Houston about to back the Brinks truck up for Tom Herman to the tune of $3 million per year.

EDIT: And Memphis is about to top that with HC Fuente!

There has to be a donor for that, right? I just can't see how they have the revenue to support that.

The guy has a 1.65 million dollar raise and he hasn't been coaching at the school a year. Only a handful of coaches make over 4 million so he's not going anywhere. Houston was ranked in 2012 and lost Kevin Sumlin to Texas A&M so they've been through a coach departing for more money before.

The support is definitely there, whether it's donor or revenue based. They just built a brand new stadium, too. Guess they are kinda ticked off about all this Cincinnati and Memphis to the Big 12 talk.

The problem is that all they have done is match what a bigger school would offer as a starting salary. If he thinks he can do better elsewhere, he's gone.

This could keep him from taking bottom half P5 jobs. Or could make him decide to become the next Frank Beamer.

He's 8-3 and lost to Temple 31-12 last week. Memphis decides to reward by doubling his salary. Puzzling.

With the amount of jobs open, if Memphis didn't pay him, someone else surely would've.

Who would want a guy that's lost 3 straight games? Frank should have his pay doubled after the BG loss with that logic.

Check out the assistant coach salaries on USA today. Staggering numbers. Other than having a contract (and the big boys already have that in many cases) and wanting to run the show yourself, not a lot of incentive to head coach a G-5 team if you're a P5 assistant.

If someone can pull up the link, I would appreciate it, I'm too computer illiterate sorry.

Looks like 10-11 MAC assistants making more than our top guys at $131000 and our overall budget of $898,000 or so just more or less middle of pack for MAC.

Houston desperately wants to get the call up to the Big 12 and rejoin Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas and TCU.

My guess is that the old SWC school don't really want another Texas school in the mix. My bet is that they'll go for the likes of UC and Memphis. I also understand that at the time WVU joined that they stated their desire to have a few schools between them and the other B12 also join. Right now they are kind of isolated with no natural rivalries.

Interesting how these companies roll. Just reported on our local radio that Hilcorp of Zapata, TX has issued a Christmas bonus of 100K to each and every employee. Merry Christmas Everyone.

Another thing to consider is a company's presence in a state or area, not just where their headquarters are(Irving, Texas). Exxon/Mobil has 10,000 employees at their new operational headquarters in the Woodlands. They
have always had a big time Houston area presence.
I was in Houston last week and the local sports channels were going on about how to change the image of the University of Houston from that of a commuter school. They claimed that a lot was being done to change to do just that.

My hope is that they end up grabbing UC, Memphis, and a couple other schools in the east/eastern midwest to go to 14. We'll see.

I heard the same thing today-from the secretaries to the CEO! The station I was listening to also mentioned that last year they were given the choice of $50,000 to buy the car of their choice or a $35,000 cash gift. Where do I submit my resume?

I know that UC has spent a lot of coin on creating a similar effort. The Clifton/University Heights area surrounding campus has been a construction zone for what seems like the last 5 years. As a result there are a lot of shops and restaurants that are also commonly found in your more suburban business districts/malls. Certainly a lot of this has been privately funded but I think it is all part of a strategic plan to improve the perception of UC, and its surrounding neighborhoods to prospective families. There was an article in the Enquirer a few years ago talking about how they want there to be a safe, pleasant experience through the corridors for anyone coming to campus off of both I-71 and I-75, especially families who hail form more suburban and rural areas who don't want to go to school in "the ghetto." From just my casual observations I think they are making progress in that area.

Having spent a lot of time around the UC campus growing up it sure seems like more improvements have been made in the last 3-5 years than the previous 20-25.

There are only four schools from the old SWC currently in the Big 12: TCU, Texas Tech, Texas and Baylor. I don't think they give a flip about UC or Memphis. I bet they would love to see Houston so their Texas athletes and money stay in state rather than travel to Ohio or Tennessee.

The only logical reason for adding a Memphis and UC, as you've stated, is for the benefit of WVU. It just so happens that those two programs have been good lately and have made moves to get to that level. The better fit though is still Houston.

Someone else said they would love to see them go to 14 teams. If that were the case, I guess you throw UCF, BYU, Boise State and USF in the mix too.

Traffic and parking are going to be the next huge improvements they need to make up there. I live right down the hill in Northside and refuse to go pick up food in Clifton while school is in session. With the school and the increasing hospital population, Clifton is almost becoming the center of Cincinnati.

I work at UC and the transition from 20 years ago is amazing. They have thrown a ton of money at facilities, academics and athletics. I think the academic profile/image has changed dramatically. If they get to the BigXII it will change the athletic profile to Big Time. If they don't get the Big invite, at least the academic and facilities side has improved tremendously. Athletics on the other hand will have thrown a boatload of money down the toilet for nothing much.

Go bobcats!
