Arkley posted an article with the OOC Scheduled until 2021. (http://www.athensmessenger.com/sports/ohiouniversity/ohio... )

He also notes that in return for taking a smaller paycheck for the Purdue game in 2017, they have agreed to a home and home men's basketball series.

These are good schedules. I just wish Ohio would or could schedule other Group of Five opponents closer to home or more well known to the general public. Lafayette is a good program, but who knows that unless you're a pretty committed college football fan?

Hell, drive to UVA. Charlottesville is a fantastic college town. See Monticello, football, and bring back some wines.

We already have Cincinnati and Marshall on the schedule. Who else is there? Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee? Would that be an improvement?

Both of those would be better than Texas State and UMass.

Overall, I like the emphasis to try and play two P5 schools each year...and if not some good games vs. UC and Marshall....."winnable" ones at that.

Rather face Pitt, UVA, Iowa State, Kansas, Purdue, Tennessee and Northwestern than Ohio State, Michigan State, Florida, Florida State, TCU & USC.

I wish they would re-visit WVU, Maryland, UNC & NC State in the future...those are all pretty easy drives.

The only thing I don't like..and I know it's a necessity are the FCS games....but oh well....this is an improvement.

I'm fine with the schedule, I think it allows us to come out with 3-4 wins most years. But it would be nice to play some higher profile teams to really test us. Looking at it now Tennessee is the toughest, then probably Northwestern if its a good year for them, then Cincinnati then Marshall. Most of the other P5 teams like Pitt, Purdue, Kansas and Iowa State I think we will be better than most years.

It's one of those things, would you rather have a schedule like NIU or like we had this year. Since we had a easier non-conf we were able to absorb a stumble and still get good bowl placement. While NIU might look even better if they hadn't played such a hard schedule and had two more wins. On the flip side you can't get props like Toledo did and help ranking faster when you don't play the bigger P5 teams.

+1

Toledo got big bump from home win vs. Iowa State and road win Arkansas.

If Ohio could go on road to be Tennessee and then beat Kansas...that would be a huge feather in their cap to start the season.

Big ifs....but the opportunity is there

Two trips to New England, a few fun road trips and no Ohio State through 2012: color me tickled pink.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Those are better IMO than ULL or Texas State, or New Mexico State, Wyoming and Idaho of the past. We knew Marshall would be back, and I don't really consider UC a Group of Five, which they might not be soon enough.

Then again, it's probably slim pickings and Ohio is getting what it can get.

Surprised Marshall is a home/home for only two seasons.

And Bshott, NC State is an "easy" drive? Really?

I've been critical of hoops scheduling in the past, so allow me to compliment the athletic department for working out a home-and-home with Purdue. Good job! Look forward to hearing details...

I like the idea of locking in a basketball h&h with a 1 and done FB deal. It would be nice to see this in the future. Also how did BG get UC into its little arena?

We've talked before about scheduling winnable P5 games, I would say this list fits that bill nicely. Ideally would have liked to have seen more than 2 of 8 P5 teams (3 if you count the Purdue deal) make a return trip to Athens but at this point I guess 2 is better than 0. Only other small quibble would be trading one of TX St, LaLa and UMass for a stronger G5 program.

This is a winnable yet respectable schedule, nicely done.

P5 Home Games
Kansas, 2017
Iowa State, 2023

P5 Road Games
Kansas, 2016
Tennessee, 2016
Purdue, 2017
Virginia, 2018
Pitt, 2019
Boston College, 2020
Northwestern, 2021
Iowa State, 2022

G5 H/H Series
Texas State
UMass
Cincinnati
Marshall
La Lafayette

So what's the biggest non-conference game at Peden that is going to get students and alumni excited? Cincinnati in 2021?

Overall I give the schedules a grade of B. With the FCS games that portion I give a C because they water down the schedule. I know it ensures 6 home games yadda, yadda, yadda but with all the weak SBC and CUSA schools out there there is no need to pad the schedule. I give the FBS home games a B. It would be nice to see a few more P5s but I feel they honestly tried to get quality home games this time. No Idaho's, New Mexico State's, Wyoming's or Troy's on it. The money games however; Pitt, Northwestern, Boston College, Virginia I give the AD an A for those. Games that reach out to alumni in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Boston, DC living out of state and make great roadies for the core fans.

Louisiana plays in a 37,000 seat stadium and Cajun food roadie. It's better than a series with Louisiana-Monroe, LaTech for sure. Texas State is 1/2 between Austin and San Antonio. Its a lot better roadie than UTEP or North Texas. It could be a lot worse. It wasn't the bottom of the barrel like Schaus penciled last time. Far from it with two above average G5 destinations.
