Toledo-NIU to be played at the U.S. Cellular Field in November: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-f...

Considering the poor turnout NIU had in November last year, this is not a bad move. They should have buses from Dekalb for students, though.

I'm guessing there will be a ton of empty seats. It's a strange move to see a conference game moved like this. If I'm a Toledo fan I'm thrilled as it takes a road game at NIU and makes it a neutral site. UT has also lost 6 in a row to NIU so going from a road game to a neutral site. BG and UB did something sort of like this from the neutral site standpoint a few years ago (but it wasn't in a baseball stadium). BG moved a home game vs UB to Columbus at Crew Stadium (MLS stadium) in 2012 that was a bad idea. UB moved their game the following year vs BG in 2013 to Ralph Wilson Stadium (NFL stadium) which had a much better turnout, but Amherst to Buffalo is a heck of a lot closer than BG to Columbus. And to be fair, the game in 2012 between BG/UB was essentially meaningless (KSU had already locked up the East) while the game between them in 2013 was to decide the MAC East Champion. BG won both games.

Now, if that had been truly wise and scheduled the game on the North Side at Wrigley it would be an overflow sellout! ;-)

I understand what the AD is hoping to accomplish (connecting with Chicago-area NIU alumni), but it seems like a fool's errand. If they can't be bothered to drive 90 minutes west for a game, they're not going to bother to fight an hour worth of traffic to go to one of the ugliest settings for an MLB park anywhere for a gimmicky midweek game in frigid November. I'll take the under on attendance of 10,000.

I can understand the interest and excitement of seeing a football game in an old classic baseball venue like Fenway and Wrigley. But US Cellular??? If it were in the old Comiskey Park I could see it. But here? Not so much at all.

The day after the election they better block off the upper decks - depending on the outcome people could be jumping out of their seats.

I am happy for the programs involved to be able to experience this but it should really be played on a Saturday to give it its best chance to be successful. The Northwestern-Illinois game at Wrigley I think was a more unique idea (despite the little endzone challenges) but that involved two Big Ten schools with fan bases to follow. There was also the homage aspect to when it was a football stadium for the Bears.
