lead. Maxwell showed me some moxie late in the game with a couple of clutch throws that I believe, mixed with 2-3 other plays, that really won the game. That 3rd down strike to Jordan Reid was just as big as the strike to Shaw later in the drive.

I don't have stats on the % of catchable balls that each of our receivers has caught, but I think Reid and Smith do quite well here. And know how to get open. They should both be targeted significantly, centerpiece of our offense. More Reid. Seems to catch a lot of big (3rd downs converted to first down) balls.

Have had pm's with people in which they note that TV announcers state we have guys who NFL scouts are looking at. TV guys do praise our players. But the announcers always pump up the players and coaches.

It makes them and the viewers feel as if what they're watching matters.

And, of course NFL scouts are considering our players. They'd not be doing their jobs if they didn't consider every possibility.

I bring this up because it appears some take the announcers at their word, believe that we're stacked with NFL talent.

No. A lot of guys will get tryouts. And not every NFL player is drafted...but not every guy who's drafted play in the NFL.

On average, the MAC has about 8 guys drafted a year by the NFL.

So, we don't have 6 guys who are NFL worthy. We just don't.

If we did/do have a lot of NFL talent on our roster, then where are the MACC titles and why have we had so many bad losses over the last four years?

And why are we so affected by injuries if our talent is so NFL-caliber?

OCF--More evidence that my credibility may be reasonable and yours not so much. Tennessee lost today. They'll probably not be in the top 25 any longer. Then, there's the diamond.

How can we interpret a painful injury to a senior leader as a "blessing in disguise"?

And they lost to a team with a freshman QB who was starting his very first game against SEC competition. In fact, he was a high school senior by age--he skipped his senior year to start early.

In another thread, you said we beat Miami who was using their third string freshman QB, and therefore we beat a "weak" Miami team. Is the same true of Tennessee? Did they lose to a "weak" South Carolina team?

Robert--If you're asking me, I don't know...I do see that redhawk is 3-0 after being winless after losing to Akron after they lost to us.

Did they get their starting qb back who made a huge difference?

Didn't ask for a prediction. The context is what we started with: As you know, based on their game with us, I stated that I didn't think Tennessee was all that good. I predicted that they will not end the year in the top 25. Long way to go...we'll see.

Just want your opinion on status as their-loss-yesterday-drops-them-out-of-top-25.

CONSISTENCY could make us a very good team. We have not had it so far this year. Maybe we get it down the stretch!

They may make something of a difference.

But, please comprehend on my umpteenth deadhorse repeatage, every team has them every year. So, coaches must recruit and strategize with that in mind.

So, while excuses may cause difference from the ideal plan, the ideal plan going in...THEY ARE NOT AN EXCUSE.

See, DIFFERENCE does not equal EXCUSE.
