That game was our season in a nutshell. Domination in the first half, total collapse shortly thereafter, slight revival, then ultimately disappointment. Glad it's over.

Any chance of recruiting a kicker who can get it to the endzone on a kickoff? Giving away way too many yards with short kicks.

I liked watching this team. Bad break at the end but they fought hard.

The game was hugely entertaining but ultimately so frustrating! Why was Ohio down to its 3rd string QB to end the game? And for the love of all that is good and holy, why can't Ohio field a healthy team, even after a 25 day lay-off?

Personal fouls, converting a 17 point lead into a four point deficit in 1:58!!!!!!!! and the defense become a sieve at key moments. It really was our season crammed into 60 minutes, and I really am glad it is over.

I am just numb. I actually trash talked a friend of mine when we were up by 17 and then sent him a follow up text that said "I just jinxed us, we will fall apart." And on cue, we did. I don't think that Frank deserves credit for the collapse but he certainly needs some blame. And our OC needs to be gone. How do we play Daz so much? How do we not have Papi on more plays? Where was the creativity? How does our D collapse? Just seems to be our MO over the last 5 years. I have said it before, I'm sick of mediocrity. I want a young coach like Appy's Satterfield.

If you have ever watched any ohio football games the last 15 years you know we were going to lose that game after the personal foul.

The game was about as expected , they ran the ball, we couldn't. Even then, with all the great defensive plays on our side, they did about what they normally do. Still a one play game, for all intents and purposes.

The first doubt I had was the Daz fumble. That personal foul was awful especially after the no call PI the previous series also was a huge swing.

You continue to make excuses. We played well but if their kicker doesn't miss two chip shots, it's not a one play game. See you next football season.

Personal foul was bad but what was killer was JD throwing picks into traffic two straight series. Some different play calling while still having the lead wins this game.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I disagree. App was 10-2 and favored by 8 points so in context of this we played well. The safety to get back with two was spirited. It was an exciting game and sometimes you come out on the wrong side of it but we had nothing to be ashamed about.

I bet App State fans think they should have won by more considering the yardage disparity. That's football. Both teams made plays and missed chances to make a bunch more. It was a great game with a bad ending.

Well said, Wes. Yes, App State scored a lot of points to turn a big deficit into a lead in a very short period. That was simply a mirror of when Ohio scores a lot of points to turn a 7-0 deficit into a big lead in a short period of time. It was a hard fought game on both sides. It will be a reminder to the players all off-season that they need to continue to improve.

Depth was the undoing coupled with injuries. No depth at all at DE. How many snaps can Basham and Laesek play and be effective?
At safety there are only two guys who can get on the field at all. Essentially the whole game was played by the same 5 offensive linemen. TE same thing Heitzman is gimping around as the only option. I could go on forever about this. I'm not sure if it's injuries, failure to develop players or just trust from the staff.
The QB situation is a whole different story. Plenty of depth just all average.

39 and 42 yards are NOT "chip shots."

Certainly at Safety injuries were a huge factor. Carpenter, Nelson, and Scipio were all out, leaving only two healthy Safeties (Davis, Jones), and one who was back from injury (Macer). The same thing is true at TE, where Tanner and Henry had to hang it up due to injuries, and Mangen was out for the season. As for OLine, though, it's pretty common for a player to play every down. It's been that way for years.

While it's frustrating that they couldn't come up with a win, the Bobcats clearly played hard, and did a lot of good things, and made a lot of plays, just not quite enough. No one gave them much chance in this game, and the game was a lot closer than most expected. I bet when the ratings are in, the ratings for this game were pretty high.

When during the Solich era have they not run multiple O lineman into the game? It has very much been regular practice.

Sorry people, I'm still in "hate mode". I'm not a loser, and I'm an Ohio alumnus. I don't like rooting for losers, yet I have for 30 years. There is no reason we lose to a team like Appalachian State. Would OSU be okay with that? No! But we let it go - just another game, just another loss. I know Athens is a small town but other small towns with big universities do quite well. I'm tired of excuses. Reply if you want, but just know - I hate excuses.

Go Bobcats!

Basham finally had a good game...against a 2nd team tackle on an O-line characterized as undersized.

And he sure woofed a lot during it.

Was he woofing when he, injury, couldn't get it done at the end?

Not my taste given the general on field results over his last two years. There's joy and then there's woofing.

In 2005 there was very little rotation until someone got hurt, then a backup played, and that backup then played 100% of the time.

In 2006 I have hard numbers for the percentage of snaps played by each starter:
Shelby - 97.7%, including 9 games where he played every snap
Miller 97.3%, including 9 games where he played every snap
Coppage missed one game, in the others played 91% of the snaps, including 8 games where he played every snap
Knabb 90.4%, six games where he played every snap
Johnson 93.7% till he got hurt, then Eynon 84.4% of the snaps. Johnson played 2 complete games (of 4), Eynon played 2 complete games.

In 2007-8 there was more rotation, with most starting linemen playing 85% of the snaps. In 2009 it was back to little rotation, with guys like Rogers and White playing almost every snaps all season. Again in 2010 there wasn't much rotation, with Allen, Herman, and Flading often going all the way. In 2011-2014 there were a lot more injuries on the Oline, and thus there was a lot more rotation.
