In the past four seasons, the Bobcats have had 31 Academic All-MAC selections. He has also had two seasons where an Ohio player has been named a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, one of the most prestigious academic honors in college football. Academic success is nothing new for Solich’s teams. While head coach at Nebraska, almost 90 percent of his student-athletes earned their degree. Seven times Huskers earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and on four other occasions, second-team honors were bestowed.

If the question is still, would I hire this coach again, yes.

Now, Wait For It. I can hear bshot44 starting his dump truck right now.

We will never get a chance to hire a coach with Frank's experience again. Thank McDavis for recruiting him.

To summarize, Frank has a lengthly record of excellence.
The naysayers want a few years of bright flaming success, which we have been close, but never achieved. Naysayers want a football sweet 16 type season.

That is what all of the noise is about on the BA boards.

Football and basketball are two completely different sports. In football the ultimate measure of success is the conference championship. A championship won against your conference peers that is completely objective. Playoffs in football don't separate the cream from the crop like they do in the NCAA tournament when there is huge size and talent differential at the very top programs. If you don't execute in football you can have the most talent in the world and will get soundly beat. A MAC Championship is a prestigious achievement.

All good stuff, but we can't really use the number of Bowl appearances as a measuring stick against the past due to the high number of Bowl games today v the past, almost to the point of ridiculous.

It was probably someone who doesn't care if everyone reads what they write. Anyone that thinks that what they write is self-important would oppose such a thing.

# of wins can be a function of longevity.

Why do you only quote some stats from 2009 onward instead of during Solich's entire tenure?

I can't speak for everyone, but I am very aware and appreciative for what Frank has done for Ohio football since his arrival in Athens. Every aspect of the program has improved from wins/losses, NFL level talent on the field, facilities (I know they aren't where they need to be across the board but they are better with the practice facility). I hunger for bigger and better things but also appreciate the strides that have been made.

For me the glaring asterisk next to his performance summary is no MACC. The handful of East titles and numerous bowl appearances (and two wins!) are certainly points of pride for me but I still have a void for that championship trophy.

Hidden within the strong W/L record are a lot of losses at inopportune times that prevent both championship appearances and victories. Take away the second half meltdown in the 2011 MAC title game and I think the frustration would be reduced for many of us. What could have been in 2012 has been rehashed many, many times on here but that too was sort of a cruel tease that we would finally realize a championship. But since that trophy is not in the display case, each blowout loss to a team we are capable of beating becomes harder to swallow for me.

The notion of "we used to be so terrible, and now we are a solid, respectable program who wins 1-2 more games than we lose" is getting a little long in the tooth for me-especially when they also seem to let the opportunity to win games with meaning slip through their fingers.

Is one conference championship every 40 years too much to ask for? =)

How can anyone not find entertainment value in Bcat2 posts? He wants that ignore button but reads every post his detractors write. That seems a bit curious. So, if anyone doesn't like what I or anyone else writes, stop reading the posts from me or any of those people. That is the ultimate ignore button.

Lol.

What you're describing is about as easy as avoiding someone smoking at the CI, pre smoking regulations.

(If you don't like it go somewhere else....)

I typically view BA on my cellphone and read the posts zoomed in to the body of the text so I can't even see who's posting until I've read part or all of the post.

Even if I don't want to see something, like another Monroe "Facts" thread, I'm apt to read anyways, despite my best intentions to avoid the content entirely.

In lieu of an ignore button the only thing that has worked for me is stepping away from BA entirely cold turkey. I did that for like 11 months. Otherwise, I've experimented and found ignoring specific posters is far easier said than done.

I don't understand the contempt of bcat.

Suppose a smoker and a non smoker both possessing the virtue of self control and entitled to their separate opinions on smoking occupy the same public space.

The smoker can continue his activity unimpeded by the activity of the non smoker. But the non smoker cannot continue his activity in the same way, now burdened by the freedom the smoker is exercising (smoking).

Now suppose the majority of people occupying the public space are non smokers, the oppression of the smoking minority becomes intolerable even though the smoker and non smokers are no more entitled to their opinion than before.

Smokers and non smokers have coexisted in public places for decades. But let's be honest with ourselves, close public spaces in Ohio are a lot more enjoyable for the majority now that smoking is banned.

Manny, you hooked me in and entertained me on these last two posts. The humanistic logic I thoroughly enjoyed - much more so than that engineering stuff. Well done young man, well done.
