. . . in the second quarter the Fox Sports announcers played up the fact that Solich, Albin and Burrows have been together for 11 years, the longest
HC-OC-DC combination in the nation?

I appreciate the consistency in the program and the loyalty they have to one another.

But every time I hear that we've had the same OC and DC for the past ten years, I always wonder why, if they're so good, they haven't found HC jobs somewhere. Do they get offers? I'm not criticizing them; just curious.

You answered your own question...they are not that good and/or at this point in their careers, they are past prime time.

You know I truly believe many of the "best coaches" remain at the high school level. There is a balance, coaching, other duties & family. The higher you go the more important the other duties become, the time for coaching becomes less and time for family becomes even less. Most of the Ohio staff has experience at the higher level where in my mind you sacrifice family and the coaching experience for other duties. If they choose Ohio with an opportunity to spend more time with their family and players I will hold them higher. Sorry, I don't assume the coaches at the "Big" programs are better.

Might be the same thing, might not be the same thing. Depends on the person. For some it's exactly the same thing, for others it's worlds apart. One shoe doesn't fit all people. Let's stop the pigeon holing.

This isn't about longevity per se.

It's about the quality of performance.

No one's going to seek to oust Saban or Urban based on longevity.

It's just that when we constantly hear gamecasters bring up our staff's longevity as proof of quality performance, well, an argument can be made that ain't so.

Once again you ignore basic statistics. Saban and Urban would be considered statistical outliers. There are NOT the norm and no where near even the upper 25 percentile range but way above. Solich and staff have close to 60% wins here in Athens and that has positive correlation with their longevity. If they were at 40 or 45 percent they'd likely not be here at this time.

I can correctly point out our very weak sched each year more often than you can make your totally-lacking-context 60% remark.

Y'know, if we don't schedule Louisville, Tennessee, Minnesota, Texas State and such, then Solich might have a 70% win rate and could be among the greatest coaches ever. Let's sched Gardner-Webb 2 or 3 times a year!

But we never see a MACC. And have seen about 1 week of top 25 in 11+ years.

I get that Saban and Urban are outliers. But that has nothing to do with the quality of Solich's work, as I point out above.

I get your emotional support for Solich...or, more accurately, your distaste for me.

But your logic constantly fails. Irrelevant points hold no water.

Wait! Here's a stat-istic.

The MAC has 13 teams. So, pure numbers mean that each school should win MAC title once every 13 years.

Our coach hasn't won one in 11 years.

Conclusion: (you fill in the blank)

Conclusion II, based on the yearly lame weakness of about half the teams in the MAC: (you fill in the blank)

You'll be here all week.
I'll be here all week.
Next game's on Saturday!

Your LACK of logic is what fails! Our schedule is what it is. We are in the MAC. We play 8 conference games .. that can't be changed. Our 4 non-conference this year are Texas St., Kansas, Tennessee and Gardner-Webb. End of story.

So I do agree with your last statement that "irrelevant points hold no water". (see your comment on schedule).

Bcat2 seriously, like FS, Albin and Burrow are past their prime AND they have a nice gig at OHIO with much less pressure on them than anywhere else they may have had the opportunity for. I don't remember hearing anything about any of them leaving over the last 5 years (the years after which they had put OHIO bck on the map in FB).

You tell me if they have had offers (and who), I could be wrong since I am not in the know...I just doubt they have.

Not to generalize, but I don't know if top high school coaches remain at that level by choice.
There have been articles in the papers out here about some of the state's top high school football head coaches trying to coach in college.
Not one has made the jump to even division III as as a head coach.

When Greg Schiano first went to Rutgers he brought in several local high school coaches as assistants,in part to help with local recruiting.
It became apparent very quickly that there was a big difference between high school and D1 football and that they weren't able to coach at that level.

Let's play Gardner-Webb for all four out of conf games next year! Let's get Solich's winning % at OHIO up there!!

Some of us judge results against the teams that actually don't stink and re games that matter.

Oops: Western Michigan, Buffalo, BG last year.
Want me to go on?

This is why you get criticized at times. You make an asinine post. See above re: play Gardner-Webb 4 times. Easy to cherry pick once again and ignore the other non-conference games we are playing. And before you trash Texas State why not wait to see what they do this year? And Tennessee more than offsets Gardner-Webb.

And FYI big teams play cupcakes. Florida State versus Charleston Southern, for example. They're called money games which we play too.

You must have a busy day at work .....

Art briles -20 year high school coach, 2 as running back coach, 14 years as sucessful (character issues aside) major college football coach. It happens.

I know. I salute those who are dedicated to the acceptance of never winning the MAC and happy to accept beatdowns by our peers.

2014: Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Western Michigan.

Colorado, surely you realize that since Ohio beat those team, they can not, by definition, be a member of the class of "teams that actually don't stink". The fact that NIU played in the MACC, the fact that Akron finished 2 games ahead of Buffalo, and the fact that Marshall was 10-3 can not alter the truth that, having lost to Ohio, obviously they stunk.

As for Gardner-Webb, they are on the schedule for one simple reason - to allow Ohio to have 6 home games a year.

That's one of your problems Monroe , you almost never accept positive results. Instead of saying that yes those games matter too, you move on to another topic. Hopeless.

Good point. At no point shall no MAC title in 11 years, not reaching the first and foremost goal once in 11 years, be allowed to cloud the record.

All kinds of other stuff is more important and offsetting.

Beat Gardner-Webb!
