Just saw this story...
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/9/17/129555...

Charlotte got 45 yards of deadball unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after an EMU touchdown, which moved the KO to Charlotte's 20 yard line. Anybody ever see something like this before?

(Also, if I could change one scoring rule in football, I would give the kicking team one point if a kickoff goes through the opponent's uprights on a kickoff. This would have been a great time for that rule.)

The NFL should consider this too. Everyone is so concerned about player safety on kicks, this would make things interesting!

You can score on a free kick after a fair catch or an awarded fair catch, which is the exact same set up as a K.O.. And yes, I have seen a KO from the +20 before.

After a fair catch, yes. That's my favorite obscure football rule now that they have eliminated the A-11 offense loophole.

I'm talking about after any score. So, a touchdown could potentially be worth 6 + PAT (or 2 pt conversion) + the K.O. point.

Teams punt after safeties. Why not punt in this situation, providing more air time and a better chance to run under the ball for onside kick recovery. Is this allowed?

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

And my sources tell me that EMU actually won this game against the vastly superior C-USA, and that in Huntington this was called "Unacceptable" in certain quarters. Just good natured fun, Chuck! ;-)

An interesting note about doing an onside kick is that often, on onside kicks, they kick toward the edge of the field, and if not recovered, the ball goes out of bounds. If that happened here, they would get the ball at the 35, not the ten. You'd want to do a short onside kick to the center of the field.

At some levels the ball is placed 10 yards behind the receiving teams free kick line. Usually the 35 but not always.

Not exactly, the following choices are available to the receiving team: This is covered in rule 6-2-1

1. Where the ball goes out of bounds (succeeding spot) with 5yd penalty enforced against the kicking team

2. Enforcement of the 5yd penalty from the previous spot and replay the down.

3. Take the ball 30 yards from the restraining line of A (kick team). Since the kick is from the 20 yard line, this would be a half the distance penalty and would be enforced from the 10yd line.

You will enforce whichever of these three options that would penalize the offending team the most between option 2 and option 3.

NFHS rules the penalty is 25 yards from A's restraining line, while NCAA is 30 yards from A's restraining line.

So they would get it at the 10? Interesting. I'm sure they would not choose to replay the down. I'm not sure I'll ever see this again, but it's interesting to know. Thanks.
