Where in the world is everyone? This place is empty. Pathetic turnout no matter what the announced attendance is going to show. The East title is out of reach but there's still meaningful football to be played. There's been a lot of people on here critical of other schools for their attendance during these midweek games. We can now shut our own mouths on that topic as we have no room to talk.

This problem has been mentioned before. Midweek games suck.

I was expecting much worse to be honest. Misty midweek game after a three-game skid. Could've been way worse.

The problem clearly isn't midweek games.

We've had great turnouts for midweek games.

The problem is the results on the field. That is the obvious variable.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Come on. Tuesday night. Terrible Weather. Saturday in Athens is a destination. Tuesday, although I have made a few over the years is pretty tough.

I've been critical of midweek attendance...but never saying that Ohio was better than others.

I think all schools are equally bad! Amd they're not to blame...it's the MACs fault.

Midweek MACtion novelty has worn off. Fans are far less likely to attend a midweek game during cold night with work/school next day...especially those that have to travel a while to get there.

They need to trim down this midweek nonsense. One or two a year is okay....but 4 is overkill.

I guarantee we'd have triple the crowd if this game was played on a Saturday no matter how bad we've played.

Some of us have these things called "jobs" (I think it's pronounced with a soft J). The way it works is we show up at scheduled/predetermined times and do things and in exchange for that they give us money. Who knows, maybe you have one too. Anyways, some of us (me for example) are expected to show up for said "job" tomorrow morning. (Actually I've also been working while watching the game, but that's neither here nor there)

Guys the title is not saying much. Let's see, we are better than EMU...Miami...Kent...Akron...and other lousy teams.

It ain't like we are the Best fans in the BIG or SEC.

Sorry.

We don't say we're the best fans in the SEC. Why not give the fans a little credit. What a bunch of jerks

I do not understand the negativity of you and Monroe. I am an alum and have been a hard core fan these last ten years but I do not understand why you guys chose to be miserable. I grew up as a bengals fan (born in 1987) and the fact that we are dominant is amazing. Ok, so I had my little aside, why are people being negative after a dominant win? (Let us remember these are kids playing a game)

The Optimist's avatar is proof that mid-week attendance doesn't have to be bad. That being said, mid-week games can certainly discourage ticket holders like me from making the 3 hour drive to Peden. While the students don't have to deal with the travel time, they also have a job...it's called studying and getting an education.

And there are those of us that could go, even in spite of these "jobs", but we also have these things called "kids". "Kids" are like regular people, only smaller. These "kids" often have earlier bedtimes than larger people because they have to get up for "school". "School" is where these "kids" learn to become big people. They often have to arrive for a "bus" at an unseemly hour at the hands of their grumpy parents.

All that said, I'm in for Ball State, and I'm actually excited. Last home game of the year. Let's make this a winning season.

I'm surprised that there wasn't a bigger student turnout considering that there are no classes today for Veterans Day. Last night should've been like a Friday or Saturday night. But a lot of students weren't even aware of the day off today.

I was uptown both before and after the game and let's just say I found where all the students were.

I had my cousins in from Wisconsin as part of their annual college football road trip and was disappointed for them to see probably the worst Peden crowd in many years. But they understood the circumstances (mid-week, crappy weather, losing streak) and seemed to enjoy the game and really loved the campus and uptown, because of course.

Not sure if any of you saw my Badger visitors but when the PA system played "Jump Around" just before the half they of course stood up and jumped around like they were back home, it was pretty funny.

My wife and I have been season ticket holders for nearly 20 years. We purchase ten tickets a year. We give one to a friend that works for the University, use four for our family and give the others to friends that have high school aged kids that we want to introduce to our university. This works well on Saturdays. We make a day of it. We enjoy Athens. We visit with my 5th year senior nephew. We play at Tailgreat Park. We enjoy the atmosphere in Peden.

