These mid-week games to get on TV kill our attendance numbers. I hope the athletic department is getting enough from the TV contract to make it worth it.

Other things also affect game attendance.

Yeah. It's a joke. Why can't we get a few of those Saturday CBS Sports Network games that Akron got the last two Saturdays.
I hate not having Saturday games once October ends.
Even with our struggles, we'd still draw 18-20K for Kent and Ball if those were Saturday afternoon kickoffs.
Instead, we'll be lucky to break 10k
The MAC....just selling out their schools and basically taking a giant piss on the fan bases for some money.
I applaud a midweek "showcase" game...but to have 90% of your games this time of they year during the midweek...when some of those games are only available on the freakin' internet is just silly.

Here's the impact of an 8 pm Tuesday game for a Central Ohio resident... If this game were on Saturday, I can go and I bring my three kids. Four seats filled. Because it's on a school night, none of us can go. Four tickets sold but four empty seats.

The MAC and member schools get two benefits. The first is the advertising exposure. It would be nice, then, if the MAC actually had a good commercial, but instead they have an awful one. Ohio's own commercial isn't the greatest, but it's better than the MAC one.
The second one is that MAC recruiting improved noticeably after mid week games started.
Each year I'm less convinced that it is worth it.

Yeah TV is a killer, ever seen the recurit videos and info mailers? They tout the heck out of these TV nights! In recuriting it's a big deal.

I think November Saturday games are overrated for attendance. Akron-UMass admitted to 6,228 in Gillette Stadium last week and EMU-Fiami claimed 12,700. The midweek games: NIU-Toledo had 23,000; Ohio-BG had more than 16,000; BSU-WMU game claimed 12,058 and Buffalo-Kent had 10,000. Most of the midweek games probably wouldn't have drawn too many more if they'd been on the weekend. Kent averaged 14,000 on Saturdays, BG averaged 19,000, Toledo averaged only 21,000 (less than they drew last week). WMU was the only one that really got screwed -- they averaged more than 22,000 on Saturdays. So in most cases, the TV money + hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) watching on TV probably makes up for maybe losing a couple thousand in the seats.
My problem is that Jeopardy is having its tournament of champions, so I have to watch the first 30 minutes of the BSU game on the Internet.

That BG/Ohio crowd looked horrible on TV.
Same with the Toledo/NIU crowd.
I agree, for the Kents, Akrons, EMUs and Fiamis weeknight vs midweek doesnt matter for crowd.
But for programs with a decent following (like Ohio) the crowds would be significantly better on Saturday I'm guessing...especially for key/big games like NIU/Toledo or Ohio/BG or BG/WMU

I agree that you'd see more actual butts in the seats for Saturday games. If this KSU game was on a Saturday, even after the last three blowout losses, we'd have at least 18,000. Tomorrow, we'll be lucky to have a real 8,000 to 10,000 in the seats. As a season ticket holder, I'll be counted whether I show up or not, but I plan to be there -- bundled up like an Eskimo.

With BG clinching the East last night, that should mean our game with NIU will be on ESPNU instead of just ESPN3. If NIU is still in the hunt for the West, Ohio-NIU would be much more attractive to ESPN than BG-BSU. Unless they just want to see BG put up 70 points.

I think we are all missing the point about what real college football and sports are all about from a fan perspective. We are focusing way too much on money and trying to compete where we shouldn't. If the MAC would start focusing on the actual athlete, the actual students, and actual fans it would be clear that the mid-week games are not worth it.

Well, if I may play devil's advocate... scholarships, coaches, stadium upkeep and repairs all cost money and revenue has to be generated where possible. And while I also love the spirit of competition and the integrity of the game (I realize this is college football and this doesn't exist), why compete if not to win?

Also, the actual athletes want to be on TV, so they like the mid-week games. It's the fans that don't.

L.C. exposure only helps IF you increase students that come to OU OR get more alumni contributions. After all, does anyone really care if 1 million people watch for entertainment value only (haha). I'd love to see an analysis of incoming frosh to find out just how many came to OU because of Tue night football. Same with contributions...ask alumni if they give because of TV exposure from Tue night games. I bet the results would be fascinating one way or the other.
My guess: the exposure gets us nothing more than whatever ESPN pays us per game. Obviously, I could be wrong:)

It's absurd to suggest that the exposure from a nationally televised game is not worth the loss of, at most, 10K fans in the stands. Absurd. Especially for a program that never appeared on national television before 2005.

I admit. As a fan, I'm totally selfish.
I want to attend as many games as I can.
But with 25% of them on a work/school night...that makes it impossible.
For instance, if Ball/Kent were on Saturdays...I'd be there in Athens.
If BG was a Saturday (even knowing how AWFUL we'd been playing)...I'd still had probably made the trip from Cbus to BG. (NIU probably wasn't happening)
Games at Miami, Kent, Akron, Toledo, BG and maybe even Buffalo are road games I'd consider making on a Saturday. On a weeknight...no freaking way. (Unless it was a Friday....that would be a reasonable ask and I think the MAC fans would benefit more of having Friday night games than Tuesday night games)
I just don't see how a half-empty stadium on a Tuesday night in November is worth the extra revenue of the TV dollar. How does that help recruiting? "Hey Ohio is on TV...in front of 27 people...yeah!!!" Not sure if I'm a recruit, that gets my pumped.
Then again, I'm old and angry
#GetOffMyLawn
I just hate that the sights and sounds of college football season in MAC for me end in October. I hate having to watch games on TV if I know I could be there (for a reasonable sacrifice)

I doubt the connection is that proximate, but maybe they see Ohio on TV a couple times, then get a mailer from them when they are trying to decide where to apply. They toss the letter from Case Western since they never heard of them, but open the letter from Ohio and read it.

Quality of the play that recruits see on TV is probably a large factor.
