Quentin Poling for Heisman

Prior to his injury, we were giving up, on average, 15.67 points per game. In the two and a half games since, we're giving up 55.2 on average.

A player worth almost 40 points per game ought to be a shoo-in for a trip to NYC.

Come on let's put it on one guy. We can jump on Poling's back a win a National Championship next year. We beat Marshall and had Minn on the ropes.

😎We actually had Minnesota on ropes until second half when they sat Poling Out! I agree Q for Heisman!!

It is certainly true that the drop from 1's to 2's at the LB spot is dangerously steep. I pointed this out last year and LC and I converged on some reasons why that happened.

Regardless, behind QP,JJ and BB are two walk-ons. At times we've seen all three of those guys hurt (WMU) and paid the price. Now, QP is out and JJ and BB are playing hurt. With more depth you could give those guys a chance to get healthy..but we don't have that luxury.

Russell was a very good player, and Ohio would be better off with him playing than they are at the moment.

If he were still playing, yes, Poling's situation would have been similar to Iron's, or should have been. Poling would have played some, and as he proved himself, he'd have played more, exactly as is happening with Irons. If, at some point, he showed he was better than Russell, he would have moved ahead of him on the depth chart. That's how it's done in all sports at all levels, and there have been plenty of cases where it has happened at Ohio.

This whole "you can never move ahead of anyone on the depth chart no matter how much talent you have" narrative just shows that people have been watching too much politics, and they argue the same way. The examples of cases where players moved up the depth chart are numerous, and happen all the time. To argue that they should have benched Russell, and told him, "look, we know you have worked hard, and we know you're one of the best MLB's in MAC, but we've got this young hotshot kid and we think that some day he will be better than you, so we're benching you do that he can develop faster" is ludicrous, and I can't think of a better way to destroy the morale of a team.

The players know who the best players are. They know who should be playing. In the same way that, as as an employee or employer, you know who the best workers are.

L.C you know darn well, he would have never moved in front of him. Let's call a spade a spade. Btw, we have to have better safeties on this team or else we are in double trouble next year. We are coddling the coaches like they are little league players. They are ultimately responsible for this debacle and they need to get this house in order. This whole thread that Poling would have saved the team is ridiculous. One minute fans are claiming he is the best LB in Ohio football history, the next minute he could not beat out Ben Russell. Stop the charade.

So? We very, very rarely hear from the players. We occasionally have someone posts from people who claim to have some inside knowledge. There's about no way to judge the quality of those supposed inside posts.

The point being that when/if we do hear about it from the players, then you can be pretty sure that there are seriously big issues inside the house.

But lack of complaints from the players doesn't mean that the players are satisfied.

Didn't an OU staffer say that people are amazed that Irons is not playing and the he looked like Alabama's star tailback. Are we all looking at the same game tapes?