When the MAC schedules football games on a night that has been traditionally reserved for the local seventh grade football team, we can not do this. For instance, after working all day and doing the commute home I did not even get to see my wife. She had already left for parent teacher conferences and PTA meetings. I took our oldest to a meeting about a scout trip he is taking to Seabase this summer. By the time we all got back home together around 9:30, we actually took time to talk to one another and see how the day went for everyone in our household. In summary, we have a life. Not only did I not make it to Athens to enjoy the tickets I had already purchased, I could not even see the game on TV.

As a college student, I was not a morning person. Each quarter I would schedule an evening class. Usually 6-8 Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday. I liked the classes as they were not in the morning and they usually were taught by someone that may have recent or current industry experience. I also had a job to help pay my costs and for my excursions uptown. So I assume that the students on campus today also have lives that may require their attendance at classes, meetings or jobs on a Tuesday evening. I do not blame them one bit for making these a priority over a meaningless game against a team with a losing record.

Attendance at a Tuesday night game is not a fan problem. It is a MAC problem. It makes the entire league look second rate and it denies fans the opportunity to enjoy the game because our life does not revolve around college football. All this so a game can be broadcast on ESPNU.

I was across the aisle from you and it was funny when they started dancing. It was refreshing to see fans from a Big 10 school wearing another shade of red inside Peden Stadium.

I understand the myriad of excuses people have for skipping the game and I am not going to harp on people for not attending. I showed up, watched a pretty boring game in unfavorable weather, and drove home feeling about the same as I did on the drive to Athens. I would've watched the game at home, so I figured I might as well drive to Athens to see it live.

My guess is that the mid-week attendance in Peden is a lot better than all the other schools. It looked a lot more full than BG did last week. I brought kids with me, but they did not have school today because they have Veterans Day off. I could probably copy and paste this post next week too since it will be an identical conversation.

Agreed. Rainy/misty, and 140 points given up in the prior 3 games led me to say "I'll watch from the couch" rather than commit to 180 miles of driving and time spent in the cold rain.

I'm just curious, how many miles/how much time is it for your drive from Athens to Parkersburg these days?

35-40 mins max from my house downtown to campus.

I'll just say that I am not going to travel 2000 miles or so round trip to attend a night game in November primarily because of the likelihood of bad weather this time of year. I hate cold weather more than I love to see the Bobcats in person. And it wouldn't make any difference if I lived 50 miles away, I still wouldn't go.

I was at the NIU game last year (in a indoors location) and that was the smallest crowd that I have ever seen at Peden. It certainly looked smaller to me than the game on TV did last night. The weather seemed much worse than the reports from last night, and that was a much better team than Kent. Weather matters.

Question you have to ask yourself is the money and exposure from the TV deal more important or having more Saturday games where you would have more fans. Someone would need to check though, cause I would venture if you looked before this TV deal our last two games of the season had lower attendance on average anyway due to the weather and Thanksgiving. So it can make good sense to get these games on TV since there are more Pros to it than Cons. We have also shown in the past that we can get great attendance for these night games if the team is doing well and the opponent brings interest as well.

Now I know the attendance number reported doesn't equate to who was there, but according to the attendance numbers on ESPN for the last 3 weeks only two games had a higher attendance than last night's for the weeknight games. One was the OHIO v BG game and the other was NIU V Toledo, both of which had teams that are doing well and thus have high fan interest.

Now to answer the question to the topic headline, we are the Best Fans in the MAC because we are consistently in the top 3 every year in attendance no matter if we are getting ranked or just making it to .500 which can't be said for most of our MAC brethren.

I hate midweek games too, but to say that it's being done "for an online broadcast" is to completely miss the point. The point is a package of games that include premier matchups on national television (espn or 2), secondary matchups on ESPNU, and at least online national (and high quality) broadcast on espn3 for, shall we say, less interesting contests. You can't just peg one matchup for espn or espn2, then have the rest of the games be saturday. Imagine the scheduling nightmare that creates, on top of the unfair number of prep days for the next matchup where one team gets a week and the other gets three days. Doesn't work.
