Most of the MAC teams have finalized their 2016 OOC schedules. Some interesting things. Neither Toledo nor NIU has a "P"5 team on its schedule. I can't remember that ever happening. BG opens at O$U. An interesting start to the Jinks era. Ohio, Kent, CMU and WMU each has two "P"5 schools scheduled.

Akron
09/01 - VMI
09/10 - at Wisconsin
09/17 - at Marshall
09/24 - Appalachian State
BG
09/03 - at Ohio State

09/17 - Middle Tennessee
09/24 - at Memphis
Buffalo

09/24 - Army
10/01 - at Boston College
Kent
09/03 - at Penn State
09/17 - Monmouth
09/24 - at Alabama
Fiami
09/03 - at Iowa
09/10 - Eastern Illinois
09/17 - Western Kentucky
09/24 - at Cincinnati
OHIO
09/03 - Texas State
09/10 - at Kansas
09/17 - at Tennessee
09/24 - Gardner-Webb

BSU
09/01 - at Georgia State (or Sep. 2)
09/10 - at Indiana
09/17 - Eastern Kentucky
09/24 - at Florida Atlantic
CMU
09/01 - Presbyterian
09/10 - at Oklahoma State

09/17 - San Diego State
TBA - Western Illinois
Toledo
09/03 - at Arkansas State
09/10 - Maine

It appears that, generally speaking, MAC teams plan for 2 money games each year to help offset the costs associated with running a football program.

Just based on a casual glance, I'd break the games up this way:

Akron: Money=@Wisconsin , 1:1 @Marshall, App St, FCS=VMI
BG: Money=@Ohio State, 1:1 MTSU, @Memphis, FCS=North Dakota
Buffalo: Money=@BC , 1:1 @Nevada, Army, FCS=????
Kent: Money=@Penn State, @Alabama, FCS=Monmouth, Other=????
Miami: Money=@Iowa , 1:1=W. Kentucky, @Cincinnati, FCS=E. Illinois
OHIO: Money=@Tennesee , 1:1=Texas State, @Kansas, FCS=Gardner-Webb
Ball State: Money=@Indiana , 1:1 @Georgia State, @Florida Atlantic, FCS=E. Ky
CMU: Money=@Virginia , @Oklahoma State, 1:1=UNLV, FCS=Presbyterian
EMU: Money=@Missouri , 1:1 @Charlotte, Wyoming, FCS????
NIU: Money: none, 1:1 @Wyoming, @USF, San Diego St, FCS=W. Illinois
Toledo: Money=BYU?, 1:1 @Arkansas St, Fresno State, FCS=Maine
WMU: Money=@Northwestern , @Illinois, 1:1 Georgia Southern, FCS=????

It looks to me like pretty much every MAC team is now using the same scheduling method, a single money game, an FCS game, and two 1:1 series. Ball State appears out of synch, with both series that look like 1:1 series being on the road this year.

Only three teams appear what may be two money games, Kent, CMU, and WMU, but for CMU and WMU one may be a money game, while the other may be a part of a 1:1 or 2:1 deal. For Kent they are pretty clearly both money games.

Two teams, Toledo and NIU, may not have any money games. If Toledo has one, it is most likely BYU, but that may be a part of some other deal. For NIU it's hard to know at a glance what they are doing. My guess is that they had another year with 2 money games, and only 1 of the 1:1 games, and this year is the reverse, with three 1:1 games and no money games.

Several teams have to announce another game, most likely an FCS game, but what Kent's last game will be I have no idea since they already have an FCS game, and getting another FBS game at this late date may be difficult.

I wonder if NIU and Toledo not having any money games this year was a strategy and direct result of them playing two games against P5 opponents per year the past couple of seasons. Maybe they figured they would slide off a bit competitively in 2016, so schedule light?

Perhaps, or as I suggested above, just a scheduling anomaly where they schedules average out to a normal schedule, but ended up with 2 money deals in one year and none in another, in which case they will most likely be back to 1 again next year.

