Is Marcus Collins leaving?

The article stated that Davis would be a starter at safety this spring. I hope that position is open for competition. The article explains the move to the cover 4. The coaches need to make some further adjustments. Great insight

Roster showed Collins as a RS SR.

Arkley addresses what happened at safety. "Substantial injuries at safety left Ohio unable to vary its personnel package much over the final month of the season. That took some exotic looks, defensively, off the table, and left Ohio unable to get too creative when a particular personnel grouping or formation was troublesome." So Davis might have been asked to do more than the coaches really would have asked if Carpenter and Nelson would have been available. Next season Davis, Nelson, Hagan and Williams as a group might allow for the referenced "exotic looks" mentioned by Arkley. Overall the safety group should be faster, if green.

Collins was the transfer from Iowa that never played.

I agree that it's a good article, and it makes the point that Ohio is still learning how best to use their Cover-4 defense, and making adjustments. It also makes some other good points. One is that the backup linebackers need to improve. I agree that they did not have a good year this year.

The other thing that stands out is that whether the defense is very good next year or not depends a lot on rebuilding the secondary. They lose Wells, Bass, Layton, Jones, Macer, and Carpenter, plus backups Terpin, Brunson, and Macer, plus Quallen may end up with a medical DQ and be gone as well. That could be a total of 10 players gone.

There are some good players left in the secondary, and some talent in the backups at Linebacker, but the coaches will earn their salary if they rebuild the secondary, and build the depth at linebacker without too many problems.
