I received an email that:

Single game RV parking spaces at the Ridges are now available for purchase to OBC members! The cost per game is $75. Non Ohio Bobcat Club members will have the opportunity to purchase RV parking passes (if available) beginning August 9th. No season or weekday night RV parking passes will be available, and RV parking passes must be purchased in advance. No Game day sales permitted.

Is this the only place that RV's can park for pre-gamer>
Isn't there still pre-game partying across the street from Peden....and wouldn't one want to park an RV there? Can one?

Seems a bit steep ...well, for OHIO standards...at $75 a pop.

Why not have game day sales...difficulty of taking payment?

Whether it is $75 or $100, both seem very steep for parking an RV. And I don't recall the Ridges really being a very maneuverable area for RVs...

That is a ridiculous price to park, especially when you consider 1) it's at the Ridges, which won't take away from regular game-day parking, and 2) there is absolutely NO cost to the university. It's either to make money, or discourage RVs. We used to come down for games, especially homecoming, as a whole family, including my two sons and their wives and kids, park at the Convo, and tailgate and enjoy the game. We all would spend money uptown and for game tickets and concessions. No more. When I responded to Bobcat Club, telling them how I feel about the email/cost, they said that they were merely passing along the message from parking services and had nothing to do with the cost. The only other option I know about is to park at Walmart and drive your towed car to the game. Really sad.

It seems that parking services is sending a strong message that they don't want RV's around at game time. It sends a bad message to Ohio football fans IMHO. Seems almost vindictive.

Parking services have gone rogue for years. Seems like they do all they can to dissuade visitors and produce ill will. Who could possible defend their practices? (Here's an opening, Mo.)

Between this jerk action and the parking lot paving on the first day of fall camp, why doesn't McDavis just say "enough is enough" and fire the guy who is head of the department- or just demote him to cleaning the restrooms at Peden.

What a joke. So many of the services that surround the program are a joke. The parking pay/access structure perhaps most of all.

The #1 priority of gameday parking services should be to increase the ethusiasm density nearest to the stadium. Think long term brand building.

OBC member and single game ticket holders should be funneled into lots based on whether or not theyre tailgating, not what they drive or how much they donate.

Trivial disctinctions based on mediocre financial contributions DO NOTHING TO BUILD THE BRAND OF OHIO UNIVERSITY.

I had such a great time sitting in the empty Convo parking lot with my friends last year while the passively interested Ohio fans had to drive off to god knows where to park because they didnt have a pass. (Sarcasm)

Parking services get no money from the lots around the Convo that are earmarked for OBC and sold with tickets. This is simply their way of raking the cash in. Horrible decision by our main man Marty! Let's not forget the walk to the stadium from there as well.

The reaction from everyone is what I thought I'd see.

The Ridges is kinda Siberia away from the game-day experience (tail-gating, etc).

It must be a new season as Situation and I agree on everything.

Yes.

I'm not suggesting you funnel them equally, for the same reasons your don't put the same volume of milk and sugar into a recipe. Funnel intelligently.

RVs infront of your stadium is hard to fake social proof that an event is taking place. Tailgating is a social signal.

And the Ohio brand has plateaued without it.

This will be year three or four where they've tossed RVs up into the Ridges.

If the parking included overnights, and if they ran an extension cord out for an electric hookup, I think I'd lend a little support. But I'm not so sure it does or ever would.

I can't think of any university that doesn't have an absolutely awful image in the parking services arena. Ohio is certainly no exception.

I think The Ridges has the potential to be a really cool tailgate location. But $75 a game is insane.

I can think of a 100 universities that can afford to be sloppy with their gameday parking services.

I can't think of any reason why Ohio can afford to be.

Time to trim the rose bushes...

Strongly agree with The Situation in this thread.

It is mind-blowing to me how much many underestimate the importance of game-day atmosphere to the overall health and growth of the program.

If Ohio got tailgating right, which it could SO easily, the benefits for this program would be off the charts.

The ridges is hardly a long walk to the stadium. only in the context of Athens... It's not like you have to park in nelsonville. People need to quit being babies. You want to park close, then write a check. the program needs money to advance. You want to drive a bus to a football game, then it's going to cost money to park it.

The Ridges might as well be 100 miles from the game day experience.

Most people want what they want.

And I'm betting that being a perceived distance long walk from the game day experience is not what people want.

Even if there was RV parking at the main tailgate area, we shouldn't charge for it until demand is slightly below or is above supply.

There was a point in time not so long ago, when the Green and White Club served 1000 at each and every tailgate and a band and the band played in tailgate park. It was the place to be. Now everyone does their own thing and for some, that means setting up 15 minutes from the stadium. We used to allow RV's in the Convo lot. Not sure why they were moved out but if I'm bringing 8 to 10 friends down to a game in an RV, I don't want to be out in the hinterlands. To borrow from Neil Young, "down by the river."

Yes we know you miss your G&W club. The tailgating scene has to run deeper than a donor-only club like the G&W or OBC.

Quote:

Concentrating tailgaters together would amplify the gameday experience tremendously. Yes, you've got Tailgreat Park but it needs to be more than that. The Convocation Center lot is prime for tailgating and you've got some people setup there but then you've got a huge mix of people who just go there and park. It's all broken up.

Big picture... $75 a pop isn't going to fill the coffers but it certainly will discourage RV usage and tailgating. It's just not a good thing for the program in any way.

This is crazy. There are other lots if they do not want RV's in the main lots. By central food, facility areas by the garage, HR lot or Life Sciences lots. These and many others are on the outside but yet close enough to the action. The Ridges is crazy.
