Our Christmas dinner will be different this year. We just visited family in Omaha and brought home 10# of feather bone ribs or riblets. So this year we are bbqing Christmas dinner. Some deer meat as well. Home made Blackberry wine and we will be good to go.

Anyone else care to share.

Merry Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with extended family last weekend, so nothing fancy here. We're having corned beef and cabbage.

My wife and I brought home the newest Bobcat fan this week so Christmas is A LOT different this year. He gifted us with a few extra hours of sleep last night which was probably the best gift ever.

Congratulations, it doesn't get much better than that.

Agree! Our Christmas highlight was the smiling, cooing presence of my 5-month granddaughter, Serena Lynne.

And I get to see my 13 day old grandson tomorrow!

My mother was Icelandic, and we always follow the Scandinavian tradition of celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve. We opened presents around the tree last night, then had a nice dinner of turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, broccoli, and something called Minneota Fruit Salad. [Minneota is a small community in southwestern Minnesota, which had a large percentage of Icelandic immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it is where my mother was born.] This salad consists of grapes, blackberries, pineapple, orange slices, banana slices, etc. all whipped up in real whip cream. After this repast, we went to a Christmas Eve church service.

This year we have a little extra wrinkle in that our youngest daughter and her family will not be arriving until late this evening, as she was spending Christmas Eve with her in-laws in Louisville, so we will have a second present-opening session later today.

As we speak my oldest daughter and youngest sister are making kleinur, an Icelandic donut, traditionally made at Christmastime, that uses cardamom to enhance the flavor, and is twisted in a unique manner before deep frying. Some more modern recipes substitute nutmeg for cardamon, but we stick to the traditional family recipe brought from the old country.

Merry Christmas to all!

Savory polenta rather than pasta for Christmas eve, a bonfire in the 60 degree moonlight, and facetimeing (at the bonfire)the reading of a Visit From St Nicholas for the 1 1/2 year old grandson who is visiting the other grandparents in California(and our kids here, of course).
Mighty nice with a 15' tree, too.

Spareribs and chicken with a nice dry rub and BBQ sauce with some all-day slow cooker baked potatoes. Watching our 2 1/2 year old grandaughter (our daughter and son in law are also Bobcats) sing "Stand up and Cheer" at random times is a true treat! A lot of Green and White but not much red clothing to be found in our houses even at Christmas time.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a Go Ohio!
