I went to our game against Virginia Tech in 2007 (O Zone bus!) and the Hokie fans couldn't have been more welcoming and engaging, even the students. As a result, 1) I made a point to welcome a couple of Wyoming fans I saw at the CI the following weekend who had traveled to Athens for our game with the Cowboys and 2) I've become a slight Hokie fan and I like to see them play well.

As Bruce Willis said in Die Hard. In the state of Ohio, I have to put up with these morons on a regular basis. They just seem not to understand why every one in Ohio is not a full blown Ohio State supporter.

I can say the opposite was true when my wife and I traveled to Minnesota for our game earlier this year. With one exception, everyone treated us very well both at the stadium and as we walked around the campus and the Dinkytown area with our OHIO gear on the day before the game and saw all of shops and the Homecoming decorations.

That sucks and that's a shame that they had to put up with that-it's just a game, Ohio State people!

I have to say, while at the then GMAC Bowl, the Southern Miss people couldn't have been nicer! They were buying us drinks at some bar on Dauphin Street (or Court Street of the South as I like to call it) and offering to share their food at the tailgates before the game. They were very nice people.

To be fair, this letter would read like a love letter to northern New Jersey and its people.

To chime in with with positive away game experiences, the people in Louisville couldn't been nicer. Just about everyone was inviting us over to their tent to enjoy food and drinks.

On our trip to Penn State, their fans were very welcoming, even on the way back to the car after we beat them. Had several post-game tailgates stop us to talk about the game and offer us a beer.

Now can't say the same about our visit to THE "Ohio" stadium for our game vs. tOSU in 2008. Ran into rude people all day...

Granted I was wearing a t-shirt that said "OUr band can do more than spell...OHIO...We are OHIO!"

their so called great running back just threw the entire coaching staff under the bus blaming them for the loss, not giving any credit to the superior team and refusing to take any responsibility for his own poor performance. Now that is real class.

I also can't stand how OSU fans complain about haters when they are the worst. As a Ohio fan I root for Miami to win so when we beat them it means even more. I always root for MAC teams against non conference foes. OSU fans always root against UM and Notre Dame.

I love the Bobcats because I love my alma mater. I will never understand how people get so invested in a school team for which they didn't attend.

I don't hate OSU. My uncle played football there. My parents graduated from there and I grew up around the corner from the Griffins. I was a big OSU fan as a kid but once I decided to take my talents to Athens (academic talents),my loyalty transferred to Ohio.

Yes and no when you consider that less than 1 in 4 people in Ohio actually have a college degree. They have to root for someone.

Ohio University gave me the opportunity to earn my degree through their regional campuses. Even though I have only been to Athens once in my life, I have more reasons to be loyal and root for Ohio than Ohio State. I don't necessarily hate Ohio State. I tend to root for them to win big games. When they play Michigan, I even break out the one scarlet and gray t shirt I own and wear it. But why should I root for them when the school on my diploma has Division I football?

Rooting for Ohio State, a Big 10 power, is the easy thing to do. It's so easy for even MAC alumni to bypass supporting and attending games of their Division I program in favor of supporting OSU. And, of course, since Ohio State is "Ohio's only team," so many Ohioans, regardless of educational background, flock to them. There are many well-meaning, positive Buckeye fans out there, but there are some who literally believe that rooting for Michigan is evil and makes someone a bad person. That aura of superiority is obnoxious. One of the main reasons I love college football is the geography of it and seeing how fans all over the country support their schools. Again, some Buckeye fans don't seem to comprehend that the same reasons they root for Ohio State are also valid for people in other states, such as Michigan, when it comes to choosing their team.

If Ohio, BG, Akron, Kent, or Toledo were in the big ten then those fanbases would not be rooting for OSU. But in the Mac we are not really competing with OSU football so I get why some people jump on the bandwagon who want to feel they are part of a big winning program. Personally I cannot root for them because of the whole THE thing that I feel is meant to rub it in our face.

As for their fans, I'm sure the majority are fine, but the loud minority do have a pompous attitude and good to see them feel a little humility (if that's what you call going 10-1).

It's a bad cycle. Most people in the state and country, even our own alumni, don't consider the MAC to be 'real' division 1 football. This idea is furthered by the national media 'BCS vs non BCS' or 'power vs group of'. It sucks! MAC schools clearly have enough alumni to have similar resources, but they are mostly content to root for a 'winner', essentially not giving us a chance. :/

Anyone else notice that there was no delay of game penalty called on the MSU kicker when OSU called the timeout and he kicked the ball anyway? My, what an uproar that would have caused if MSU was pushed back and then missed the FG (not to mention the second tough call to go against MSU, INCLUDING the one vs. MINN.).
