Got to thinking about something today...

...so you're the Miami AD and your coach is working on his 3rd straight losing season. While this coach was very successful in a lower division and it appears the program is headed in the right direction and getting somewhat better, maybe you decide to hand it off to someone else.

There's a guy out there who nobody is really talking about anymore. Great coach who got in some trouble with the NCAA and hasn't been coaching for a while. He has a show-cause penalty with the NCAA that expires December 2016. He turns 64 this December also, still plenty of time for coaching left.

Jim Tressel.

I mean, it can't get much worse at Miami right? If I'm an AD at a school like Miami why not? Roll the dice. He still knows the state of Ohio and his name still carries weight. To be honest I have no idea if he still wants to coach, but I'm taking a hard look at that. What's the worse that could happen? He turns you down, so what.

A friend of mine also mentioned if Cincinnati gets rid of Tommy Tuberville, why wouldn't they take a look at him? That would be the ultimate middle finger to OSU and I would LOVE it.

First, I can't see Miami taking on anyone like Tressel. I just can't.

Second, as a UC fan, I'm hoping for this ideal scenario:

1) They are told prior to the end of the season that they'll be part of Big 12 expansion.

2) They fire Tommy at the conclusion of the season. This is damn near a certainty at this point I think, regardless of the Big 12 status, but I'd have to think an absolute certainty if they get in.

3) Assuming they get into the Big 12, they hire PJ Fleck. No way he leaves WMU for anywhere that isn't a P5 school in my eyes, hence the "ideal scenario".

I could see the Tressel hiring if the Big 12 falls through, but would he even be interested? Would they want a coach that just came out of that situation?

PJ would probably be a good fit at UC, I'll agree with your hopefulness there. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him row his boat down to Baton Rouge.

Of course all of that scenario is contingent on whether or not Tressel would even want to coach again. I could just imagine him doing what Frank did and coaching somewhere small until he is ready to retire. But, then again, maybe he's trying build Youngstown State up to the point where they can be an FBS school.

I just think it's funny how there's so many coaching failures out there on guys who are complete shots in the dark and he's just sitting there with his national championship ring. The show-cause penalty of course has a lot to do with that. You don't want to deal with that. But this December you won't have to anymore.

I wonder how he would be received in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure he's a big enough name to keep the natives happy.
