Wyoming knocks off Boise State in Laramie on a late safety!

Not something you see every Saturday! Here is the link if you want to see the play:

The biggest question is… Does this help open the door further for the Fighting Flecks to go to go to a major bowl? Of course how sweet would it be if there was a win and in scenario for them and we are the ones to knock them out of the opportunity in Detroit!

I seem to recall that EMU beat Wyoming early in the season. Just goes to show that on any given Saturday (or name midweek day of your choice) anything can happen. Also shows EMU is a much improved team this year, as we already know first-hand, unfortunately.

Seems like there have been more safeties this year than in previous seasons.

Wyoming is going to be really, really good here in a little bit. Head coach Craig Bohl won three straight National Championships at North Dakota State and it looks like he's turning them around quicker than anticipated. The two games they've lost this year were to Nebraska and EMU...not bad at all.

BTW, he's from Lincoln originally and played football at Nebraska. Gotta think him and Frank are good friends. I wouldn't mind having a little back and forth between Ohio and Wyoming for a few seasons with these two at the helm.

I've thought the same thing at times. Maybe it's because so many teams are now running offenses that play out of a pistol/shotgun formation nowadays and also throw a lot more? Seen several plays where a team will hand off the ball 3 yards in the endzone and get tackled in the backfield, plays like what happened to the Boise QB on Saturday, high snaps over the QB's head etc.

Don't know how many games have ended on a walk-off safety but the Mike Brown Bengals managed that feat on an All Hallows Eve once.

Through 9 weeks there have been 47 safeties by 1A teams, 5.2 per week. That means we're on pace to hit 68 through the 13-week season.

All last year, including regular season, conference championship and bowl games, there were only 57 safeties.

I think you're right. Punt teams have been good at downing the ball inside the 2 and offenses don't go under center for that first play. The two safeties we've gotten this year were because we downed a punt at the 1 and the other team handed off well inside the end zone.
