I was browsing through some sports talk today and stopped in the SEC network, Paul Finnebaum show. He had a guest on from the University of Florida media who is close to the coaches. He brought up that he was surprised Will would jump from defensive coordinator right into a big program especially with little talent left on this roster. He made the statement he thought for sure that Will Muschamp would be in line to take over the Ohio University program after Solich retires and be a force in the MAC before getting a top conference job again. I just thought it was really interesting that Ohio Univeristy was brought up and where they thought he would land and be in line for that. The beat writer (I forget his name) has close relationships with current and former coaches from Florida and has a good relationship with Muschamp. Just thought it was interesting.

Thanks for posting this info. A very interesting assessment. Either the guest on Paul's show knew something or he has some affiliation with the Bobcats to be able to make statement like that. As far as the national media goes, the only MAC teams that many can probably say off the top of their heads are Toledo, Northern Illinois and maybe Akron or Miami. Generally, we aren't the first school those outside the Midwest mention. Very interesting!

That's a very specific situation that he brought up and got me wondering: what would the connection between Solich/Muschamp and Ohio/Muschamp? Why not some other MAC school?

'Yes but the reporter thought he would take the Ohio job after Solich retires and thought a stop at a non power 5 would help his career before taking on a depleted roster at Carolina.

The reason I posted is because I was so intrigued that we were mentioned in his future plans and a better option then going to Carolina. It was said in confidence by the reporter Ohio and when Solich retires. I watched the majority of the interview and the reporter knows Muschamp well from his stint in Florida and is still in touch with him. As for a connection I couldn't figure out the pipeline or prior coaching experience, but for Ohio University football to be specifically mentioned was very interesting and had me thinking, who would take our program over? I'm probably over analyzing a simple quote from a beat writer but someone was speaking about our program and it has me wondering if others think Athens as a resurrection for a coaching career like BoB Davie in New Mexico.

While it certainly could be such a program I wouldn't think we are typecast as such. Most Group of 5 programs I think are going to be led by up and comers or maybe has-been coaches looking to retread themselves to become attractive to Big 5 programs. You can also get coaches like Frank who maybe came into their role with plans for bigger and better and found happiness where they were at. If they run a clean program who recruits high character players who graduate and win (hopefully championships), I don't care where they come from.