Thanks for putting that OOC list together. Interesting to see all the teams. Some points of interest for me are, I think this is one of the better OOC schedules for Ohio in several years. I did get a chuckle though seeing how the only winless P5 team in the country is on Ohio's schedule each of the next two years. Good old Kansas. And that wasn't a series scheduled years ago, this one was done recently. Ohio is essentially assured a P5 win over the next two years with Kansas alone because KU is beyond awful. Not only did they lose every game last season, one of them was even to an FCS team at home.

I was surprised to see Toledo had no P5 teams scheduled. Not only do they usually play them, they have hosted several too. I was surprised NIU won't play any P5 teams either. I thought BG overscheduled with three P5 teams last year, as all of them were also on the road, but they turned around and won two of them and were right there with Tennessee at halftime. I think WMU has a real good shot at winning two games vs the Big Ten this year like BG did last season. It's also nice for WMU fans that those games are easy road trips to as well. Kent State will play at Alabama. Ouch.

I'm not sure what the money situation is, but BYU is better than half of the P5 schools out there, so I'd assume that kind of fits that spot for Toledo. It is odd to see NIU without a big-name opponent or two.

Looking this over, there are maybe six real opportunities for MAC wins vs "P"5 teams next season. We should beat Kansas and give Tenn a good game. WMU might take both Ill and NWern. CMU has a shot vs UVA and Buffalo could beat BC. The rest are not very likely. BG could actually make a game of it vs O$U, but unless they vastly improve their D in the next eight months, they won't have much of a chance.

I agree with you on a lot of those points. Ohio WILL beat Kansas. You can book it right now. I also think the Tennessee game will be a good game. WMU will win at least one of their Big 10 games, but they could win both. CMU will give UVA a game. If Matt Johnson had applied for a medical redshirt and got it, I'd have given BG a shot to at least run with O$U. But with their Big 3 on offense all but gone now (Johnson isn't applying for the medical redshirt, Travis Greene graduated and Roger Lewis still hasn't decided if he's coming back to school or going pro), I don't see it happening. But the lock for a P5 win is Ohio over Kansas. KU is dreadful and by far the worst P5 team in the country.

Man...I love the optimism from a lot of folks for the KU game....wish I shared it.

I know that doesn't come as much of a surprise to some on here...

I agree...KU is dreadful....but they are still a Big XII team. Albeit, maybe the worst one ever.

They still beat CMU by 2 TDs in 2014 (CMU finished 7-5, 5-3)

They also beat NIU in 2011...the same NIU team that went 10-3 and beat Ohio in the MAC title game.

I wouldn't exactly chalk that up as an automatic win.....especially with some of the question marks we have at QB and some other spots.

I really think it's a more winnable game then say, going to Oklahoma or Texas......but I'm not sure it's a lock....especially with it only being game #2.

I think Ohio needs to play as well or better than it did at Minnesota to win that game. It's possible....very possible....but I wouldn't classify it as a lock

I'm less confident about keeping a game close at Tennessee. they seem to be back on an upswing as a program, even though I don't know if they are losing a lot of players or not. They put up 59 on BG (the team that scored 62 on us). I think UT is much scarier than they were in 2009 when we went there. That was a game we should have won. I'll be happy if we keep it close in 2016.

Yes, Tennessee will be a force next year. Early prognosticators (even the sober ones!) project the Vols contending for the East. Butch Jones is making an impact. The Big Orange starting to look like they did 15 years ago.

I will not disappoint you. I personally think Kansas is the worse team we've ever played from a power conference. Never before have we played the absolute bottom dweller of a major conference. We've tried before but we've had crappy timing and hit teams on up years, but these guys are worse than Iowa State, Minnesota, Maryland, Northwestern, Vanderbilt all teams from the big conferences that we scheduled when they were down and hit a peak the year we scheduled them. I mean, heck we tried to pick on Army and the year that game came up they went 10-2, the first and ONLY time Army has won 10 games. We tried to pick on Northwestern when they were bad and when that game came around they are competing for Big10 Titles.

Personally, I think we will win this game, Kansas is as bad as the NCAA has seen in the P5 conferences.

I agree. Kansas may be one of the worst P5 teams ever. Normally the bottom P5 teams are at least decent overall compared to the G5 landscape. But Kansas has shown you can actually be the worst team in the country even if you are a P5 team. Kansas has been bad in recent years, but right now, they are dreadful. I'd put half the FCS above them.
